VGM #83: Sky Chase Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog 2)

Published on Aug 17, 2016 Ace Waters

"I had other plans for this weeks song. Plans I am working on right now for a future VGM. But Jake Slate commented that he was hoping for another classic Sonic cover, and I decided to honor that request. The idea of doing a super chilled out rendition of Sky Chase Zone just kind of took over. Sometimes you follow inspiration. Also, just want to let you all know I read your comments and I take note of all the requests I get. I can't always make it happen, and a lot of them will get forgotten about, but I look to them for inspiration, and when I find it, I follow it."

4ms VCA Matrix modular synth jam performance & demo

Published on Aug 16, 2016 Patrick OBrien

"Featuring the power of the 4ms VCA Matrix!! This live modular synth jam / demo features the Eurorack module which has four CV or audio inputs that can be routed in any amount/combination to four outputs, using the 16 CV control jacks, Level knobs, and Mute buttons. More info on the module: http://www.4mspedals.com/vcam.php

4 Voices:
Kick: Mutable Instruments Peaks
Bass: Make Noise STO
Melody: Intellijel Dixie II+
Clap: Hexinverter Mutant Clap

Effects:
Reverb: Audio Damage AEverb
Delay: 4ms Dual Looping Delay
Granulation: Audio Damage Grainshift

The clock starts with the Make Noise Wogglebug feeding the Make Noise Tempi, which also clocks a Delptronics Triggerman, triggering CV to various channels. It also feeds the 4ms Pingable Envelope Generator to make a long kick trigger midway through the piece. I used Intellijel's Dual ADSR for envelope shaping. The melody is sequenced by Kilpatrick Audio K4815 Pattern Generator. Mutable Instruments Warps and Make Noise DPO were being used as CV also, giving a unique sound to some channels.

All 4 outputs of the 4ms Matrix were sent to a Malekko MUTE 4 outputting to Pittsburgh Modular Outs, sent to Ableton Live for master file creation for YouTube, SoundCloud, and Instagram.

-------------------------------

I recorded video with an iPhone 6+ then manually synced the video with the audio using iMovie.

-------------------------------

No computers were used in the performance of this piece. All modular synths, recorded live in a single take."

Microbe Modular Alternate Equation Composer Firmware for Mutable Instruments' Braids

via Microbe Modular

"A port of the Braids Firmware to the Equation Composer, by Mathieu Routhier

Inspired by VIznut's 'Algorithmic symphonies from one line of code' and the BitWiz Audio Synth, the Equation Composer creates a wide range of gritty, 8-bit sounding melodies, waveforms, and noise. The module is organized into CV selectable 'programs', where each program can act like a unique synthesizer.

Internally, the Equation Composer is based on the powerful Arduino Due. Although the module has been built to be enjoyed 'as-is', there's a prominent USB jack on the front for updating the firmware and the software is open source. 14 extra pins have been brought to an expansion header on the rear. The Arduno code itself is modular, allowing various software 'modules' to be strung together into 'programs' that act like individual synths. (Re-programming is recommended for advanced developers and requires some C++.)"
