"Meticulously overhauled by the most critical professionals around and working perfectly, no excuses or surprises typical of most vintage sales these days.

In addition to any repairs, we paid our tech to do the following work to this example. Some of these are things we typically do to our Xpanders during restoration and some were to fix an intermittent tuning problem this unit had when we bought it from our customer who we believe was the original owner:

Recapped power supply
Cleaned panel and chassis
Removed, cleaned, lubed memory switch
Cleaned all other switch contacts
Replaced hinge screws
Replaced 2 output jacks
Modified panel overlay to resolve typical sticking switches
Cleaned all IC sockets
Resoldered IC sockets for all EPROMS and all RAM
Replaced several IC sockets
Replaced all operating system IC chips with new ones, latest version (2 for voice board, 4 for CPU board)
Replaced battery
Reloaded patches

This process required 30 hours of highly skilled vintage tech labor plus parts. This one had tricky problems that ended up being due to bad IC sockets. The problems were intermittent - the unit would sometimes work fine but would sometimes malfunction. Those are often the hardest problems to fix because you have to get them to recur. Our typical burn in process after servicing items is long, but in this case, we ran it even longer and shook it up a bit after figuring out and fixing the problem, just to be absolutely sure it was working perfectly, and now it is, so it's ready to make its next owner very happy!"

"Professionally serviced. All potentiometers were cleaned and now work as they should. Muting transistors replaced. Battery replaced. All voices tune up just fine using the onboard autotune function, and this unit sounds amazing and is ready for its new home.

Note: The keyboard aftertouch on this unit and the other we compared it to is imperfect, meaning the response can vary from key to key using its built in keyboard. (This one actually behaved better than the other)"

"The Cheetah MS6 is six-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer in a 1u 19” rack. It was launched in 1988 by Welsh company Cheetah who blazed a brief but glorious trail through the world of music tech in the mid to late 80s before imploding in 1993. The MS6 is based around a fairly conventional two oscillator > low pass filter > dual ADSR envelope architecture implemented on six Curtis CEM3396 chips, one per voice, which were also used in the Oberheim Matrix 6, 6R and 1000.

The MS6 is often compared to the Matrix 1000 because of its similar form factor and circuitry. I can’t comment on how valid that is sonically because I’ve never used a Matrix 1000, but it should be noted that, unlike the Matrix 1000, sounds on the MS6 can be created and edited from the front panel without an external programmer. Although you may wish to add one, for reasons I’ll go into further down.

"A complete (with owner's manual, service manual, case, power supply/interface, modern replacement interface cable) and functional example.

Our keyboard associate in the shop spent a couple hours testing every single key, switch, slider, wheel, pad, etc. (Yes, we pay him to have fun!) His only notes on playing condition: "Switches in modulation section took some working back and forth to get consistent operation. 'EMPHASIS' slider only seems to have audible effect at the top quarter of its travel range."

Bad Gear - The Last Real MC

video upload by AudioPilz

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Today we are going to talk about the Roland MC-505 Groovebox. Is this late 90s all-in-one dance music solution, successor to the Roland MC-303, the last real MC or is it yet another rave music cheese machine? Can it hold up with successors like the Roland MC-707 ???"

TRS Split - CV/Audio signal distributor

video upload by Der Mann mit der Maschine

"TRS Split is a multipurpose CV and audio signal distribution module. It has three 3.5 mm TRS (tip/ring/sleeve - stereo) jacks and six ordinary 3.5 mm mono jacks.

It contains 3 identical sections set up as following:

Upper jack carries the tip signal
Middle jack carries the stereo/dual signal
Lower jack carries the ring signal

Each section can either split a stereo signal into two mono signals or join two mono signals into one stereo signal. The module does not have any active components and does not need a power supply.
