Publison Infernal Machine + LinnDrum / Jam 1

video upload by Valmont

"Have you ever wondered if a Linndrum could sound... Not like a Linndrum?! Here's a first jam featuring a fully restored one for a client, along with a Publison Infernal Machine reissue, hand-built by my friend Valentin, aka “Vintage Standards” :)

LINNDRUM - This one came with a fun issue: the snare would trigger the side stick, and the toms would trigger the congas. Apart from various CMOS quirks of that kind, I rebuilt all sliders/faders (volume + pan), the trigger buttons and replaced the pots with custom clones made by my friend Manfred from VintageSynth&Co. I also swapped the audio caps for polypropylene ones and rebuilt the power supply. During the process, the CPU card failed so I had to debug the sequencer - turned out to be a bad address latch and a dead bus gate (no idea what caused that). All in all, a serious overhaul!

INFERNAL MACHINE - A very special device. The IM90 was originally designed by French engineer Philippe Petitdemange between 1983 and 1984, with development continuing until the final DSP update in 1989. Publison devices are infamous for their opacity: components were often stripped of references, making repairs impossible. No schematics were ever published or even formally documented, which made the Infernal Machine both exceptionally rare and subject to extreme prices (I’ve seen one listed around 20k€!!!)
Following Philippe’s assassination in 2019, much of the design knowledge risked being lost. Jonathan Prager was designated as the official Publison legacy/maintenance technician and undertook the task of redrawing schematics based on the original archives he bought to preserve these machines. Meanwhile, Valentin, a French expatriate living in Japan, independently carried out his own reverse-engineering and successfully built a true 1:1 clone. His version (named the Celestial Machine) fits the strictest definition of a clone: an exact replica running the original code, featuring a beautifully recreated remote controller and using NOS components throughout ; except for a new OLED display (co-designed with Bob Grieb of TaunTek).
This special Publison-badged unit was sent to me for testing and demonstration to original Publison co-founder D. Dean - more info soon maybe :)

By the way! If you’re curious, I wrote my master’s thesis on Publison, it was published in French (deal with it lmao) : https://www.ens-louis-lumiere.fr/wp-c..."

Autocraft synthesizer 81 model CK-507 - what is it actually?

video upload by organfairy

"I test it with sound at 1:50

I bought this weird box many years ago, but I have never really found out what it is. I don't know why. It turned out to be an unpleasant noisemaker that is apparently build for use in cars. I don't know why anybody would want such a develish device, but on the other hand I don't understand the urge to have 'fuzzy dices' either.

The music is just me carbonaraing on my Elka X-1000 for little over 1½ minute."

The Queen’s Court is Coming to SUPERBOOTH

via Shakmat:

"Superbooth is around the corner and I’m happy to finally unveil the prototype we’re going to show this year.

The Queen’s Court is a new kind of stereo matrix mixer, combining a fully analog signal path with deep digital control — and removing the need for external modulation. Designed for performance as much as for studio work, it brings hands-on control, internal modulation, and preset morphing into a single, cohesive instrument.

At its core, The Queen’s Court offers 4 stereo inputs (configurable as stereo or dual mono), 3 auxiliary stereo inputs, and 4 stereo outputs — all freely routable within a flexible matrix and it embeds modulation directly into the routing structure.

The Queen’s Court integrates 36 internal modulators directly into the matrix.

Per-input panning with LFO-based autopanning
Per-routing-point bipolar envelopes, triggerable via CV or extracted from audio signals
Integrated LFOs on each routing point, with sine and random waveforms, clock-syncable
This enables advanced behaviors such as internal sidechaining, dynamic routing, and animated spatial movement — without relying on external modules.

Designed with an open-ended philosophy, The Queen’s Court can function as:

a self-contained matrix mixer
a performance mixer
a feedback processor
a routing hub for audio and CV
Oh and the system can also be expanded with up to two expanders, increasing the total to:
8 stereo inputs
5 auxiliary stereo inputs
4 outputs
8 CV inputs"

Analog Anonymous | Episode 01

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"In this new series I want to focus on cool sounds without immediately revealing which modules are used. The principle is simple, if you don't like how a module sounds, change something until you do. Back in the 1970's, a Serge panel could do anything - and you'd need to figure out how. Just think of Maths versus a dedicated Envelope Generator or LFO. A swiss army knife versus a specialized screwdriver for a specific kind of screw. The module in this episode feels like one of those screwdrivers and my goal is to explore such a module until it becomes multi functional. It's often not about the gear, everything's been done before. It's about using your modular lego bricks and build something you'd have weeks or months of fun with.

Even though the series is called Analog Anonymous, inspired by the AA and solving bad habits, it can include both analog and digital gear. In this series, 'analog' means 'analogue to air pressure'. Whatever you're using, your ears are always analog. In modular synthesis, your patch is not intended to be sober. We need to be intoxicated by sound while being in the Zone. Very healthy, very Zen. I talk too much. Have fun!"

Kaleidoscope Synth: Study One

video upload by Oscillator Sink

"This is Kaleidoscope by Vadim Minkin.

It’s an instrument I’m in the process of learning, but there’s a lot to learn and explore so while I’m doing so, I thought I’d post a few studies on the way to the “real” video.

It’s described as a Generative Groovebox, but it can take on many different guises, and, as you can hear, this patch is based around drones.

Transparency Notice: Kaleidoscope was sent to me for free for the purposes of making videos, and I am allowed to keep the unit. The developers of the instrument have not been granted, nor have they requested an editorial oversight into the content I make about it."
