Synth Rorschach #39: Senator Palpatine's Office - Star Wars

Been meaning to post this one literally for years... It's always when I'm watching one of the films and then I forget. :)

So, what design cues do you see here? Hint, the designer recently announced a new hardware synthesizer limited to two runs of 20.

The design cues are also in different scenes in the original Star Wars films. I always wondered if the designer picked up some of his design styles from the films.

Update: a few more design cues from the original films added below. Oh, and ignore the Oreos, although, the size of an Oreo is roughly the size of one of the knobs on the particular synth I thought of. :)

What does Elements Sound like? (40 mins, Audio Only)

Published on Oct 16, 2015 macbethsynthesizers

"I did this sound collage yesterday using 3 Elements synthesizers and 1 eight track machine. Not all eight tracks are used! I was thinking of Conrad Schnitzler and his solo works when I made this. I was also thinking of the Radiophonic Workshop too....all played by hand- Elements x 3, Elements Miniseq 1, Korg SQ-10 and 1 Ibanez Flying Pan Phaser...there is extensive use of the on-board spring reverberator and the Tape Delay Simulator...this is quite a long audio track but worth a listen, I think!"

GrainFlux – 2.0 Update Overview

Published on Oct 16, 2015 Spektro Audio

"The new 2.0 update for GrainFlux, our granular / hybrid Max for Live synthesizer, is now available and it includes new features, enhancements and bug fixes.

GrainFlux is a MaxforLive synthesizer that combines different synthesis techniques such as granular, wavetable, and subtractive synthesis to create unique and distinctive sounds. It works by using audio samples to create two different waveforms which can be morphed and modulated. While GrainFlux has a modern and simple to use design, it still offers many powerful and creative ways for you to manipulate its sound.

GrainFlux is available at http://www.spektroaudio.com/grainflux"

October '15 Synth Jam

Published on Oct 16, 2015 Mitch Wiseman

"Just improvising. I found the prophet patch I made quite interesting, so I thought I would put it in a track, it uses env3 to modulate the oscillator pitches with noise, giving a very interesting effect, as it comes in and out. The mini brute is running a sequence, and going through an MXR carbon copy. The moog is also going through an MXR carbon copy, plus a phaser and flanger in logic. The nord is using onboard effects. Everything has some valhalla reverb on it.

Album coming soon..."

Synth Rorschach #38: an operator

via monsta poly

"I found something in my lovely old book (Richard Scarry, What Do People Do All Days)."

Note the little vocoder mike!  :)

The obvious rorschach is a modular synthesizer, but see if you can identify what brand and why?

Hint: it's yellow and has tubes.
