Machinedrum Emulation is HERE | Factory Patterns Demo

video upload by Autodafe

"What if you could run an Elektron Machinedrum inside your computer?

In this video I'm taking a look at Gearmulator MD, an impressive emulation of the legendary Elektron Machinedrum, developed by Joe Landers as a fork of the Gearmulator project.

There is no talking in this video — just a quick look at the interface and a selection of the original factory patterns, so you can hear the emulation in action.

⚙️ ABOUT THE EMULATION

Gearmulator is a low-level emulation project that recreates the hardware used by several classic digital synthesizers and runs their original firmware.

Joe Landers' gearmulator-md-mm fork extends that work with emulations of the Elektron Machinedrum and Elektron Monomachine.

The result is not simply a software recreation inspired by the Machinedrum: it runs the original machine firmware on an emulated version of the underlying hardware.

At the time of making this video the project is still in alpha development, so expect things to continue evolving.

MAME Synths as Plugins?! Vintage Emulator Studio is Here

video upload by Autodafe

"Vintage Emulator Studio (VES) is finally here!

Download VES here:
https://www.autodafe.net/vintage-emul...

VES started from my experiments with the synthesizers, sound modules, samplers and drum machines emulated by MAME. Over time, after several videos, tests and even A/B comparisons with original hardware, I started wondering: what if these machines could be used in a more musician-friendly environment — and even loaded directly inside a DAW?

That idea eventually became Vintage Emulator Studio.

VES brings together a curated selection of MAME-emulated musical instruments in a single application, available as Standalone, AU and VST3 for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux.

You can download VES for free from my website. As with all my free plugins and sample libraries, there is also an optional €5 Supporter version if you'd like to support my work and future development.

VES is also open source, and the GitHub source code is linked from the product page.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: ROMs are required and are NOT included with VES.
I do not distribute MAME ROMs, so please don't ask me to send them. You will need to provide your own ROM sets. The good news is that MAME ROMs are generally not particularly difficult to find compared with those for some other emulation platforms.

Also keep in mind that VES relies on MAME emulation. Not every supported machine is emulated to exactly the same level of completeness, so some quirks or limitations may come from the current state of MAME itself.

P.S. You may occasionally hear a few small audio drops during this video. My computer wasn't always particularly happy about running multiple emulated machines while recording the screen and audio at the same time — so those glitches are mostly from the recording setup rather than VES itself. 🙂"

Roland MC-202 in a Plugin? | Audio Damage AD-202 Demo

video upload by Autodafe

"The Audio Damage AD-202 is a modern software take on the classic Roland MC-202 MicroComposer, the compact analog monosynth and sequencer released by Roland in 1983. With its single VCO, sub oscillator, resonant 24 dB low-pass filter and simple modulation architecture, the original MC-202 shared much of its sonic DNA with instruments like the SH-101 and TB-303.

I actually owned an original Roland MC-202 many years ago — and, like quite a few pieces of vintage gear I used to have, I eventually sold it. So I was particularly curious to hear Audio Damage's take on it.

AD-202 keeps the straightforward single-oscillator architecture and vintage workflow, while expanding it with modern features including 8-voice polyphony, analog-style drift, MPE, tempo-synced modulation, saturation, drive and distortion.

In this no-talking demo, I'll simply go through some sounds and presets so you can hear what AD-202 can do.

The Legendary CS-80 Sound… Without the Price | Fabric Vintage CS

video upload by Autodafe

"The Yamaha CS-80 is one of the most legendary synthesizers ever made — a huge, expressive analog instrument that helped define some of the most iconic electronic and cinematic sounds of the late '70s and early '80s.

Unlike some of the other synths in this series, I've never owned a CS-80 — and considering its size, weight and price, that's probably not going to change anytime soon! 😄

AIR Music Tech Fabric Vintage CS is a modern interpretation of this classic performance-focused polysynth, designed to capture its rich, expressive character inside the Fabric environment.

Powered by AIR's Fabric multi-sample synthesis engine, it features two multi-sample oscillator layers plus a percussive layer, with independent filters, envelopes and LFOs, along with extensive modulation, an arpeggiator and a comprehensive effects section.

The sound library focuses on the kind of sounds you'd expect from this legendary instrument: expressive brass, evolving pads, swelling textures, cinematic leads and shimmering bell-like tones.

In this No Talking demo, I'll simply play through a selection of presets so you can hear what Fabric Vintage CS can do without interruptions.

🎧 No talking — just sounds.

Fabric Vintage CS is available for MPC Standalone, MPC Desktop and major DAWs.

The Andromeda I Could Never Afford | Fabric Vintage Andromeda

video upload by Autodafe

"The Alesis Andromeda A6 has always been one of my dream synthesizers — unfortunately, it was expensive when it was released, and it's definitely not getting any cheaper today!

I did get the chance to spend some time with a real Andromeda many years ago, when a friend and I produced a demo CD featuring some of its sounds. I still remember being seriously impressed by that huge, complex analog machine.

AIR Music Tech Fabric Vintage Andromeda brings the character of the Alesis Andromeda A6 into the Fabric environment using AIR's advanced multi-sample synthesis engine. It features two main multi-sample oscillators, a virtual analog sub oscillator, noise generator, extensive modulation, envelopes, arpeggiator and a comprehensive effects section.

In this No Talking demo, I'll simply play through a selection of presets and sounds so you can hear what Fabric Vintage Andromeda can do without interruptions.

🎧 No talking — just sounds.

SynthEdit Is Finally on Mac... After 20 Years

video upload by Autodafe

"After what feels like an eternity, SynthEdit is finally available on macOS.

If you've been making VST plugins since the early 2000s, you probably remember SynthEdit. It helped launch thousands of freeware plugins and introduced many people to plugin development—without writing much code.

The timing is almost ironic. After waiting around 20 years for a Mac version, we now live in a world of JUCE, modern C++ frameworks, and AI coding assistants that can dramatically speed up development.

Still... I think this is genuinely good news.

There are countless Windows-only SynthEdit projects that could now become available for Mac users, and that's exciting.

And yes... I guess I'll have to relearn SynthEdit too. I played with it years ago... and somehow managed to release exactly zero plugins. 😄

What about you?

Did you ever use SynthEdit?

Which old Windows-only plugin would you love to see finally come to macOS?

Not Just an Update… JE-8086 Keeps Getting Better

video upload by Autodafe

"JE 8086 by The Usual Suspects just received a new update… and this is not your typical 'couple of presets and done' kind of release.

In this video I take a closer look at version 2.2.2, focusing not only on the obvious new features, but also on the many improvements happening behind the scenes — the kind of work that really makes a difference when you actually use a plugin every day.

From the new centralized Settings panel to the redesigned MIDI Learn system, this update brings meaningful workflow improvements, including:
🔹 A new centralized Settings panel (MIDI, DSP, Audio, GUI)
🔹 A completely reworked MIDI Learn system with auto-detection (absolute/relative)
🔹 A visual MIDI Learn overlay mode for faster mapping
🔹 New high-quality and lo-fi resampler modes
🔹 DSP optimizations for better performance and efficiency
🔹 Improved parameter linking with safer behavior
🔹 Enhanced patch management and MIDI integration
🔹 A wide range of bug fixes improving stability and usability

If you had issues with previous versions, this might be a good time to give it another try.

Also worth keeping an eye on the bigger picture: many of these improvements are happening at the framework level, which means we’ll likely see them extended to other instruments from the same project in the future.

What I like about The Usual Suspects approach is the steady, continuous development — not just adding features, but refining the instrument over time.

JE-8086 - JP8000 Emulator Now Available

video upload by Elektronick Musick

Follow-up to this post.

Walkthrough by Autodafe:

JE-8086 Is OUT NOW – FREE Roland JP-8000 clone!

video upload by Autodafe

Note it requires a ROM of the OS.

"JE-8086 is now available as a public Beta, and in this video I take a closer, more technical look at the current state of the synth. I previously covered JE-8086 during its Alpha phase, and this update shows what has evolved and how the instrument behaves now that it’s opened up to everyone.

The video focuses on the **dual-part architecture (Part A / Part B)**, explaining how the two parts can be configured with different patches and used simultaneously inside a track. I walk through how each part can be treated independently, making JE-8086 suitable for layered sounds, splits, or performance-style switching within a single instance.

I also demonstrate how to *set up and use automation* for both parts of the synth, showing practical examples of parameter automation inside the DAW. This includes controlling sound-shaping parameters over time and managing automation lanes when working with the dual-engine structure.

JE-8086 is a 1:1 emulation of the original Roland JP-8000, built by The Usual Suspects and aiming for cycle-accurate behavior. The architecture, signal flow, and character closely follow the original hardware, making this one of the most faithful JP-8000 recreations currently available in software form.

Introducing SQUID-3 by Acustica Audio

video uploads by Acustica Audio

Playlist:

1. SQUID-3 - You don’t need make-up when the sound is this good.
2. SQUID-3 Explained | Complete Walkthrough

Quick No-Talk Synth Demo

video upload by Autodafe

"Here’s a fast, no-talk demo of SQUID-3 (SQ-3), the new synth by Acustica Audio. This video is all about listening: no voice-over, no explanations — just sounds and visuals so you can get a first impression of what this synth can do.

In this demo I’m simply showcasing a selection of patches and musical textures. I’m not going into technical details or deep sound-design features this time — think of this as a relaxed, musical overview rather than a tutorial.

If you’re curious about the engine, workflow, or a more in-depth breakdown, feel free to leave a comment and I may cover it in a future video. For now, just sit back and enjoy the sound."

SQUID-3 is a forward-thinking synthesizer born from Acustica’s groundbreaking MAREA series, available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats. Built to respond better than a real instrument, SQUID-3 gives you the speed to create instantly, and the depth to design without limits. It’s fluid, focused, and sonically honest.

This isn’t a vintage emulation, or a collection of pretty presets under reverb.

SQUID-3 fuses algorithmic modeling with advanced convolution, capturing the behavior of analog gear - better than gear does.

SQUID-3 is not another virtual synth.

It’s a new breed - designed to sound finished, even before the FX.
Every stage of its engine, from oscillator to output, was built to make raw synthesis sound like a mastered record.

SQUID-3 is available in two separate editions:

• the Standard (3-D, multi-page) edition, hardware-inspired interface with depth, lighting, and tactile realism for an immersive studio feel.

• a Flat (2-D version, single-page) edition, A clean, flat design optimized for speed, built for maximum graphic efficiency, where all controls are summarized on a single page"

Published on Apr 24, 2019 loopop
