Thoughts on Erebus V3

Published on Nov 17, 2018 Tim Shoebridge

"With this video I basically share my initial thoughts on the all new Dreadbox Erebus 3 and also walk through its basic functions. There is a lot to cover so this video is split into two parts, this is Part 1 with Part 2 to follow very soon."

Update:

Thoughts on the Dreadbox Erebus v3 (PART 2)

Published on Nov 24, 2018 Tim Shoebridge

"Here is the second instalment of my look at the Dreadbox Erebus v3. In this video I compare the filter to the Erebus v2 and also look in detail at the synth's "Triple Ring" modulation circuit."

3 for the v3 - Dreadbox Erebus Patch Examples

Published on Dec 8, 2018 ProckGnosis

"Just 3 patch examples for the Dreadbox Erebus v3, including 1) vibrato, 2) sample and hold, and 3) percussion. All 3 examples use the mod wheel to control the amount of the modulation, but offer significantly different results.

3 for the v3 - Erebus Patch Examples
1. Mod-wheel control of vibrato depth (02:57)
2. Sample & hold modulation of the filter cutoff using the mod wheel (06:10)
3. Percussion sounds (10:05)

And yes, the intro music is 100% just the Dreadbox Erebus v3."

Synth Jams by Jay Hosking

Published on Jul 26, 2019 Jay Hosking

Spotted the first video in the playlist above on discchord.com. The Playlist contains 21 videos. You can use the player controls to skip around. Descriptions for each are below. All videos feature various gear so you should be able to get an idea of some of the capabilities of each featured. You can check out Jay Hosking's music at https://jayhosking.bandcamp.com/.

Note, more will likely get added over time. The following playlist is as of this post:

1. Jam w/ Vermona PERfourMER MkII, Elektron Analog Rytm MkII, OTO Bam, Styrmon Big Sky, Fugue Machine
A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by some pretty tough news that has me sentimental.

I loved the Elektron Analog Four MkII so much that I picked up the Analog Rytm MkII. My feelings on the Rytm are mixed. On the one hand, it's missing that spontaneity and spark of units like the Arturia DrumBrute Impact and Teenage Engineering OP-Z, with no readymade performance effects, roller bar, or global randomization, and a slower workflow. On the other hand, I really like its analogue sound engines, any unused tracks can be converted into impressive analogue mono synths, it does beautiful things to samples, and like all Elektron boxes it integrates the effects into the sequencer really nicely.

As for the Vermona PERfourMER MkII, I'd been pining over it for ages, and it was fun to finally tinker with it. The Perfourmer definitely excels in the mid- and high- range, and I love how the independent voices making really interesting voices for chords.

Vermona PERfourMER MkII + OTO Bam — Three synths (left chord note, right chord note, melody)
Vermona PERfourMER MkII + Strymon Big Sky — Bass chord note synth
Elektron Analog Rytm MkII — Drums, samples, sample melody, punchy bass
Fugue Machine (iOS) — Sequencing
IK Multimedia iRig Pro Duo — MIDI out from iOS

Written and performed within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little sidechain compression on the Perfourmer (to emphasize the sound that the Rytm was already making), and compression/limiting on the master.

Dreadbox Erebus v3 Filter Sweeps

Published on May 13, 2018 ProckGnosis

"Just some quickly executed filter sweeps on the new Dreadbox Erebus v3 I was able to record at Superbooth 2018 (plus a boatload of extra footage just screwing around with it). The new Erebus sounds great, and once again it shows how Dreadbox just keep building on their ideas. This has plenty of the original Erebus DNA, plus a touch of the Abyss, Nyx, and even Murmux v2 heritage as well.

Some of the big advantages this has over the original Erebus (v1 or v2)?
1. Extra (3rd) Oscillator
2. Mixable LP/HP filter
3. More modular patch points
4. Frequency Modulation
5. Loopable envelopes
6. Cool triple ring effect"

Dreadbox Erebus 3 "Floating Matter" 50 Massive and Deep Patches

Published on Nov 26, 2019 LFOstore

"Welcome to the soundset for a fantastic synth, Dreadbox Erebus V3, made by Chronos and Anru.
Several months ago we took the synth for a test and we fell in love with it immediately.

So we decided to create the soundset to express our passion to Erebus.

BUY: https://sellfy.com/p/b0caxr/

The bank consists of 50 patches:

10 Bass
16 Leads
8 Pads
10 Plucks
6 Sequences

As the synth is fully analog, there’s no way to save timbres.
The only way to share the patches is a «classical» cookbook, a catalog with images of the patches.

Also, you get an audio file, demo for each patch, in order to listen to the way it should sound if the patch is recreated correctly.

Moreover each page of the catalog includes notes that help you to create the patch or give the ideas of how to tweak it after it’s done.

Each patch includes modulation via ModWheel.
This gives an opportunity to control expression of the timbre and morph the sound between different states.

The patches are of different level of complexity.

Some are quite simple, musical and suitable for many purposes.
Some are pretty tricky and will delight the experiments lovers.

The heart of the synth is its patchbay.
For creating different kind of timbres up to 6 patchcords were used.

Make sure you have at least 6 patchcords to recreate these patches."

"One of the 120 limited editons of the Erebus V3, sporting the awesome 80s colours of their Hypnosis multi-effect box. This unit is complete (adapter, wristband, card), but comes without the original box, as I used a friend in the US to get this across the Atlantic. I also bought 10 pink patch cables that go beautifully with this unit, which are included in this offer.

I bought this synth quite impuslively at the start of the pandemic, as I wanted something new to play with, and I really dislike the regular version's color. I jumped on this unit when I saw it for sale, but then, a few weeks later a somewhat affordable MS-20M crossed my path and I haven't touched this Dreadbox ever since. I don't think I even made it past 10 hours of playing time. It has no signs of use. Everything is in perfect condition. As you can see in the photos, the power supply can be changed to fit either a US or European socket."

Dreadbox Erebus v3 Desktop Duophonic Synthesizer w/ Original Box

Interesting and honest listing description?: "I've had the Erebus for less than a month, and I've spent maybe few hours with it. I spend more time with my other synths, and I just don't get the Erebus (specially the third oscillator). In any case, I rather spend the money on synths that I do enjoy."

OSC 3 looks like where things get interesting with multiple waveforms to chose from, FM, range all the way down to LFO, and a level knob to adjust how much of it you want.

Dreadbox Erebus V3 Berlin School, Dark Ambient

video upload by goth jocks

"First contact with the V3. Definitely not as immediately compelling as my Erebus Reissue, but I haven’t even really patched anything yet.

This jam was mainly just to make sure it worked. Came used from Guitar Center which is always a little iffy (like when they sent an SP404 with the wrong power supply)"
