RUSH videos with lots-o-synths!

via UniQue Werkx

"The first video is from Grace Under Pressure DVD from 1984. It's called "Red Sector A".
In the video you can see a custom red Mini Moog, PPG Wave 2.3, Moog Taurus pedals, Roland TR 808, Oberheim OB-Xa , Oberheim DSX sequencer, and a Roland JP-8.
Neil is using Simmons electronic drums."

Rush - Red Sector A ( Grace Under Pressure )

"Rush performing Red Sector "A" (live) from the Grace Under Pressure tour. Recorded in 1984. This song is originally from the "Grace Under Pressure" album."

UniQue Werkx on the second video: "It's from 1988, "A Show Of Hands" tour. The synths that you can see in the video are a Roland D-50, PPG Wave 2.3, KX 76 Yamaha midi controllers, Prophet VS, modified (by Tony Geranios aka Jack Secret) Moog pedals. Of course, to the side of the stage that you can't see in the video is a bunch of Akai S900 samplers, another prophet VS, Yamaha DX 7 and a Roland Jupiter 8. The majority of the synth parts in the songs are played by triggering samples in the Akai S900 samplers. Also triggering sample from the S900 samplers is Neil's Simmon drum pads and and a KAT percussion unit as well as the modified Moog Taurus pedals by Geddy and Alex."

Z8000 Matrix Sequencer

via TipTop Audio via the Muff forum
"So here is the panel design, nothing is final, open to suggestion.

My goal, is to try and keep it as small as possible, and affordable.

What you see is a set of analog CV step sequencer with 4 sets of 4 step sequencer rows and columns.

But there are also two 16 step sequencer assignments at the bottom. the first one's sequential stages being A1-A2-A3-A4-B1-B2-B3-B4--C1-etc. the second one being A1-B1-C1-D1-A2-B2-C2-D2-A3-etc. as indicated by the graphic under each 16 stage CV out.

The white circles are bicolor leds, using bicolor LEDs the 4 stage sequencers will be assigned the color red while the 16 stage sequencer will be tracked visually by the color green.

The CVs will output 0-10V, that is good to control any CV input in the system like pitch, Cutoff etc etc but also high enough to fire Envelopes or to patch one sequencer to control the direction of another sequencer, clock it, rest it etc. And those sequencers can be clocked at audio rate.

The real fun will be to surround the Z8000 with a clock divider, Quantizer, and logic gates. It is a lot of fun to have sequencers running at different speeds and different directions using all those logic modules controlling them. I like to call it logic modulation."

test of the dual osc 3U proto RM doing a Wurlitzer Piano etc...

"Funnily enough- I return here to a vid that I did in the Summer- it was one of my first 'musical' experiments with the MC1496RM built into the X-Series Dual Oscillator. The sound for me, is extremely reminiscent of a wurlitzer EP recorded dry. The Filter here is the 5U version of the 'Backen' Filter Combo. I liked it a lot as a recording- I actually recorded this in HI FI audio but I've lost the track somewhere down the line- so you hear it straight from the small mic in my Nikon D90...se what you think. It's also an experiment to see how visually this vid downloads- I have been using VideoStudio 12 with some success- but basic Microsoft Windows Movie Maker is giving me a higher quality result, but alas, less extravagant features..............any comments are of course welcome!

"Some more examples of the MPR, in this video I use it as a processor for external audio, and show it being filtered.

The CV inputs and reset input can also be used for sending audio signals into the MPR, the results are dependant on the source material as well as the amplitude.

In this basic demo I show a few examples, remember that you could try audio into one of the CV inputs and CV into the other. You can try VCO's, synths, samples, drum machines etc as audio sources into the inputs of the MPR.

Later in the clip I show the sequenced MPR output running into a resonant LPF, the unusual output from the MPR results in some nice response from the filter.

Have fun and experiment!"

Silent Way CV Input prototype

YouTube via expertsleepers
"Proof-of-concept demo of a CV Input plug-in, to be an addition to the Expert Sleepers Silent Way suite.
An Analogue Systems RS-60 envelope generator is fed, via a MOTU Ultralite interface, into the computer where its CV is recovered. The CV is then passed back out to control an Analogue Systems RS-95 VCO."

sammichSID by Wilba

"sammichSID was designed to be the “no excuses” MIDIbox SID synthesizer kit - i.e. for all those people who want a MIDIbox SID but consider building it with modules too time-consuming, too newbie-unfriendly and/or too hard to design and construct a control surface, and where MB-6582 is too expensive, too daunting and/or too hard to source all the parts.

sammichSID therefore has the following design constraints/ features, which support each other:
*cheap
*small
*DIY newbie friendly
*minimal control surface
*single “walwart”/AC adapter supply, no C64 PSU brick!
*stereo SID, optimized for 8580/6582A, 6581 optionally supported
*“sandwich-style” stacked PCB design, no wires!
*laser-cut 3mm acrylic case by Ponoko, customization possible
*industry standard 2×20 character LCD with low-power LED backlight, customization possible
*common control surface parts used, customization possible
*To be available as a complete kit, including PCBs, components, case, hardware and (optionally) two 6582A SIDs!

MIDIbox SID Synthesizer V2 features
*One Core module and one stereo SID module, fully integrated on one PCB with power supply.
*Five “BankStick” slots, so you can store 4 banks of 128 patches, plus 128 “Ensembles” (engine and patch configurations)
*Jumpers to configure the power supply, allowing a regulated 12V input to power 6581, or unregulated AC/DC input to power 8580/6582A.
*Minimal control surface with three user-customizable buttons and LED matrix for maximum bling.
*2×20 character LCD with support for low-power (25mA) or high-power (250mA) LED backlight.
*Potential for future upgrade to MIDIbox SID Synthesizer V3 using add-on board"
