"The secrets of subtractive synthesis "The 4 Element Synth"
Rob Papen is a globally renowned sound designer whose sounds and virtual synthesizers are used and loved by many synthesizer players and music producers.
This 200+ page book, which is accompanied by four DVDs with over 10 hours of content, gives an in-depth insight into his approach of working with subtractive synthesis.
In 2001, Rob Papen began giving exclusive masterclasses teaching 'synthesizer sound design" in his studio. For these training sessions, Rob developed his own method to explain the secrets of subtractive synthesis, called "The 4 Element Synth".
This masterclass training is now transformed into a combined book and DVD package that also delivers numerous 'tips and tricks' which will help you to design and tweak your own sounds. Throughout the masterclass, a variety of hardware and software synthesizers are explored.
We are sure this synthesizer sound design training is an eye-opener for every synthesizer player, from novice to pro. A must have for everyone who takes his sounds seriously!"
"Seen here- A Micromac- D Analogue Synthesizer being played via a MacBeth Touch Capacitataive Keyboard and being fed into something that I just knocked up! This is what I call a 'Tape Delay Synthesizer'!....it's lo fi- mildly grungy- but mesmorizing to work with! Still to be refined- but I hear the potentiontial- it's 'breaky wakey' at moments- but it seems to work well- this shall be partnered into my complimentary synth to the micromac. It's a twin delay device- stereo in other words- but here we have delay 1 being fed into delay 2- so it's mono.....but mad!"
"Here's a demo of upcoming version 2.0 of my MIDI Melodeon app for iPad with CoreMIDI support. Supports both B/C and D/G style layouts. The port from the old DSMI interface was trivial, took less than an hour. DSMI really isn't supported anymore so all future versions will be CoreMIDI based. I'll also be porting the Cyborg GCF three-row app to use CoreMIDI as well. Once I have a chance to test the new code on all the various iPad models, I'll submit the update to Apple."
"PsyGen is the new VSTi by M-RGT, it is a granular multilayer synthesizer using samples as source for unique sound generation in the creation of experimental ambient soundscapes, drones, special effects, as well as more traditional synthesizer sounds.
I find it especially useful for deep pads, complex sound worlds and dark drones, which are my main sonic field for ambient/dark ambient genres. I find it also interesting to build great extraterrestrial grooves, weird FX sounds, atmosphere recreations and bass sequences.
Its sonic power, the ease to create new and awesome sounds and its usability due to a clean interface. Also audio quality is impressive even while some of the samples are mono.
The sequencer is really useful, allowing to create very complex textures, rhythms and letting large evolving sounds take its time...
It's hard to imagine what the limit of this tool is: it's sonic possibilities are endless to me."
