New Synth Gear and Makers in January 2015

After this year's massive New Years post, I thought it might be interesting to see how many new makers and new gear announcements we received in a single month.

This may or may not become a monthly theme on the site depending on interest.  If you think it's worth while, leave a comment.

At a high level we had 12 new makers, one new old maker previously never featured on the site, and a whopping 193 new synth related products. Check out the module list below.  The list is a combination of what was either announced or released this month.

The list in order of appearance:

KOMA Elektronik Komplex Sequencer with the Korg Arp Odyssey

Published on Apr 23, 2015 KOMA Elektronik

"At Musikmesse 2015, we took our Komplex Sequencer on at tour around the hall. We teamed it up with Korg's new Arp Odyssey synthesizer and had a jam! One sequencer controls the pitch, another the cutoff, while the other two control sequence start point, transpose, and gate length of the other sequencers."

Arjen Schat | Sequential Session: Komplex Sequencer

Published on Oct 29, 2015 Arjen Schat

"Complex patch with the Koma Komplex Sequencer controlling a Doepfer Dark Energy and Moog Little Phatty. I start with a simple scale on A and modulate its transpositions with a sequence on B. C and D both have a short sequence but the CV and gate are cross-mixed whilst a similar transposition modulation applies.

KOMA Elektronik Komplex Sequencer: Using Repeats

Published on Jun 29, 2016 KOMA Elektronik

"A detailed look into the Repeat functions of the Komplex Sequencer: setting and turning off repeats per step, normal and ratcheting repeat mode and sequencing the number of repeats with external CV. We've created a dreamy cascading sequencing with an Arturia Microbrute through a Moog Analog delay pedal combined with additional sequence-on-sequence action with the Division, Repeat and Skip Step CV Inputs of the Komplex."

Arjen Schat | Sequential Session: 20171122

Published on Nov 22, 2017 Arjen Schat

"New album "Spectrum" out now: http://tresordargent.com/td-01/.
After a 18-month hiatus, a brand new Sequential Session with the Koma Komplex Sequencer + 2x Moog Mother-32 and Doepfer Dark Time + Energy, accompanied by the Moog Animoog on an iPad Pro.

There is a timing issue with Koma's sequencer C after the 1:17 mark caused by its voltage clock. Also, the first couple of notes I play are not timed well. Other than that, enjoy!"

KOMA Elektronik Komplex Sequencer - MIDI Jam

Published on Dec 4, 2015 KOMA Elektronik

"In this video, we hook up the Roland TR8, Access Virus C and Korg Volca Bass for a downtempo electronic trip.

Sequencer A controls the Virus C, while Sequencer D controls the Volca Bass. The Komplex is slaved to the TR8's MIDI clock. The skip step mode is used on the Volca Bass to vary the bassline. Meanwhile, ratcheting repeats are added to the Virus C's pattern to create unique rhythms. The gate length and output range also change."

In The Koma Studio: Blush Response

Published on Jul 15, 2015 KOMA Elektronik

"Earlier this month, industrial techno artist Blush Response dropped by the KOMA Elektronik studio combining his live eurorack rig with our Komplex sequencer and other gear. Joey Blush has been on the modular scene for a while now working on everything from sound design to industrial/ebm to techno. His last 12" just came out on aufnahme + wiedergabe moving towards an even more dance-oriented sound but still never leaving behind his ability for immense atmosphere and dark melodies.

KOMA Elektronik: Poltergeist Tutorial

Published on Apr 6, 2016 KOMA Elektronik

"In this video, we go through each feature of the Poltergeist Analog Quadraphonic Audio Mixer. From inputting a signal and controlling it with the VCA, panning around 360 degrees, solo and mute functions to stereo and quad modes, auxiliary inputs, slope control, and gain CV controls. The main synthesizer sound is a Malekko Anti-Oscillator through the KOMA Elektronik SVF201. The envelope is from a Doepfer module. The kick drum is courtesy of a Bastl Tea Kick followed by the Roland TR8. All synced and controlled by the Komplex Sequencer."

"The KOMA Elektronik Poltergeist Quadraphonic Mixer / Panner / VCA can also function in stereophonic mode with a flip of a switch. With an array of eurorack modules and the Komplex Sequencer for example, the Poltergeist is able to throw sound from left to right and in between while functioning as a quad vca and mixer module."

Mutable Instruments Stages - Easter Egg - Harmonic Oscillator - Full Accompaniment

Published on Dec 12, 2018 isvisible isinvisible

"The Mutable Instruments Stages has a fantastic Easter Egg, a Harmonic Oscillator.
There's no secret button combo or anything like that to remember, just use the provided cable that came with it and join the two sets of 3 pins on the back of the module.

I've made another video of this patch, but just using the Stages and doing a quick demo, here: [below]

Arpeggio melody: Mutable Instruments Stages
Single high notes: Mutable Instruments Braids
Drums: Simmons SDS 8
Percussion: Folktek Matter
Bassline: Livewire AFG"

Mutable Instruments Stages - Easter Egg - Harmonic Oscillator - Quick Demo

"Patch notes for this quick demo:
CV: Koma Komplex Sequencer
Gates/Triggers: The first 3 inputs from the left are steady triggers from an ALM Pamela's Workout.
The last 3 inputs are from an Iron Ether Pithoprakta which has it's looping turned on and off to create random, then locked in patterns.

There's a bit of clipping in the video caused by me having the input to the camera turned up a touch too much. Div."

Koma Komplex Skip Step Demo II (a different setting)

Published on Apr 6, 2018 Martin Doudoroff

"At the risk of redundancy and confusion, here’s a different experiment using the skip step jack to advance the phasing between two simple sequences. In this version, the first Mode setting on sequencer B is enabled so that phasing advances are not temporary—this is a more typical phasing arrangement than in the previous demo. (I got confused by the documentation, which gets the settings backwards.)

Sequencers A and B are connected to basic VCO/VCF voices; this time, I’m lazily using Sequencer C for a simple bass line (gate only—pitch is recycled from Sequencer A). Everything is clocked by a Gatestorm. The Gatestorm is also generating the gate to trigger the skip step."
