"Umbra is a dual channel feedback processor with three discrete transistor core VCA pairs. Route any eurorack-level effects, compressors or filters through its send/return paths to create feedback loops ranging from subtle textured echoes to howling walls of sound. The input level VCA is positioned before the feedback circuit, allowing time based sounds to fade naturally when the VCA is closed. A soft clipping stage after all feedback keeps levels controlled while adding nonlinearities and character. The left-right channel normalling allows for both mono-to-stereo or true stereo operation.

Features:
- Discrete transistor core VCAs for input gain (L and R), VCA pair for return gain, and VCA pair for feedback amount.
- Switchable between stereo operation and serial mono operation, where the output of the left channel enters the input on the right channel, doubling up on feedback and processing, indicated by the color of the LEDs. Orange L and R channels = Stereo operation, Orange L channel, Blue R channel = Serial operation
- Asymmetric diode soft clipping distortion at output.
Level LEDs for input level and return level, to keep feedback, drive and gain under control.

Uses:
- Adding a filter, filter bank, delay, reverb, waveshaper, or any other effect into the feedback loop.
- Heavy soft clipping distortion.
- No input feedback mixing.

"The diy modular synthesizer in a suitcase which Malte Steiner developed between 2024 and 2025. The goal was to build a cheap modular system mainly for live concerts, which is repairable and can go into Checkin Luggage without much worries (something you don't do with Eurorack). So far it is used for several concerts by the projects Elektronengehirn and Notstandskomitee in Berlin and Helsinki, and local Jam sessions here in Aalborg. It is build in a Nanuk 923 case which can remove the lid, the rails are made of wood and wood screws, the front plates are 3D printed.
The system features 2 analog Oscillators / LFOs, one digital oscillator with 6 different modes, an oscillator bank with 6 square waves, triple clock module, 3 slew limiters, a lowpass filter, tone control filter, wave folder, one ring mod / wave folder, 5 VCAs, crossfader, mixer, 2 pressure sensors, a trigger button, unity and gates mixer.

Live coding concert with Steiners own software gravel, augmented with a digital synthesizer he developed 2 years ago and the DIY modular he developed in the last months. "Building a modular system is a tedious and often expensive experience. Just when you think you’ve collected all the modules you dreamed of, you find yourself swapping them out for the next new thing. But every once in a while, you land on an idea that sticks—one that feels so good you might even leave it patched for a very long time. That’s exactly what happened with this small modular case, which I paired with the Digitakt II, Digitone II, and the Elektron Octatrack. The purpose of the case was to give me a sound palette larger than life—something I could play with my hands, not just with voltage or MIDI."
