Bliptronic 5000 & Kaoss Pad 3

"Here's the wonderful new toy from Think Geek, the Bliptronic 5000, with a little added talk modulation from the lovely KP3. Although the Bliptronic is basically an extremely simple step-sequencer, it looks and feels great (surprisingly, as I thought it would be really light and extremely breakable) and is very therapeutic to play on.

Has anyone else got the problem of that annoying drone when using headphones or line out? Please assure me I don't have a faulty bliptronic...

Ken Freeman and the History Of String Synthesis

"Ken Freeman couldn't afford a Mellotron to play his string parts, so he invented a new kind of electronic instrument. But though the world would eventually embrace string synthesizers with a passion, he never got the credit he deserved."

You can find the full article on Sound on Sound.

This one in via Synthwood who is currently working on a Freeman String Symphonizer Cordovox CSS like the one pictured in this post.

KORG CX3 OS Update

via Jo
"After more than one year waiting I finally decided to update the os of my KORG CX3 to version 2.01. Around the forums I learned it was very difficult and hazardous to upgrade because when the process failed it leaded to a non functional organ .... I had to upgrade through Windows because Korg only delivered a win executable
Fortunately I installed a bootcamp XP partition on my Macbook Pro. I made the upgrade with a simple Midisport 2X2 MIDI/USB interface .... and it worked without any kind of problem. Someone said to me it'll take more than 15 minutes to complete the update .... it only took 8 minutes ! Here are some snapshots of the KORG firmware upgrade program during the whole process. And after you'll find some pictures of the CX3 display during the process"

Note Jo sent me some nice images of the synth display uploading the OS but blogger is turning them solid black, so this one goes up more for informational purposes. If you have a CX3, upgrade at your own risk, but it looks like Jo was able to do it.

Update: "you can find the whole process here with all the snapshots and pictures taken"
