Korg Volca FM Edited by Patch Base for iPad

Published on Apr 27, 2016 Coffeeshopped

iTunes: Patch Base - Coffeeshopped LLC
Note Coffeeshopped LLC also makes an extensive MIDI Sysex file manager: Sysex Base - Coffeeshopped LLC

"A demo of Patch Base on iPad being used to design sounds for the Korg Volca FM. All sound is being created by the Volca FM, and controlled with Patch Base."

Note the Volca FM does not yet support realtime editing so what you are seeing are the edits being sent as patch dumps, hence the pause you hear after every edit. Note this is a limitation of the Volca FM and not the editor.

Spotted this one on the excellent discchord mobile music site.

"Patch Base is the best collection of patch editors and librarians for a growing number of hardware synthesizers, and version 3 is a major update: adding new features including full undo support and patch bank backup and editing for most of the synths that Patch Base supports. New KORG Minilogue Editor for Patch Base

via coffeeshopped

"Patch Base 2.5 is now available, and with it comes an editor for the Korg Minilogue. Now you can visualize any patch on your Minilogue, as well as edit all synth and sequencer parameters. Fetch patches from your synth, create new patches from an init patch, or create random patches to discover new sounds. And as always, you can store your entire patch library on your iPad, and organize it into folders. For the next several days, the In-App Purchase for the Minilogue editor is 50% off.

The top half of the editor shows all of the synth's voice parameters, while the bottom half gives controls for editing both notes and motion sequencing data, complete with copy, paste, randomization, and initialization functions. You can create your own sequences in the editor itself, or use it to perfect a sequence you recorded while playing the Minilogue itself."

Coffeeshopped Releases Reface DX Editor for iOS and Mac OS

via Coffeeshopped

"The latest updates to Patch Base (iOS version 3.17 and Mac version 1.11) bring an editor/librarian for the Yamaha Reface DX. Released in 2015, the Reface DX is an updated take on Yamaha's many classic 4-op FM synthesizers. People seem to most often compare it to the DX100, which is true in terms of its form and number of operators. But the Reface's updated feedback options give it sonic flexibility closer to that of the TX81z, with its multiple waveform options, or the DX21 and DX11 with their pitch envelopes. And in today's vintage synth market, you can get the Reface DX at about half the price of the DX100, which makes it a very attractive portable, high-quality FM synthesizer...

The patch editor shows all of the parameters on a single screen, with the usual Patch Base FM visualizer to let you see the structure of your patches. You can also copy/paste envelopes, or complete operators to make patching easier."

New Yamaha FS1R iPad Editor For Patch Base

Yamaha FS1R Voice Editing with Patch Base

Published on Feb 7, 2018 Coffeeshopped

via Coffeeshopped, makers of Patch Base:

"Patch Base 2.10 adds an editor for the most complex FM synthesizer I've ever encountered: the Yamaha FS1R. This thing is a beast. First of all, it has 8 operators for FM synthesis! Imagine the possible chaos. And, each operator has both a "Voiced" and "Unvoiced" part. The Voiced part is your tone generator (similar to the DX7), and the Unvoiced part is essentially a noise generator with its own envelopes, frequency controls, and bandpass filter. The Voiced part also supports multiple waveforms (the FS1R calls them "spectral" forms), including a formant generator. Basically, you can make this thing sound like it's talking. It is hands-down the most amazing FM synth I've ever used, and I've only begun to scratch the surface of sound design with it.

And starting today, FS1R owners can go deeper with this synth, too. Like the FS1R itself, this editor was the most complex FM editor I've created so far. The current algorithm (out of 88 possibilities!) is shown in the top left, and also serves as the selector for which operator you want to edit. Each operator shows the output levels of the voiced and unvoiced parts of the operator, which helps give an overview of the structure of the patch. With 8 operators, a lot of patches won't even use all of them!.."

New Patch Base Editors for the Access Virus TI Snow, Virus TI, and Virus C

via Coffeeshopped:

Back in November, friend of Patch Base Stefan George (who helped with the MKS-50 and DW-8000 editors) contacted me asking if I'd like to borrow a Access Virus C and Virus TI Snow in order to make editors for them. I gladly took him up on the offer.

December and January were mostly eaten up by fixing bugs and improving performance in Patch Base, not to mention avoiding other viruses, so it wasn't until the end of January that I actually got to work with these synths. And they are complex! Then February came, and almost a week of that month left our home without electricity (and heat) due to the worst winter storm Texas has seen in my lifetime. But now here we are in March, and the new Access Virus editors are here as well.

The Virus is the best-sounding virtual analog synth I've heard. And the TI line in particular has the most parameters I think I've seen! The modulation capabilities and the deep effects sections of the synth are astounding. The editors Patch Base now offers capture all of that depth in a compact form for quick access to any part of the synth. Below I'll go in-depth with the Virus TI Snow editor. The Virus TI editor (which also supports the TI2) is almost identical, with the exception of offering 16-part Multis rather than the TI Snow's 4 parts."

Casio Releases CZ Synthesizer for iPad

Published on Jan 21, 2015 iPadMusicCom. Short user demo from iPadMusic.Com

iTunes: CZ App for iPad - CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD.

Note this is the full blown synth from Casio and not the CZ Touch editor from Coffeeshopped LLC.

$20 for a full blown Casio CZ.

"【Recommended model】iPad mini 3、iPad Air、iPad Air 2

This app reproduces the functionality of Casio’s best-selling CZ-series models, such as the CZ-101 (first released in 1984), and also includes new functions. Featuring a built-in 4-part PD (phase distortion) sound source, its 36 waveforms are capable of generating an extensive and diverse range of sounds. The created tones can also be played on MIDI-compatible instruments.

======The PD sound source system========
Phase Distortion (PD) works by distorting a sine wave when it is read so that various different waveforms are produced. At the time, it was a ground-breaking system for generating waveforms other than simple sine waves.

----- An extensive parameter set to allow richly varied sound creation -----
Two block configuration systems are provided for each of the DCO, DCW and DCA

・ WAVE FORM (DCO1/DCO2)
Parameters to set basic waveforms.

・ KEY FOLLOW
One Key Follow feature (DCW1/DCW2) controls waveforms based on the upper
and lower extent of the keyboard's register while the other Key Follow feature
(DCA1/DCA2) controls the envelope duration based on the keyboard's register.

・ DETUNE/LINE SELECT
CZ-series synthesizers allowed users to choose from 4 types of line output
(1, 2, 1+2 or 1+1) depending on the purpose. Using 2 DCOs allowed the use of
detuning to fine-tune the pitch shift in the two systems to within ±4 octaves, which
is useful not only in creating a chorus effect, but also for producing sounds with
specific harmonics emphasized.

・ RING/NOISE MODULATION
Ring modulation can be used to produce metallic tones that include non-integer
harmonics,
while noise modulation is effective in creating percussion-like sounds.

・ ENVELOPE GENERATOR
An envelope generator is provided for each DCO, DCW and DCA core block in the
two systems, which makes it possible to vary the tuning, tones and volume over time.

-----Play along to your favorite audio files-----
You can use the keyboard to play along to audio files on an iPad.

-----Multi-play mode combines keyboard layouts toallow new ways of playing
The new performance interface lets you can combine 2, 3 or 4 keyboards, or even flip the layout so that other people can play along with you.

-----Supports external MIDI instruments and inter-app collaboration-----
・Inter-App Audio
・Audiobus compatible (input only)
・Playable using an external MIDI keyboard(via a third-party MIDI interface, an Apple Lightning-USB camera adapter* plus USB cable, or the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit* plus USB cable)"
