"Yamaha DX200 Return of the Funky FM Beats! 2017
Synthesizer demo by Rik Marston 100% No Talking!
**Watch in HD!!** **Turn this UP!!!!**

The incredible Yamaha DX200 is back in full force,
adding a little ACID TB-303 love and some intense
Industrial beats & grooves in this video demo.
Audio was recorded a little bit lower than last time
to avoid any clipping but there is some slight
clipping @ 01:01 & 01:41. So be careful my friends!
Such a fun groovebox to tweak, just a BLAST
to shape the sounds on the fly & get everyone
excited on the dance floor!!!
Yamaha, we could use another groovebox
or Loopfactory like this again, especially with
the new FM-X technologies of the Montage.
It's now 2017. How about it??

Thank you for watching!

Throbbing Gristle unique Gristleizer clone

via this auction

"here's the original description from the creator. "ONE OF A KIND handmade and modified TUBEGRISTLEIZER. The gristleizer was an effect made famous by throbbing gristle which was played by everyone in TG and can be heard on many throbbing gristle recordings, live performances and is still on their solo recordings. The circuit itself is a fairly loud tremelo(VCA)/squelchy filter(VCF) under control of an lfo. The VCA gives you that dark brooding pulsing sound from a slow steady blast to helicopter fast chopping action. with guitar it can sound bassy or razor sharp and rather piercing, with synths it gives movement and can alter harmonic content. the VCF can scream when in self oscillation mode and turns any boring synth or feedback loop tone into a nice sounding near modular beast! The LFO on the original gristleizer was slightly different, using a switch to change waveshape, the LFO on this circuit uses a pot to alter wave shape from ultra chopy to sloped triangle.saw shapes. This is the signature sound of industrial music! HEAVY pulsing and throbbing beats or lighting fast chop chop! In addition to the gristle circuit, the effect also has a HI VOLTAGE (200v+) tube preamp/distortion for completely destroying the sound. the circuit was lo fi at first but now its plain garbage! By turning up the gain for the preamp the sound ranges from light harmonic clipping to a blown speaker blasting away. I take no responsibility for damage to amplifiers or recording equipment. SPECS: * tremelo/filter switch * self oscillation switch * tube power switch * LFO shape Control * LFO speed Control * LFO Depth * Oscillation Frequency Knob * Tube Gain * Tube Input Level * 1/4" Mono Input and output * powered by dual 9v and 120vac Here's a link to a video http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2007/04/gristleizer.html Please be aware that the original came with some sort of glass bulb contained in the circular housing visible on the front of the unit. This was broken in transit when I bought it, all the glass was cleared from the unit and this does not effect the sound. If purchased in the UK I will provide a 230V adaptor at no extra charge. Please see my other auctions for similar items you might be interested in."

Conn Electric Band

images via this auction

"Rare 1973 Conn Electric Band... It had some real low end on the sub selector. Great cheesy drum beats. Ranges from Waltz to Teen beat. Great preset sounds like Harpsichord, Space Junk, and Blast Off. Also has an adjustable section. This thing was used on the Moog Cookbook and you can find sound clips of it on the internet. It has 2 great reverbs as well. It weighs a ton."

Update via BugBrand in the comments:
"I'm just about to meet up with Roy Gwinn (literally in a couple of hours time) who wrote the original article back in the 70s for Practical Electronics magazine (he was 16 when he published it!) from which the Gristilizer came.

If you're interested, Clone Analog Gear have a pdf of the article::

http://rubidium.dyndns.org/cag/

http://rubidium.dyndns.org/cag/pdf/gep.pdf

It was published as the Guitar Effects Pedal."

Update via Chris Carter in the comments:
"My original Gristleizers were based around the PE kit (PCB & components) produced by Phonosonics in the UK in 1977. I've never made any secret of this, and in fact for a while had the PE schematic on my site. However, I added some mods of my own and designed a completely new case and made units for myself, the band and friends, probably about 10 in total. Cosey's still works to this day but mine was unfortunately 'lost' shortly after appearing in a exhibition in London a couple of years ago. I'm going to upload some photos of an original Gristleizer to my site soon and I'm currently in the process of building myself a replacement.

original Gristelizer photos and additional info now available here: www.throbbing-gristle.com/gristleizer and/or here: myspace.com/chemistrylessons"

miniMusic BeatPad driving a Voyager and 909

Update2: Moogulator put up a post on this. The funny thing is that I completely missed the irony in the shot - a mighty knob ladden Voyager being driven by a tiny pda. Too funny. Thanks Moogulator!

Update: I should note that everything in the samples is being triggered by BeatPad - I am not using the 909 sequencer. Also you can sync to BeatPad, so I could have the 909 running its own sequence, synced to BeatPad and have BeatPad sequencing another synth though the 909 via the 909 MIDI through.

I just posted about the miniMusic MixPad. That post actually came about when I was setting up this post. I was playing around with BeatPad driving a Minimoog Voyager and a Roland TR-909 and I thought I'd put up a couple of samples and a link to miniMusic. When I checked out their site I found the new software. That aside... Title link takes you to a couple of samples and shots. Note that these samples are a bit long, daft and don't fully showcase what BeatPad is capable of. I was just dinking around. BeatPad has a super intuitive UI. There is one page for your main lead and one for your drum machine (pictured above - click the shot to see the individual parts). You can mute and solo different sounds on the drum grid and you can mute either the entire lead or drum section. In the lead section you can mute notes, adjust the length of the pattern , gate time, velocity, transposition and tie notes all on the fly. It's a blast to tweak things live. There are four things I wish it had - support for driving multiple lead sequences driving different MIDI channels at the same time (basically multi-track live sequencing), the ability to sequence MIDI CC independent of notes for things like filter, resonance and other modulations, the ability to save sequences, and the ability to flip back to saved or "sanp-shot" sequences. To clarify when you edit one of the 64 sequences available, the edits remain when you close out, so in that sense they are saved, but once you edit one there is no way to go back. I beleive you are supposed to just use a new track, but when you have multiple tracks previosly saved it can be painful remembering each track. Hmm... Add a fifth item - the ability to name your sequences for saving. Regardless BeatPad is pretty amazing - there is just something super intuitive in using a stylus to control your sequences. Believe it or not, it beats the pants off of a bulky knob box. I'm still in disbelief that a Pocket PC MIDI device/cable for external sequencing has not yet hit the market.

What's up with that?
