Korg opsix Version 2.0 - Operator Modes in Depth: Effect Operator

video upload by Oscillator Sink

"Korg have just dropped version 2.0 firmware for the opsix. The headline feature is surely the addition of the new "Effect" operator mode which allows you convert an operator into a one of ten different fx units within your patch - and it's fantastic.

In this video I take a look at each of the ten different effects, explain how they operate and make some suggestions for creative uses.

00:00 - Intro
00:58 - Effects Operator Overview
02:32 - Effect Type: Peak EQ
06:01 - Effect Type: Shelf EQ
08:09 - Effect Type: Phaser
13:40 - Effect Type: Short Delay
17:41 - Effect Type: Comb Filter (and Physical Modelling!)
22:11 - Effect Type: Distortion
24:51 - Effect Type: Drive
27:24 - Effect Type: Decimator
32:01 - Effect Type: Wave Shaper
40:18 - Effect Type: Punch

Transparency notice: the Opsix was kindly provided to me by Korg, but they have not had any input as to the content of these videos."

"If you're looking at this, the chances are you already know about the wonderful world of the Gecho Loop synth. Endless sonic beauty and madness in a lovely ash box. This example is brand new, opened, switched on, played with for five minutes, then listed here. Just not right for me. It comes with all the leads and other bits it was shipped with."

"This is a V2 unit in excellent condition and is the final revision OS 2.01f. There were not many of these made to begin with, and the final version was meticulously revised upon Klaus Schulze’s demands and specifications."

First minutes with the Pulsar 23 (Did I really hear Santa Claus?)

video upload by batchas

"Here's an excerpt of the first 30 minutes I spent playing with the SOMA Pulsar 23.
To be more precise, it's the end of the session.
A part of my pain management through music and rhythm.

First disappointed with the bass drum section. Not fond of the sound, but then found a spot that I enjoyed. I felt limited by not being able to 'move the clock divisions forward' (makes drum sequencing too straight), but TBH it’s way too early to have an opinion about the machine, as I played only 30 minutes with it, starting right away with jamming, without looking first in details at the different functions. I’ll do that next.

No external effect added. No EQ or whatever; Just mono out to audio interface for recording."
