Cherry Audio | Expressive Sound Design with Andrew Longhurst

video upload by Cherry Audio

"More expressive performance can be achieved through various technologies and techniques such as velocity, channel aftertouch (pressure), polyphonic aftertouch, and MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). These features allow compatible synthesizer instruments and controllers to mimic the subtle dynamics of acoustic instruments.

In this video, musician, producer, and sound designer ‪@AndrewLonghurst‬ demonstrates his approach to expressive sound design, showcased through his collection of presets for Ensoniq ESQ-1 by Cherry Audio. He provides demonstrations of each technique using the new Expressive E Osmose CE MIDI controller and discusses his choices for setting up these advanced modulations in a preset.

These techniques can be widely applied to other Cherry Audio virtual instruments. Be sure to check the product feature listings and documentation to determine which instruments specifically support some or all of these methods. Additionally, consult your MIDI controller documentation, as compatibility for channel aftertouch, polyphonic aftertouch, and especially MPE can vary significantly in this evolving market.

NF-1K First Look: Modor's New Keyboard Synthesizer | Superbooth 2026

video upload by Milk Audio Store

"See the Modor NF1K in action at Superboot 2026. This video provides a close look at the new keyboard version of the NF1 digital subtractive synthesizer.

Marcel from Modor presents the NF1K, detailing the physical integration of the keyboard with the established NF1 synthesis engine.

By watching this demo, you get a clear view of the Modor NF1K build quality and control layout. We focus specifically on the tactile experience of the new keyboard and how the Modor NF1K maintains the core sound generation capabilities of the original unit while adding a performance-focused form factor."

Sequential Fourm | Ambient synth performance

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Please support my work on Patreon: / jayhosking
A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware, with the Fourm at the centre.

The amazing Devin Belanger (‪@devinbelangermusic‬) aka Miles Away (‪@thisismilesaway‬) was kind enough to lend me his Sequential Fourm. Thank you, Devin! If you haven't checked out Devin's amazing channel or his music, please do so!

The Fourm is Sequential's entry-level analog polysynth, as far as I can tell. It has four voices, which is somewhat limited but OK for many circumstances, and sounds (to my ears) as good or better than any other Sequential synth I've personally owned. (Note: I haven't had a Prophet 5/10 and Devin swears by that thing.) So if the sound and a decent workflow are all that matters for you, and four voices is enough, then this thing is a no-brainer.

That said, its main feature is its poly-aftertouch keybed, which allows for you to modulate sounds by pressing into each of the keys. I love polyAT, and the Hydrasynth's polyAT keybed was tremendously inspiring to me. That said, I really struggled to get the polyAT to feel right for my playing. The biggest issue was a discrepancy between how the black keys responded versus the white keys. For the white keys, I could get a great linear aftertouch response, but with the black keys, it would often quickly ramp from 0 to 100 in a way I couldn't control. This could be something I get better at, or maybe it's this particular unit, or maybe it's just an issue with my skills. But ultimately, I found that the polyAT wasn't for me.

The sound, however, most certainly was. This thing sounds amazing. Here, I ran it through the Walrus M1 Mk2 (for auto-panning) and the Empress Reverb (for reverb), and then into the Soma Cosmos for looping. The first half was the more traditional "song" aspect, but truthfully, the second half wandering was my favourite. I could listen to a synth like this all day.

Thanks for listening.

Recorded live to a stereo output, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

when the sequencer starts, anything can happen | live improvisation

video upload by Julian "J3PO" Pollack

"In this video, I set a few sequences in motion, followed them where they wanted to go, and improvised along with them in real time.

Using the Arturia Keystep Pro as the central sequencer, I built a foundation of evolving patterns and then improvised freely around them. The result is a fully spontaneous performance where composition and improvisation begin to blur together. When I perform this way, the sequencer becomes less of a tool and more of an improvisational collaborator.

This is a DAW-less performance. No computer was used in the creation of the performance itself, aside from recording and creating the final mix, including some additional processing for levels, compression, and overall balance.

Thanks for listening.

Intellijel Swells Explorations

video uploads by Intellijel

Playlist:
1. Swells Explorations | X-3: Shadow (No Talking Demo)
This is an exploration of Swells model X-3: Shadow

A classic sounding 'dark hall' reverb. This reverb sounds like a natural space, which makes it perfect for lots of different applications. But of course, being Swells, we can bend it and shape it for some more experimental patches too.
2. Swells Explorations | Y-2: Asterion (No Talking Demo)
This is an exploration of Swells model Y-2: Asterion

Asterion is our 'gateway to the stars' - based on the architecture of a certain digital reverb unit from the 1980s. It brings out the lush sound of the original, but expands its capabilities through the medium of Swells.
3. Swells Explorations | Z-1: Buckets (No Talking Demo)
This is an exploration of Swells model Z-1: Buckets

A matrix of BBD Delays that create a dark, noisy reverb. Oozing with character and grit, this reverb is great for complimenting all kinds of audio material, as demonstrated in these patches.
