gettin moody with the 1981 Oberheim OB-Xa

video upload by J3PO

"The Oberheim OB-Xa is one of they vibiest synths of all time, in my opinion. This video is an exploration of tone and sound, hopefully capturing the essence of the beautiful pads, strings, plucks, and soundscapes that the instrument is capable of creating. Some patches are factory and some are presets I've made. The OB-Xa is also capable of making incredible basses, aggressive brasses, leads, and so on, but in this video, I've decided to present to you what I think the instrument excels at: the softer side of things--creating moody atmospheres and melancholic tones.

This particular OB-Xa was serviced recently by Rob Rosen at Rosen Sound in Burbank, CA.

I have preset banks available for the Prophet Rev 2, Prophet 6, OB-6, Prophet 5/10, XLN Audio's Addictive Keys Mark One, Softube’s Model 84, and the DiscoDSP OB-Xd available on my website www.j3po.net. If you're a Nord Stage 3 user, download my bank from the Nord Keyboards website."

Modular Grainbient with Arbhar, ADDAC 112, Morphagene, Beads, and more

video upload by Omri Cohen

"If Grainbient will eventually become a thing, I would like to think that this piece was the beginning of it. I have multiple recordings of various instruments like kalimba, piano, and the Make Noise STO recorded onto Arbhar, the new ADDAC looper and granular processor, Morphagene, Beads, and Microcell. I also record two loops with the STO onto Lubadh and I play them live."

Note the listing is for the sequencer only, not the complete system in the video above. See this post for a demo of another system.

"The Seiko 202/250 (maybe more?) are quite rare on their own merit, so the expansions (the DS-320 and DS-310) are even rarer. Since these units didn't do very well commercially, they weren't produced for very long - hardly any were collected/kept. If you find some demo's of what these are capable of, you'll definitley be itching for one - and this sequencer adds to the madness. The whole setup was supposed to rival the Synclavier (with varying results) but really amounts to some very interesting 80's additive synthesis. JM Jarre used this on a couple of his notable compositions (but, as is the case for just about every synthesizer)..."
