Sometimes Is Not Enough (original instrumental on Eigenharp Alpha)
Published on Oct 19, 2012 by Geert Bevin
"This is an original composition, played live on the Eigenharp Alpha and looped for some parts.
It uses a single sound on my Moog Slim Phatty for all the sections of the song. This one of the challenges that I've been setting for myself. I want to create only a few very expressive and versatile sounds that I perfectly learn to play on the Eigenharp in all their nuances, as opposed an arsenal of thousands of sounds that are totally unconnected from myself.
Here I'm driving the Slim Phatty over Control Voltage, giving me an incredibly detailed connection to the expression of the sound. This is possible thanks to the Expert Sleepers ES-3 module which converts the data from the Eigenharp over digital ADAT audio to Direct Current.
Pressure on the keys is tied to volume, left-right movement to filter cutoff and up-down movement to pitch. I'm additionally controlling distortion through the breath pipe of the Alpha and delay feedback through its strip controller, both are AudioUnit effects from Rob Papen. The looping is done through Mobius and is controlled through a Rig Kontrol USB MIDI footpedal."

"This isn't a masterpiece or anything but I was getting a bit bored of spending days endlessly tweaking parts of synth driven tracks so I thought I would have a go at thrashing out a Disco edit over a few hours for fun. I didn't dig deep for this sample and it's a big loop so I'll give a pat on the back to the first person who names it in the comments section (excluding YouTube member BlizardOfTheCoast who I know will know it immediately but who can have a pat on the back anyway).
For those interested in the tech side this is just TR-909 and Akai S900 making the sounds, with the Akai ASQ10 sequencing the samples and S900 drums and the internal sequencer of the TR-909 sequencing its own sounds. The Akai MFC42 is filtering and phasering the loop (with some envelope tricks clocked to the 909) and the final mix is going through a bit of heavy Alesis 3630 compression."

Note this is just the original Nextel paint bluish grey Q. When the Q was first released it was available in Yellow and this color. I do not remember it ever being referenced as the "Halloween Edition". According to the listing, "This is evidently the Halloween version as shown on the Waldorf Wikipedia page." And sure enough, here it is. It's interesting how nicknames for synths form over time, for example the ARP 2600 Grey Meanie. Does anyone know when this one came about?

"It all works great. It has seen a recent service by Clacktronics, and all knobs were replaced. The synth functions with Batteries (not included, ha) or a PSU which i'll throw in
The keyboard sensitivity would need tweaking were you to want to use it with batteries (a simple pot accessed with a screwdriver on the front panel), but it's perfectly fine running off the mains
As you can see, cosmetically it has seen better days. The casing below the keyboard must have broken and been repaired by a previous owner. It is very common for WASPs to fall apart! There are some other marks on the side too, as in the last photos"
