LXR-02: Updating the firmware & loading kits and projects on the SD card

video upload by Richard DeHove

"The microSD card is the heart of the LXR-02 drum machine. Here I update the firmware, load all the default factory content and add the extra Hrtl project with kits and demo patterns from the Erica Synths website.
If you've bought a used LXR-02 and want to 'factory reset', or just want to update the firmware, or start with a fresh "blank canvas" then this is for you.
In the process we look at the contents of all six factory projects as well as the free Hrtl project. At the end I quickly play through the 16 Hrtl kits and demo patterns.

What Does a Passive Multiple Do? (Eurorack Modular Synth 101 - 1)

video upload by Musical Miscellany (Poorness Studios)

"I've been asked this question several times, so I decided to do a video explaining what a multiple does. It's pretty self-explanatory but hopefully this video is helpful to someone. The mult I use is made by Rakit."

family meeting: Roland MRS-2 Promars and Roland Jupiter 4

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"Since I just serviced a Promars for a friend of mine I decided to compare it to my JP4.
Both units are fully working, recapped and calibrated. And both are from latter revision with IR3109 filters. Basically they have same motherboard, module board and module control board.

First a quick impro taking advantages of what makes them different: Promars has a second VCO with 2 tuning settings so it can sounds thicker than the JP4, whereas the latter is of course polyphonic and has a builtin arpeggiator and stereo chorus effect.
They share the same CPU and 'compuphonic' technology and have (almost) the same presets.
You can hear when I compare both synths that the presets don't sound exactly the same but this is more a question of calibration and preset values then synth character.
Calibration method are different for the 2 synths and there are slight different adjutements, especially on the filter frequency, width, resonance and hi pass filter setting.
Also i'm quite sure the presets value are a bit different in the JP4 and Promars. Most obvious is the "voice" preset with is one octave higher on the JP4 ! And listening to other presets some a bit brighter on the Promars while other are brighter on the JP4.
But you can observe when I edit the JP4 presets that it's very easy to get the same sound from both unit.

They do get along quite well and their respective particular features make owning the two of them even more desirable."

"Check out the MATRIXSYNTH article on the battery leak fix mod and how it's done. If it's not my Multi-Trak you end up with, you'll want to inspect yours to make sure that's taken care of.

The Multi-Trak has a character that is particularly unique, especially when compared to other polysynths of the mid 80's. Some will immediately think of the matrix editor, a somewhat trendy synth interface at the time. If you can come around to matrix patching, I've found 3 things that mostly distinguish the Multi-Trak: its precocious and self-contained sequencer, the oscillator envelope, and the somewhat snarly Curtis CEM3394 voice chip.

The sound is a bit brash and brassy, sweet, snappy, something like sour candy, but it can be sculpted into lush and hazy sounds, just like any subtractive synth. The Multi-Trak fits naturally in many styles of music; techno, disco, dance rock, hip hop. It's sibling, the Six-Trak, was used on the 2017 album GT Ultra by Guerilla Toss. This classic Sequential Circuits synth certainly boasts an intimidating feature set, but it is fairly easy to get used to. With a bit of patience, you'll find plenty of play and ideas."
