RARE RED SOUND DARKSTAR

via this auction

Update via Dave O Mahoney in the comments: "The auction is a little misleading... the XP2 does NOT take the vocoder chip. I asked RedSound themselves years ago and the reply was 'It wasnt implemented in software before the product was discontinued.'

The original Darkstar can take them - the XP2 cannot, even though there is an expansion port for the chip. I'll happily swap my XP2 for an original with vocoder chip!

The chips themselves are difficult to come by, but I have seen clone chips on ebay."

"Brooks, Erik, Michael, Nathan, Jerrod and I got together for an evening of fun w/ all kinds of modulars backed w/ fat beats from the jomox. To think we do this at least every other week!"

"monome responding to ambient infrared light from the sun. At sunset and sunrise the intensity of light reaches a threshold level, which causes the input sensors on the monome to randomly trigger for about five minutes (before this time they are over-saturated and cannot reset to an "off" state, and after this time there is not enough light to produce an "on" message). This stream of random data was sent to a frequency modulated synthesis patch in Max/MSP with a corresponding spectral LED display: in effect, translating ambient light into ambient sound.
