The Circuit Molester Covers Tara Busch for The Bob Moog Foundation

This one in via The Circuit Molester

"Here is my entry for the Laura Busch remix contest that is raising money for the Bob Moog Foundation. It's mixed kind of hot so listen on bigger speakers if possible. Better yet download it and listen to it on your stereo. Am I crazy or does something from soundcloud sound better if you download it? This is my first electronic based song and I would love some tips, feedback or comments. Enjoy!

A couple of weeks ago I sent my Moog Tribute Edition Little Phatty back to the factory in Asheville, NC for a factory upgrade. In addtion to updating the internal software, the good folks at Moog added some CV(control voltage) outputs to interface with older/pre midi synth gear. I'd been experimenting with CV in my DIY and circuit bent gadgets so I was excited to play around with the real deal in the Phatty.

In one of my phone conversations with the Moog factory someone mentioned that Tara Busch from AnalogSuicide.com was hosting a remix contest to help raise money for the Moog Foundation's student outreach program and as soon as I got my Phatty back I was on a mission.

My main studio was rented out for the month and since there was a deadline I pieced together a makeshift laptop studio in my dining room.

External Synths..................
Waldorf Micro Q
Moog Little Phatty
Realistic Moog Mg-1
Korg Chaos Pad
Assorted DIY/Circuitbent Noise Maker Thingys.

Soft Synths..................................
Arturia v collection
Roland Jupiter 8
Minimoog
Prophet
and Modular Moog

Oh yeah, I had never used Ableton Live before. Using a friends laptop I struggled for a week but I finally got the hang of it and got my track in 1 day before the deadline.

Someone that is used to hearing me play with Grayson Capps and the Lost Cause Minstrels might be a little suprised by the electronic nature of this song but it's still me. I've just decided to embrace my inner Circuit Molester and explore the realms of electronic music. I'm having a blast!

"This is a rare and lovely sampler/synth. It's had all the upgrades available giving it 8 separate outputs and I think more memory. It was used to write the theme for the TV show 'The Net' back in the late 80's or early 90's and I've owned it since 1995. I had it serviced and repaired by The Synthesizer Service Centre back in 1999 and hardly used it since I moved to a smaller place. It's a 16 bit machine that uses 4 bits for the operating system leaving 12 for the sound giving it a unique 'edge' and some lovely gutsy results. the built in patches are classic vintage sounds and it does wonders with whatever you record in or upload from a floppy disc. If you're looking for that unique, authentic, vintage sound in a machine that's a joy to mess around with look no further. I've loved it a lot but it needs to go to a good home where it will be used.

The down sides are. It has some damage to one of the output sockets which still works and can be easily replaced. It sometimes sends tiny amounts of midi data on the mod wheel channel which shows up on midi recorders but so far has never actually caused any midi events. Being such a unique device the OS is a bit weird but if I can get my head round it anyone can. It comes with full manuals so no problems getting it going."

via the listing: "i fashioned a sesame street keyboard inside this gameboy box and attached a separate gameboy with all the controls from the bends. it has great sounds of mechanical madness and short out frenzies. there is a full scale of keys with multiple sounds to trigger and four sound effects that sound really spacy and cool. also has some sequenced songs so you can adjust bends while multiple notes trigger. bends include: multiple pitch bends, short outs, toggles, and chippy madness... a one of a kind and truly unique sounding instrument. its a great addition to your lofi arsenal. this unit still functions in its factory mode for full control and sound manipulation. i really enjoy this piece and with all the bends the sounds are limitless. ...any questions welcomed and thanks for looking. for more mods and bends visit greightbit [dot] com great feedback from around the globe."
