New MIDI Sound & Interface Card for the TRS-80

video upload by Michael Wessel

via Michael Wessel:

"I am building a MIDI sound & interface card for the TRS-80. The idea is to turn the TRS-80 into a capable MIDI pattern tracker and sequencer, and at the same time, add MIDI sound capabilities to it as well. TRS-80 software is still under development, but the hardware is final.

For now, I have a simple drum pattern sequencer - the TRS-80 is sending MIDI data to the on-board S2 Dreamblaster module for sound generation; in addition, MIDI data is also sent to the on-board MIDI DIN OUT socket. MIDI recording and playback of complex MIDI is also possible:"

video upload by Michael Wessel

Some more videos in the MIDI/80 playlist:

"MIDI/80 uses the BluePill STM32 microcontroller and an Adafruit MIDI breakout board for MIDI DIN sockets. MIDI OUT is either to an (optional, plug-in) Waveblaster-compatible sound module (e.g., the S2 or X2GS from Serdashop), or to an external MIDI expander such as the Roland MT-32 or Roland SoundCanvas SC-55 (or to both!)

MIDI/80 will be OpeSource soon, and a Github repo with the PCB Gerbers, BluePill firmware, schematics, BOM, docuemntation, as well as TRS-80 software are in preparation and should be available soon."

Befaco - BANDIT

video upload by Befacosynth

"A spectral processing playground.
Bandit is a fun combination of band-pass filters, VCAs, and routing options.
It serves multiple functions including equalizer, crossover, multiband VCA, 4 band spectral mixer, and spectral external FX insert point.

It allows you to:
Cut or emphasize different frequency bands of a signal, acting as a voltage-controlled equalizer/isolator. Split a sound into four different frequency bands for external processing, and if needed, insert them back Mix four different signals with predefined tone placement in the mix.
Create four different sounds from one sound source by modulating the volume with four different envelopes. Create evolving timbres by modulating one or more frequency bands using LFOs or audio-rate modulation.

Patch notes:
The main melody comes from the Keystep
Even and Pony VCO go to Pony VCF
Percall trigs by Eloquencer in the percussive patch"

Arturia PolyBrute 12 - it's all in the subtle mods!

video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds

"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk

The ability to create ever changing textures and modulations with the PB12 is amazing, the morph function can be used to drastically change the sound, or (like in this case) bring in some additional textures and artifacts and modulations to further develop an ever evolving pad keeping the sound interesting without going too crazy.

I am one for subtle texture changes, ones that feel very musical, and this patch is one I could play for hours.

hope you enjoy!"

Novation Summit | Moog Sub-37 - "Climatic War Engine"

video upload by eM

"I kind of notice my patterns/playing style revolves with a similar sort of routine, this piece would be no different. I think for any musician while its wonderful to play for others, when it is just you, the heart find its home to where the natural just comes to fruition.

I was having a heart moment, in fact it was done prior to recording which I'm sure any of you folks who do such recordings have had those improv palm face moments of not hitting the record button sooner!

None the less, when it's between you and your instrument you can't always escape and tell the universe how its always going to play out, you just have to give into the moment and let it become part of you."

Behringer Edge+Crave Generative Modular Patches No Talk Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"«EC Generative» is a collection of 25 patches (+25 patterns for Crave) for semi-modular synthesizers Behringer EDGE + CRAVE.
⚙️ This genre of sound design is very popular in modular culture, and EDGE + CRAVE provide an excellent set of features to get you started. Controlled chaos, randomness, probability, non-repetitiveness, tempo variations, pattern uniqueness, alternating short and long sounds, unexpected changes, silence and density, harmonic and FX-like tones, freaky splashes during sequences—all of these elements are included in the soundset.

🟪🟨 Get the soundset: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/behr...

Generative timbres can add to or lead in ambient or techno tracks, jams, and performances. You can also record fragments into your DAW or sampler, slice them into one-shots, or create loops to obtain unique material for further processing.

🔮 The main focus of the soundset is a high level of interconnection. In this patchbook, the timbres of the synths are intertwined and cannot exist separately:
🔸 They modulate each other with LFOs and envelopes.
🔸 A sequence from one synth alters parameters on the other.
🔸 Gates and triggers interact to disrupt predictable patterns.
🔸 Audio signals from OSCs may serve as modulation sources to create harmonies/intervals or wild, experimental inharmonic tones.
🔸 They may also be used as audio sources sent to the other synth for processing with its different filter and envelope, giving them a 'second life.'

"Beautiful Yamaha CS30 - we would have definitely called it near mint, except for the fact that the voltage switch (?) has been removed in the back panel, and replaced with a blanking plate. So as it stands this is 100V, and going to need a voltage adaptor for UK / Europe etc.. Ideally a 100V Japanese one for prolonged use, but we generally have no trouble at all using a US 110V transformer for occasional use. Beautiful condition, and thoroughly checked over before this auction. Probably in such lovely shape because it has its original Yamaha hard case, itself in very good condition. The combination is heavy and large, but we are confident we can make a custom carton which will protect everything well: 24GBP."
