Modern Moog Bass - Messenger Filter Modes (no talking)

video upload by Pete Midi

"Moog has defined the synthesizer bass sound for decades. From all Moog mono synths the Messenger provides the widest sound spectrum and in particular, can add interesting variants to the classical bass theme. Here I go through the 4 different filter modes to show the power and flexibility of this synth.

0:00 4P Low Pass
1:35 Band Bass
2:52 High Pass
3:47 2P Low Pass

Recorded with Ableton Live 11 using VISCO and Steampipe 2 (NI Reaktor) plugins for the backing track."

Shakmat Modular Ballista Blast Synth Voice Review

video upload by Molten Music Technology

"Ballista Blast is a hybrid synth voice with classic waveforms, wavetables and some funky FM with multiple algorithms. It has a great filter, useful envelope and lots of CV for modulation. There's also an expander which adds a hardwired LFO that can modulate a whole bunch of stuff simultaneously. There is a tiny screen and some menu diving but it's very playable and sounds pretty awesome to me. Let's have a poke!"

Defect Processor Buchla 289

video upload by Memetune Studio

"A few months ago I managed to snag a Defect Processor Model 289 made by Alex Pleninger (Keen Association) and Roman F

This hyper-rare module adds some appropriately bonkers digital FX to the Buchla 200 series system, by using two independent stereo digital effects units based around the rather interesting Spin Chip platform (it has two of them inside)

The module takes any audio signal and subjects it to various Spin Chip algorithms - there are 8 per section, and they are pre-set on EPROMS on the board behind the panel. The good news is you can swap out the EPROMS and change the 16 algorithms if you so desire, and you can even create your own if you get the Spin Chip programmer

I have a set that includes this insane delay patch. The module has CV inputs for some of the parameters (not many Spin-based products have this facility AFAIK) but here I am playing around with the delay times and feedback levels by hand

I’m also tweaking the 259 timbre, the LPG decay time, and the mix between Noise and VCO, and the Bandpass filter

Crazy sounds and defects abound!"

Why to love the QXG by Make Noise

video upload by Stazma

"Today I'm happy to show you the new(ish) module from Make Noise: the QXG aka Quad Stereo Gate.

I've been a low pass gare addict since discovering them in Reaktor 6 and then throught my Eurorack addiction. My first one was the LxD so a new LPG by Make Noise is always something I love checking out (even tho I passed on the DXG). So today we'll talk about Low Pass Gate, check out how the QXG compare to some classic and available circuits from Make Noise such as the Optomix and LxDn and of course try out some different use case, both inside and outside the New Universal Synthesizer System.

Have fun!!!"

"Probably one of the best examples of the classic Studio 440 anywhere.
Sampler/sequencer/drum machine from Sequential Circuits, circa 1987. S/N 582. The present owner bought this from Wine Country in 2007. It has version 2.30 (SCSI) operating system by Pointsource, 512K RAM, 12-bit sampling, up to 35 seconds sample time (at 16kHz, max rate is 44kHz), 50,000 note sequencer capacity, 8-note polyphonic, stereo audio outputs as well as individual track outputs 1 to 8. And, of course, it has MIDI – very easy to sequence up other synthesizers.

Quite a lot of functionality in a single box and easy to operate. The Studio 440 is fairly rare (about 600 made through 1986, ’87) and considered one of the pioneering forerunners to the later MPC units of the nineties.

This unit is in excellent condition – the cosmetics are very good, with tiny scratches around some of the edges of the enclosure. The main panel paintwork, graphics, knobs and switches are like new. No known issues operationally. Disks load fine, sound configuration, sampling, sequencing and audio all good, menus look normal. Display backlight is good, all hardware good. An easy instrument to get to know and operate, and sounds pretty good for a 12-bit sampler. Includes original manual (NOS from Wine Country), some service data, a number of sample disks, head protector disk (this will have to be ejected following transit) and a survival kit consisting of 8 spare touch pads (unused), two NOS pots, one switch module, one I-624 voice chip. The mains connection is standard IEC socket. The buyer will have to acquire their own mains cord that suits their country and change the internal voltage setting if necessary (explained in the manual. The present setting is 230V).

Weighs 10kg. Unit measures approximately 60x30x16cm (including manual, disks and spare parts). Packaged up, will be maybe 10% larger and heavier. The item is located in New Zealand. Examples of approximate door to door air-freight shipping costs, including insurance, at the time of writing, are: UK/Europe, 300GPB/Euros. USA, $500USD (US tariffs may change at short notice). Australia, $250AUD. Costs to be confirmed upon sale. Importing customs charges and tax are buyers responsibility. You're welcome to find alternative shipping at your expense and risk."
