4ms QCD (Quad Clock Distributor) Sneak Preview 2

Published on Sep 18, 2013 4mspedals·77 videos

"The Quad Clock Distributor (QCD) and the QCD Expander modules from 4ms Company are an amazing pair of complex rhythm generating machines. The QCD is the perfect master clock, with a tap-tempo button and four CV-controlled Divided/Multiplied clock outputs. All the beat patterns you hear are coming from this module (plus other 4ms gear such as the RCD, SCM, and PEG), using various QCD channels to modulate themselves.

Swing/shuffle patterns are easily obtained by modulating the pulse width of the inverted gate output. The speed-up/slow-down patterns come from modulating the clock divider/multiplication amount (with an LFO and/or another synced clock). Finally, hitting Reset at various times causes phase modulation.

For more information on the Quad Clock Distributer, see http://4mscompany.com"

Tapographic Delay (TAPO) from 4ms Company and Matthias Puech -- Clocked Tapography

Published on Nov 8, 2017 4mspedals

"Demo of forthcoming 4ms and Matthias Puech Tapographic Delay:

The Tapographic Delay is fed with a simple melody from MI Rings. A steady clock from 4ms QCD is fed into the Tap input. Once I am ready to record a tapography, I switch the Edit switch to Add for a while; the added taps line up perfectly, resulting in the classic sound of multi-tap delays. I go on and add more taps, changing the clock multiplication; the repetitions add up into complex rhythmic patterns. Increasing modulation, the taps move around their position: the timing gets more and more sloppy, and we can hear the doppler effect, shifting the pitch of each repetitions up or down, randomly.

Direct take, no additional processing."

New 4ms Quad Pingable LFO (QPLFO)

"Announcing the Quad Pingable LFO (QPLFO)

Four independent LFOs:
Ping input jack
Tap tempo button
On/Mute button (latching)
Skew CV jack and knob
Reset jack
LFO output
LED indicates output level
Timing of each LFO is set by a clock (ping), either external or internal (tap tempo)
Ping button flashes to the incoming ping signal or internal tap clock
Mute/On button mutes the output, lights up when "On"
Skew CV gives continuous transition from ramp-up, to triangle, to ramp-down without changing overall length of curve
Knob provides offset for signal on the jack, or manual control if nothing is plugged into the jack
Minimum setting gives "plucky" curve (psuedo-expo fall)
Full range is 10V, so one LFO channel can be used to modulate another channel's Skew
Outputs can be polar or bi-polar: Jumper selects 0 to +10V (e.g. for driving a VCA), or -5V to +5V (e.g. for modulating parameters)
Reset jack re-starts LFO immediately
Reset changes the starting point of the LFO with respect to ping clock
Allows for easy quadrature outputs
Pressing the On/Mute button can optionally send a reset pulse (jumper must be installed)
Comparators on ping and reset jacks allow for any waveshape to be used for inputs
With an optional ribbon cable, ping jacks can be normalized to QCD clock outputs

12HP, 1.5” deep
Price TBD

Available: mid-April 2013 (watch 4mspedals.com or "4ms Company" on Facebook for updates)"

----------------
Mini PEG features:

Envelope length set by incoming clocks or “pings”

Ping button (tap tempo) or external clock/triggers set the envelope time

Div/Mult knob and CV jack divide and multiply ping clock from /32 to x16

Shape knob with full CV control for waveshaping the output envelope, includes various combinations of exponential, linear, logarithmic and interpolated curves

Cycle button and gate jack for looping envelopes

Scale knob acts as attenuating inverter for main envelope output
Maximum 9.5V peak-to-peak

Offset knob for setting DC offset, ranging from -9.4V to +9.4V

End-of-Fall (EOF) output jack goes high when envelope finishes a fall portion and low when envelope begins a fall portion

Jack can also be configured as End-of-Rise, Half-Rise, or Tap Clock Out

ENV OUT jack outputs scaled/offset envelope

5V ENV jack output always produces a 0V to +5V envelope, independent from scale/offset

4ms Looping Delay - Karplus-Strong Synthesis

video upload by 4ms Company

"How to create a Karplus-Strong synthesis (aka Waveguide synthesis) patch using the Looping Delay. The Sampler is used as a sound source to create bowed metal, plucked string, and exotic alien lead sounds.

The Looping Delay is a clock-based delay for creative synthesis. Not a tape or analog emulation, but a modern crystal-clear digital delay, the Looping Delay combines features of delay, looping, and sample-tight synchronization for powerful and dynamic sound capture and modification. Based on the Dual Looping Delay, the Looping Delay offers the same high-quality sound in a smaller, single-channel format. Available now as a pre-built module, or as a DIY Kit."

4ms Listen Modules & Battery Powered Pod Setup

Published on Feb 19, 2019 4mspedals

"Create a small but ultra flexible system for music production using Pods and Listen modules from 4ms Company.
The Listen IO module is your interface between Eurorack and external gear. Here we use the Listen IO to connect a KORG Volca Beats and Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator into our Eurorack system made of two Pod32's and a Pod20. Two headphone jacks on the Listen IO let you and a friend listen along in stereo.
At the end of the signal chain is a Listen Four, which mixes up to four signals in stereo and outputs to headphones and line level. A bigger version of the Listen Four is the Listen Four Quarters, which has 1/4" (6.35mm) balanced TRS outputs.

The entire setup is being powered directly from a Krisdonia laptop battery using our standard DC barrel cables, and offers hours of continuous low-noise use."

Listen Four

The Listen Four is a four channel stereo mixer with line, modular, and headphone outputs. Two mono channels with Pan knobs and two stereo channels with dual inputs provide optimal compatibility with both stereo and mono signals. The Listen Four can be daisy-chained to other Listen modules to create a larger mixer with sub-mix outputs.

Portland Synth Library

Did you know there was a "synth library" in Portland, OR? Well, there is. Some details on it follow, but before that, they are seeking funding on GoFundMe here. This one is in via lord zool.

"S1, in partnership with 4MS Company, is home to the Synth Library, a publicly-accessible resource in Portland, Oregon. Since spring 2016, the Synth Library has hosted regular workshops to educate and empower new people and communities to engage with modular synthesis.

After attending a sliding-scale introductory workshop, participants can sign up for open library hours to access any of the modular rows and other gear available in the space. A facilitator will always be in the room to help answer any questions that come up during your exploration.

The Intro to Synthesis course (or an equivalent competency exam) is required before gaining access to the Synth Library; this course costs $25 and includes one month of membership. Monthly membership is $15. Scholarship opportunities are available for those unable to pay.

We’re committed to representing and empowering all types of people and providing the opportunity to learn comfortably from and alongside peers. To this end, we offer female/non-binary-only courses, as well as open enrollment courses available to all.

Artists-in-Residence at S1 will have the opportunity to check out gear from the library to compose and perform pieces. We will begin accepting applications for our residency program soon.
