Casio RZ-1PLUS Drum Machine Circuit Bent Mod

"If you want to skip the explanation and hear what it does, skip to around 4 min.

This is the Casio RZ-1 Plus version. This is Casio stock version of this type of mod:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBvcXl... [below]
The kits are acoustic, electric and Latin. The number one best feature about Casio version is that its has four banks of sample memory giving you the ability of sampling 16 sounds.

The bends and mods to this drum are similar to this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVLQ0O... [below]
I painted this one white, redid the text, added wood panels, and upgraded the materials used.

Has a 30 point RCA patch bay that short circuits three of the eprom chips for a total of around 480 possible patches (if I did my math right). You can patch with in the chips and chip to chip. In addition to the patch bay there are five input / output on/off switch section with toggle switches and momentary buttons. Each toggle switch also has an LED indicator.

I also added a switch to bypass the RZ-1s main timing crystals with two getlofi 1799 precision oscillators to allow for some great pitch control. These also have LED indicators.

I've added 10k pots on the top to easier access the samples tone control. Also, I replaced the internal permanent soldered battery with a replaceable one.

Drums in the song you here are also the RZ -1

Also, tucked deep in the lab is a Commodore 64 that I'm working on."

Casio RZ-1 Drum Machine Circuit Bent Part 2 Finished

"Casio Drum Machine Circuit Bent Part 2 (Casio RZ1 RZ 1 RZ-1)

Has a 24 point RCA patch bay that short circuits three of the four eprom chips. The different chips are for certain samples, so some patches effect only certain sounds. You can patch with in the chips and chip to chip. In addition to the patch bay there are four input / output on/off switch section with toggle switches and momentary buttons.

There is now a switch to bypass the RZ-1s main timing crystals with two getlofi 1799 precision oscillators to allow for some great pitch control. I still have a little bit of tweaking to do with some different pots and resistors.

I've added 10k pots on the top to easier access the samples tone control. Also, I replaced the internal permanent soldered battery with a replaceable one.

HUGE thanks to wotatwaat at http://www.exfade.org/details5.html for his help!

Also, tucked deep in the lab is a RZ-1 Plus that I'm working on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7VVUk..."

Musikmesse: Roland GAIA SH-01

via jalvac of Future Music Spain. Googlish here.

"37 keys of standard size, battery operation and no hidden options, these are the hallmarks of GAIA SH-01, a synth built on the great tradition of Roland's analog synths compact. Offers a 64-voice polyphony and a intuitive user panel where the faders and knobs are arranged from left to right to indicate the signal flow. This is a tool with which you can relive the joy and satisfaction they once felt when you put your hands on your first analog synth. Three oscillators per voice, multimode filters, envelopes nine generators and a system of meaning ... It comes equipped for the challenges of live performances, and other benefits of GAIA SH-01 include a phrase sequencer, input external audio (with a function to attenuate the sounds of speech) and the ability to record directly onto a USB key."

Musikmesse: Korg Monotron, @ Musikmesse Frankfurt 2010

YouTube via Moogulator
"Nice Gadget . Mini Synthesizer from Korg 50€, ext. input, shown on Musikmesse Frankfurt 2010 Fast LFO. Very simple but nasty ;) by www.sequencer.de synth database"

via production room
"Coming May 2010
Powered by two alkaline AAA batteries, the compact monotron can be held in one hand. Although small enough to easily carry with you, the amazing monotron is packed with KORGs legendary analog technology, generating thick and powerful sounds. Concentrating on the most important sound parameters, the controls have been streamlined as much as possible. The panel contains only five knobs and one switch. With this level of simplicity, now anyone can easily enjoy the world of analog synthesizers.

Borrowing the enjoyment of performing with a simple touch from Korgs wildly popular KAOSS products, the monotrons ribbon controller keyboard takes this ease of use even farther. Simple finger gestures can produce expressive effects such as vibrato and glide. Used in a band, you can expand your possibilities by harmonizing with another instrument ? or taking center stage for a monotron solo!

The monotrons circuit is radically simple: one voltage-controlled oscillator, one voltage controlled filter, and one low frequency oscillator. Since each knob directly applies a specific change to the sound, the process of sound creation is intuitive, and instantly understandable. Simple is best. Gone are the deep lists of presetsand parameters typical of todays synthesizers. Instead, the monotron encourages exploration andexperimentation. The monotron provides the joy of sonic creativity that's at the heart of analog synthesis, making it an ideal choice for someone who is new to synthesizers, or for musicians who wants to expandtheir sonic palette.

The monotron uses the same highly acclaimed VCF circuit as KORGs classic MS-10 and MS-20 semi modular synthesizers. Originally released over 30 years ago, these instruments are still coveted today for their aggressive, dynamic filters. The VCF Cutoff knob sets the frequency or tone of the filter; the VCF Peak knob adds emphasis. A powerful filter is an essential aspect of any analog synthesizer, applying dramatic tonal changes to the sound, and projecting an intense personality that will stand out in any live performance.

Features
* Full-fledged, true analog synthesizer: VCO, VCF, LFO
* Inspiring, easy-to-play ribbon keyboard
* Intuitive, fun-to-tweak controls
* Features the same classic analog filter found in the legendary Korg MS-10 & MS-20
* Filter any external source using the audio input jack
* LFO can modulate either pitch of filter cutoff
* LFO Rate knob features cool LED visual indicator.
* Battery operation and palmtop size equals true portability
* Internal speaker/headphone jack lets you enjoy the sound anywhere ? alone or with friends!"

OpenSoundControl breadboard feat iPhone

YouTube via MusicMiK

"Another quick hack...

Saturday afternoon - started to implement a chip driver for the ENC28J60 and basic IPv4 stuff. Sunday evening, ICMP (ping) and ARP worked fine, and even if the job used up most of the time yesterday and today (Tuesday), i had a working simple TCP socket this morning.

This evening, it took about 2 hours to hack together UDP support and some simple OSC message parsing.

So all in all - IP and OSC are really simple to implement, all this should also be no problem with an AVR MCU, and if i optimize memory usage, even a small ATmega168 or so might do the job. Everything is coded in C++ and with all the display stuff with graphics routines and lots more of garbage in the firmware, i currently get about 37KB code size on the ARM7TDMI used in this setup.

Imagine what's possible. Sure, OSC-MIDI is easy going. But how about controlling your home using the iPhone? Turning on and off the lights, studio gear, anything. I think, i will soon throw away the remote controlled power outlets and make a 19" 1U rackmount unit with some OSC features to control power of my gear.

Maybe the MonoMiK even gets more than MIDI. USB is quite sure, Ethernet would be also interesting now. A true analog synth with Ethernet? Why not? :)

Sorry for the blurred overall image, my camera can't re-focus during video and i set the focus for the details."
