Update on I Dream of Wires Documentary Release

via Modular: the documentary on Facebook:

"When is "I Dream Of Wires" going to be released?

Hi,

My name is Jason Amm, and I'm the producer for "I Dream Of Wires" (IDOW), an upcoming documentary about the resurgence of modular synthesizers. If you're reading this, you probably already know all about IDOW, and have been anticipating it's release for quite a while. Chances are you may have even contributed money to one of our IndieGoGo fundraising campaigns, and have been wondering when you're going to receive your perk.

It was suggested in our IndieGoGo fundraising write-ups that the film would be completed sometime around Sept/Oct 2012. When we started this project, IDOW was in our minds going to be a small, straight-to-DVD niche film, and so this release date was a realistic goal. But the scope of the film, and the ever-growing interest in it, has gotten so much larger than we originally expected. We've been overwhelmed by all of the support from everyone following our progress, and it's largely this massive interest in the project that's ended up making it so much bigger than we originally anticipated. Though it has delayed the release, we are extremely excited by the wealth and quality of the material we've collected. With just two people working on IDOW (myself and director Robert Fantinatto), the task of sorting through over a hundred amazing interviews, and organizing those into a coherent and compelling film, has been daunting to say the least. We've really struggled to work out how to do this properly in a way that will satisfy the community of hardcore modular synthesizer fanatics (ourselves included), while also hopefully having an impact outside of that world.

So... "When is 'I Dream Of Wires' going to be released?"

Analog Craftsman Polivoks Mixer module demo by Mecanikill?

Published on Jan 31, 2013 Me CanIKill·3 videos

"Here's a demo of the new Analog Craftsman module the Polivoks Mixer. To show how it add nice distortion I chose to use a regular Dotcom Q106 that a lot are familiar with and split the outputs and ran one through a Dotcom mixer and the other through the Polivoks. The top signal you see on the scope is the Polivoks and the bottom the Dotcom mixer. It really adds a aggressive sound to it. Product description and info as follows:
As with our acVOKS VCF, this is a recreation of a section from the Russian Polivoks synthesizer. This time we've tackled the mixer section. Fundamentally nothing special, but everyone needs a mixer and this one sounds different. It is designed and built directly from the original schematics and with those unique Russian op amps and transistors. This three channel mixer can balance yours levels from glasnost to a subtle version of revolution (just a touch of added harmonic content.)

Grain Bastard - Borderland Impakt (Jan 2013)

Grain Bastard - Borderland Impakt (Jan 2013) from Grain Bastard on Vimeo.

"Hi. Thanks for watching my video.

In this one I use the superb app 'Borderlands Granular' & 'Impaktor' with a little help from my MD SPS-1, DSI Mopho & the Monotron. The snow had gone so I felt a little more energetic and upped the tempo along with the noise!!!! :)

I'm also considering getting another camera to add some other angles in the videos, to make them a bit more interesting and hopefully show you the iPad screens a little better. Video production is something new to me so I'm also learning video editing as I go along and wanted a little bit of practice before I spend any cash. Therefore I added in a few fake 2nd camera angle shots to practice with the editor (Pinnacle Studio on the iPad) and see how they looked etc. However, I should have tried with a different track as due to the way Impaktor works, I had to wear headphones when performing to stop the sound from the speakers triggering it. This meant I had no audio on the main video take to sync the line audio to which I capture from the mixer!!! I also edited a section from the video as I felt it was too long, so the audio/video sync is off in a few places as trying to align video to the audio by matching flashing lights was getting a little tedious!!!!

You learn from your mistakes though :) - I'll try a bit harder next time.

Thanks for watching - more music/sounds at www.soundcloud.com/punisha

Peace.

PS - that's one of my dogs toys on the floor in the background, nothing illegal!!!! Lol, I admit it looks suspect :)"
