Arcade Game Music with DigDugDIY

Published on May 11, 2018 Alex Ball

"/////////////////////////

I've been waiting to get my hands on a DigDugDIY Lofi dreams FX unit for about 2 years and finally nabbed one. Put it to use in an Arcade Game style track.

More info on it here: http://digdugdiy.com/lofi-dreams/

Featuring:
Roland SH-101 (1982) - Main riff
Roland JX-3P (1983) - Step sequenced arpeggios and chords
Yamaha DX7 (1983) - Bass line
Roland Juno-6 (1982) - Chords
Roland TR-606 (1981) - Analog Drums - Clocked with an Arturia BeatStep Pro
Sequential Circuits Pro-One (1981) - Oscillator Sync Lead (I've just picked this legendary synth up, will be doing a separate video on it)
Dr Scientist BitQuest FX Pedal - Bit Crushing distortion on SH-101 and TR-606
DigDugDIY Lofi Dreams - Arcade sampler and granular device. Used to replay processed chords and sounds from my Juno-6 and JX-3P.
Guitars - Ibanez Jem 7DBK and Dan Electro Baritone. Ibanez Tubescreamer TS808, Fender Blues Junior II, Mic'd with an SM57
Drums - Mapex Horizon HZB kick and snare with Istanbul Agop 16" hi-hat cymbals. Recorded with a single SM57 (pointed between kick and snare) and smashed through Vulf Compressor
Drums in the box - Samples from Atari, Game Boy and NES from Sony Sound Series Chiptune Odyssey library (I think it's since been discontinued), Spitfire "The Grange"
FX - Also from Chiptune Odyssey and various other Arcade sounds
Vocals: Recorded with an AKG C414 - One lead with two doubles panned slightly left and right and mixed back. Then two harmony parts, each doubled and panned left and right. So a total of seven vocals.

Sequencer: Cubase 9.5
Plugins: Waves, Goodhertz, Izotope, IK Multimedia, U-he

How to make a Game Boy Micro to Pocket Operator sync cable

Published on May 11, 2018 0F.digital

"Finally, a tutorial on how to make an analog sync cable for Game Boy Micro! I've had many requests for a video, so I finally got around to making one.

Sorry about things going out of frame every now and then; I wasn't quite watching the screen on the camera the whole time. Hopefully there's enough information to make your own cable.

Thanks to Oliver Wittchow and Teenage Engineering for making great products that work nicely together."

AE Modular-Tangible Waves 3VCSWITCH modulation

Published on May 11, 2018 Dziam Bass

"Hi Guys. This time it's AE Modular from tangible waves - small patch in which I wanted to pay attention to the 3VCSWITCH module which has gate and latch.

I added PWM to IO1-A1 latch input and I can control and more accurately switch between ready sound between normal and modulated sound. there are up to 3 such gate / latch so you can give a lot of modulations in the second version with LFO but I think that this picture is better.

This mini modular gives you huge opportunities with the new arsenal and it is growing faster and the project from Eurorack is already being developed.🙃😁

If interested, I´d send them over to you.

"A short video I filmed late in 2017 for the Roland Boutique 60 Second Sessions competition. This is a short extract from a much longer song for the new album I am working on. The synth section of my studio has grown somewhat since this was filmed.
A Synthesizers.com modular rig has been added and is growing quickly."

"We check out the feature packed semi-modular unit "ANTS!" from Plankton Electronics at Superbooth 2018. With lots of oscillators, a great filter, logic, utilites and a lot more than a lot of other semi-modular desktop units. Sounds great too!

Superbooth 2018 - ALM Busy Circuits Sampler, Wavetable Oscillator, Function Generator & Headphone Ou

Published on May 11, 2018 DivKidVideo

"ALM not only have a new darker grey panel and coloured knob set (looking great) but new modules at Superbooth 2018 too. There's the 8 channel sampler that's quick and simple to use with a Pamela's NEW Workout style menu system. A function generator that can be envelopes, LFOs or a sequencer. Headphone output, small, simple and useful. And finally a new 6HP wavetable oscillator with sub out, PWM style FX over the wavetables and a great sound in a small space.

Superbooth 2018 - XAOC Devices Odessa Additive Mega Oscillator & Zadar Quad Wavetable Envelopes

Published on May 11, 2018 DivKidVideo

"There's a lot of talk about the new Odessa from XAOC Devices. It's a 512 partial additive oscillator. With fundamental, odd and even outputs, multiple voices for unison FX, through zero linear FM, lots of harmonic control - it's a totally new thing for the format. There's Zadar which is a quad wavetable addressing envelope for complex shapes and manipulation. This can also go up into audio rates which I'm sure is interesting too.
