"This is a one off custom Prophet 5 converted into a desktop format.
The keyboard and case were removed, and a new walnut case was custom made. As can be seen the leds were swapped out for blue , which (subjectively) is rather fetching. At this time the other important service was undertaken to prevent the well known failures of the prophet 5, rebuild PSU etc . A lot of care and attention went into this conversion. There would be no point in going to the effort here without overhauling the electronics.

The inside is a stock prophet 5 rev3 complete with 120 programs and factory midi, however factory midi has been disconnected and Kenton midi in installed (there wasn’t much value in installing thru/out since there is no keyboard , but it would be possible to connect these if you wanted to.)

the knob on the rear controls the amount of pitchbend received over midi"

"OBXa in near-mind condition, with Magic Box external midi adapter and custom hard case (orange colour). I say near mint because there's some TINY cosmetic blemishes on the top edge, literally just paint thats been scraped off. No dents, even the paint is still flawless.

many many many hours and $$$ went into restoring the absolute beast of a polysynth. If you think plugins can even come close to this, you've never actually heard one.

-MIDI interface that didnt destroy the case or wood panels ($600USD) ()

-Power supply restored with new capacitors and bridge rectifiers.

-All voice cards completely restored, capacitors (electrolytic and film) replaced, and upgraded with multi turn trimpots.

-Keybed bushings replaced and keys straightened.

-Battery-less storage module installed (synthchaser.com), so no potential for leaky component destroying battery anymore...

Completely calibrated and ready to play. All kinks were ironed out one by one. It is, and I don't say this lightly, the most formidable synth I've ever played.

note - the knob caps are off in some of the pictures for cleaning - they're included :)"

Bad Gear - Nothing is Sacred

video upload by AudioPilz

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world’s most-hated audio tools. Nothing is sacred . After weeks of brand-new direct-to-Bad Gear game changers even hardened internet trolls like me fancy a little palette cleanser.

Today we are going to talk about the original Roland TR-707. This vintage drum machine and digital sibling to the more iconic TR-808 and TR-909 is mostly perceived in one of two ways: a timeless classic for both realistic drum sounds and futuristic 80s house OR the most boring and obsolete cheesebox since whatever Casio came up with back then.

Thanks to Philipp of Feedback Underground Studios for giving me access to his beautiful artifact. Serious requests are welcome to: fbugs@gmx.at

beneath the surface ... Neutral Labs Elmyra 2 ... ambient

video upload by substan

"A first test flight with the Neutral Labs Elmyra 2. I´m REALLY blown away by the dark, beautifully textured und distorted sound that comes out of this little box. The built-in sequencer is a significant part of its charm and makes the Elmyra an inspiring playground.

It's a blessing to get send a great device and the only payment for it is to make music with it, which is just inspiring and fun.

Elmyra runs through Valhalla Room.
Recorded in on take into Ableton.
Mastered in post."

Tristan Arp meets Gliss

video upload by Bela Platform

"This video is the second in a series in which we get Gliss in the hands of artists we deeply respect. A native of the Detroit suburbs, Tristan Arp has been making explorative electronic music for more than a decade. In this video he explores Control Mode on Gliss as a strumming interface for Mutable Instruments' Rings.

Uptempo jam with Midicake ARP, Dreadbox Nymphes, Moog Minitaur, Mother 32, MSW-810, DrumBrute Impact

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

I've had this chord progression kicking around for a little while, the product of a voice-leading exercise I was doing. I was super happy with it but never able to incorporate it into a larger arrangement. Recently, I realized I could just run the chord progression through the Midicake ARP and get some inspiration on the song arrangement, and sure enough, that was all it took (along with a few amazing synthesizers and effects). Really happy with where this one ended up.

Full disclosure: I cut and paste a previous drum fill to the outro drum fill, because I felt the outro drum fill didn't match the quality of the earlier one. Seemed a more judicious approach than recording the whole thing again.

Thanks for listening.

Dirtywave M8 - chord progression sequence
Midicake ARP - four-part sequencing arranger for the chord progression
Kenton MIDI Thru - MIDI Thru out to five devices
DrumBrute Impact through Empress EchoSystem - Drums
Moog Mother 32 through Kinotone Ribbons - Slower mono synth
Michigan Synth Works MSW-810 through Hologram Chroma Console - Faster mono synth
Moog Minitaur through Boss DM-101 - Bass synth
Dreadbox Nymphes through Empress Reverb - Pad synth

Performed and recorded live (minus that small drum edit) to a multitrack recording, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.
