Published on Feb 7, 2013 ooo6·14 videos

"The Super Mario Bros. theme from the old NES, without a doubt the most memorable video game theme song in the history of video games, played on the theremin.

In this video, I passed the theremin signal through the very awesome distortion plugin, iZotope Trash.

If you are new to the theremin, please learn about it. There is tons of info out there on the web. It's really a fascinating instrument and worth the time to check it out.

Long live Prof. Leon Theremin and Dr. Robert Moog!

MMTA Spring SYNTHFEST 2013 Coming to Seattle on March 16

The MMTA Spring Synth Fest 2013 is scheduled for March 16, 2013 at Shoreline Community College just north of Seattle. You can find a map of the campus here (building 800).

There will be four rooms this year:

The Petting Zoo where you can check out gear brought by people attending the event.

The Performance / Telepresentation Room for scheduled performances and presentations.

The Trade Show Room where manufacturers will be able to give demos on their gear. This is similar to The Petting Zoo but will likely be a quieter setting where you can go one on one with individual manufacturers.

Jam Session Room where people can perform with their gear.

Additional details will follow as we get closer to the date. We wanted to get the word out now for those who need to make travel plans.

You can find the Mostly Modular Trade Association on Facebook here.

See the MMTA SYNTHFEST label below for pics and videos from prior events.

If you are a manufacturer and would like to present at the event, send me email: matrixsynth@gmail.com.

After a long recording session this was the result.
Main instruments used were Synthesizers.com, Monopoly & MPC2500, sequencing with Q960 & Q119. All sounds produced from hardware and recorded with Ableton.

"5u moog format modular, a juno 6 and arturia minibrute daytime improvisation. sorry if the EQ is slightly off, I didn't have the headphone jack up high enough on my mixer that was sending audio to my camera's input and I had to EQ out some noise. The layered video is some footage I made with some artists I teach at nearby art center. This was from a matrix re-edit that we ran through a feedback loop"

"Vintage Radio Shack Electronic Drums. (Made by Tandy) + 12V 1200ma Ktec adapter and a pair of plastic sticks.

There are four pads - Snare, Bass, Tom and Phaser.

There are three knobs in the back where you can control the snare decay, the phaser range and the volume.

The sounds sound a bit like a toy version of the Simmons SDS modules.

There are two internal speakers. This thing is pretty loud."

"For sale is this vintage early-1980s PPG Wave 2.2 analog/digital hybrid synthesizer. This particular one owner example is in very excellent original condition and was professionally modded when new with the MIDI upgrade. This extremely rare synth was made in Germany by Palm Products GmbH and is regarded as being one of the finest synths to incorporate digital samples controlled by an analog interface. The Wave 2.2 is considerably more rare than its Wave 2.3 successor, and though they appear to be similar, are actually quite different. Synth enthusiasts and keyboard connoisseurs alike will both recognize just how rare this synth is, as very few of these units were manufactured, so don't hesitate because this opportunity does not come along very often.

This PPG Wave 2.2 incorporates digital samples of wavetables while utilizing analog VCA, as well as analog, VCF sections. The Wave 2.2 also features; an oscillator capable of generating over 2,000 single-cycle 8-bit analog waveforms, a digital control panel with a more complex editor than previous versions, MIDI implementation, and an 8-track sequencer utilizing pitch automation, loudness, filter cutoff, waveforms and much more.

Originally inspected by PPG authorized service technician Ed Miller of syntheisizerrepair.com when first imported, this synth will include a complementary service and clean bill of health from Miller himself. Used by David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Stevie Wonder, and an ever-expanding list comprised of the best recording artists of all time, this is a magnificent instrument is worthy of the best studios, as well as, the ownership of even the most accomplished synth collectors."
