The MCV1 was a monophonic MIDI-to-CV/GATE-Interface that could control other vintage analog synthesizers equipped with CV and Gate/Trigger inputs via MIDI."

Doepfer's introduction to synth design actually started back in 1977. Via Wikipedia: "Dieter Döpfer began developing audio hardware with a Voltage Controlled Phaser (VCP) module for the Formant, a do-it-yourself-kit analog synthesizer from Elektor magazine in 1977. Several legendary modular synths followed while Döpfer also focused on the development of MIDI equipment during the 1980s."

The eurorack format is largely attributed to him.

"This demo includes the Korg ES-1 sampler, Korg EM-1 workstation, and Novation DrumStation drum synth. The EM-1 is sequencing the DrumStation, the DrumStation is doing it's own sort of 909 impression, and the ES-1 is playing back the sample (Cathy Dennis "Touch Me", sampled off the 12" single and pitched down). The ES-1 is also functioning as an effects unit with it's audio in being connected to an effects send on my mixer. The reverb is an Electro Harmonix Holy Stain."
