Techno Jam with TR-909 and Moog DFAM

video upload by Honeysmack

"Short improvised techno jam with a focus on the Moog DFAM and TR-909. There was a little additional modular stuff thrown in, although I can't remember what I used! Mixed through a Playdifferently Model1 DJ mixer with an Eventide Space for some reverb."

RD-8MkII + TR-808 + TR-08 Improvised for 8:08 Minutes

video upload by Honeysmack

"What does a Behringer RD-8 MkII, Roland TR-808 and TR-08 sound like when performed together. What can you do with 3x 808s that you can't do with one? Maybe this video simply highlights that I may have a slight gear problem with the 808, but in a good way? Why do I have multiple 808s? I dunno I’m definitely that idiot!

All 3 drum machines are mixed via a Playdifferently Model1 mixer with effects from Eventide Space and Timefactor pedals. No other sound sources used (Octatrack and Analog Rytm used for sync purposes only, not as an audio source). All improvised in one experimental unrehearsed take.

Behringer Introduces the RD-8 MKII

video upload by Behringer

"In our constant pursuit for perfection and authenticity, we proudly introduce the new RD-8 MKII, the most authentic analog recreation ever produced.

This drum machine has been re-designed from the ground up with carefully selected components and circuitry, which have dramatically improved the sound of the voices as well as noise and phase response across both the main and individual outputs.

Most importantly, our engineers - together with our Coolaudio semiconductor sister company - successfully recreated the 40-year-old BA662 chip, which is instrumental for the authentic voices of this instrument.

We’re proud to deliver the most authentic and accurate analog drum machine recreation ever produced.

We Hear You.

List Price: $329 (in stock and immediately shipping from our factory)"

Behringer RD-8 MkII Review by Honeysmack
video upload by Honeysmack

"He is my first review of the new RD-8 MkII.

This video is not a tutorial or a detailed feature run through. As a live Acid Techno improvisor and performer for almost 30 years, I wanted to go through some features I loved and how the RD-8 MKII builds on the spirit of the TR-808 with some nice new sound enhancements and sequencer/performance features. Behringer have said they redesigned some of the key components in an effort to get an authentic 808 sound. The firmware has also been revised.

03:01 How does it compare to the original?

08:57 Sequencer/performance functions overview

11:33 Note repeat
12:00 Randomization
12:39 Probability
13:23 Flam
13:51 Conclusion
14:37 RD-8 MK II outro jam

All audio was recorded without any pre/post processing whatsoever, all audio is coming directly out of an old Mackie 24•8 mixer with no EQ. What you are hearing is as raw as possible, with no embellishments.

We all know the 808 sound and it’s hard to not to know it these days as this legendary drum machine has informed a variety of electronic dance music genres from Hip Hop to pop music. Owning an original TR-808 is a rarity these days, I purchased mine over 20 years ago at time before prices went crazy. These days owning vintage drum machines and synths are the fare of privileged people, like old men with ponytails collecting vintage guitars. The RD-8MkII is great riff on the original. The new additions such as filter, wave designer, tuning on the kick, clap offset and the added sequencer features make a great drum machine. I applaud Behringer for producing an affordable, like-for-like clone. This gives more people access and it can only promote more music making! Hope this video provides some insight into this new machine.

Disclaimer: I was a beta-tester on the RD-8 MkII although I do not work for Behringer and they have nothing to do with the making of this video."

The Boring TR-909 vs RD-9 Comparison Video We Didn't Need to Have!

video upload by Honeysmack

"It's the video we didn't need to have, but here it is — a very rough comparison of the TR-909 and RD-9 performing the same pattern over and over again, be warned its rather boring. This is not an attempt to go through the detailed features of each, just a quick 1:1 comparison for all those who have been asking for it. Signal path is a mono out of each drum machine into an old Mackie 8 Bus mixer, recorded dry.

These days it seems there are more 909 experts than actual 909s, with opinions divided over what is an authentic 909 sound.... boring and ahem...why does it matter, why is it a competition?! These experts tend to overlook the sequencer, that is an essential quality of any hardware drum machine! For the rest of us, the RD-9 is awesome and I think it does a great job of emulating the original TR-909 with some clever new additions, but shhhhhhh no one will ever know the difference, except for maybe you know who (they'll be easy to spot in the comments section below). 😂 ðŸĪĢ

Sorry for the blurred parts of the video, there were some experts that could not show their faces because they felt the shame of not actually owning a 909. Now the cat is out of the bag!! It's okay they have gone back to the safety of their screens to assert their misinformed opinion onto others. Here's wishing them well, I worry sometimes... 🙃 😘

For those experts who are angry, unsatisfied or take issue with this video, please call into your nearest Internet Cafe as you might be eligible for a refund for watching this video and please accept my insincere apology. ðŸĪĄ ðŸĪŠ 😜

Disclaimer: I was a beta-tester on the Behringer RD-9 and I do not work for Behringer, nor do they have any input into the making of this video.

Thanks for watching 😀

TR-909 + TB-303 meet the RD-9 + TD-3

video by Honeysmack

First 8 minutes with the Behringer RD-9: Raw Techno Jam

video by Honeysmack

"First 8 minutes with the RD-9. All sounds are exclusively from the RD-9. Totally raw, improvised and unrehearsed Techno jam, nothing too serious, just throwing as much as I can at it, so please wipe away your tears before you get upset.🙃

Sounds great, very playable and performable. Feels nice and the new features evolve the original 909 sound and sequencer.

Now please don't go asking how it compares to the original, unless you are doing a high-school science project that you need answers in order to impress your classmates.😁 I'll have a 1:1 comparison of sorts for the Techno elitists very soon with my TR-909. FYI: Every TR-909 sounds different because each one is processed differently on different recordings by different producers!"

Acid Dub: real-time composition for ACMC2020

Honeysmack

"This piece was composed for the Australasian Computer Music Conference 2020, online event July 3-11 2020:
https://acmc2020.com/

This performance extends the stylistic parameters of the genre of Acid through a Dub Music approach by slowing the tempo down and making use of spatial audio effects such as delays and reverbs to create further density. The performance makes use of 3x 303, consisting of an original TB-303, a modified TB-303 (Devilfish) and a recent clone the TB-03. The iconic TR-808 drum machine provides the minimal drum pattern. This performance was recorded in a single take with no predetermined arrangement or form, all composed in real-time with no post production.
