Jordan Rudess plays the Megawave, Obie One, CATO, and Triptych from Syntronik 2

Jordan Rudess plays the Megawave modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2
video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Megawave. The Megawatt features the powerful wavetable synth sounds of the original Waldorf Microwave, a classic digital/analog hybrid. The Microwave was the heir to the PPG Wave legacy with its sweepable digital wavetables and Curtis chip analog filter. The unit we recorded is the most coveted Rev A version."

And a few more:

Jordan Rudess plays the Obie One modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Obie One. The Obie One is our recreation of the innovative Oberheim OB-1, excellent at creating classic and fat sounding bass, pad and lead sounds. The new 4-pole slope in our O-Type state variable filter model in Syntronik 2 now captures the distinct difference between the 2- and 4-pole filter sounds of this excellent hardware synth."

Jordan Rudess plays the CATO modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the CATO. The CATO captures the distinctive analog sounds of the Octave Cat SRM and its SSM filter. The pure-analog tonality of this synth is huge, and its modulation capabilities allow for truly unique and stylized timbres. Able to create gigantic Moog-style basses, the CAT can also go in its own sonic direction with its clever oscillator sync implementation."

Jordan Rudess plays the Triptych modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Triptych. The Triptych is based on the warm sounds of the classic Korg Trident with its separate synth, string and brass sections. The Trident was basically a 2-oscillator Korg Polysix combined with a convincing string machine with dedicated ensemble chorus and a paraphonic brass synth. It is a beast of a synth capable of a wide range of classic analog synth and stringer sounds."

Korg Trident

video upload by rimela

"Multitrack recording of the Korg Trident from 1980. There is no midi and limited CV control, so this is pure hard labour jamming those keys. And it is a real joy to play this majestic synth. It’s mostly praised for its haunting strings and pads, but in my opinion it is also extremely suitable for solos, to which the very expressive joystick makes a huge contribution. The built-in flanger is a real bonus. All sounds in this video are from the Korg Trident, except for drums (Roland R8, Boss DR-110 and LoopLoft). There is a trigger input for the Brass section and CV input for the filter, which both are used in the second half."

KORG TRIDENT - Sounds, Patches & Presets | Analog Synthesizer Demo

video by synth4ever

"Korg Trident (MK2) synthesizer sounds and patches demo. This Korg Trident synth demo features a variety of custom sounds, presets and patches including pads, plucks, bass, strings, brass, percussion and more.

The Korg Trident is a versatile analog 3-part synthesizer that excels at layered sounds. The combination of synthesizer, brass and strings sections + flanger allows for some unique tones and timbres when all sections are used together.

In this demo I created a number of custom patches as well as presets from the Korg Trident MK2 manual. Despite having somewhat limited functionality, the synthesizer section has some decent sound design capabilities. While the Korg Trident excels at lush pads, it can also do more traditional sounds as well as unique resonant tones.

Hope you enjoy this Korg Trident MK2 sounds and patches demo."

Korg Trident - 1980 Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer

video by Perfect Circuit

"Originally produced at the dawn of the 1980s, the Korg Trident is an 8-voice, polyphonic analog synthesizer with three distinct, programmable sections. The Synthesizer, Brass, and Strings section can be dialed in to your liking, and then layered together for complex patches or assigned to split sections of the keyboard for totally independent parts. Each section of the Trident certainly has its own sonic identity, so crafting pads, basses, leads, and other sounds becomes easier after spending some time to learn the strengths and features within each section. There’s also a global Flanger effect which can be assigned to one of the three sections, great for building washy pads with the Synthesizer or Strings sections.

In this video, we show off a handful of the lush, vintage sounds that can be coaxed out of this classic synthesizer. The Trident is certainly an instrument that rewards playing its keyboard, while engaging and tweaking the different sections as a performance element. We also showcase some of the Trident’s external CV inputs with a small set of Eurorack modules, expanding the instrument with more complex modulations than what is possible within the Trident alone.

Yamaha SK-30 | Dreams in Prague

video by MIDERA

follow-up to this post

"Day 2 I think. Well, third day. I mean - technically I got it on Friday? So spanning 3 days, but less than 24 hours. Anyway.

Maybe this was more fun to play than it will be to listen. Only way to find out is to see how many little smiters come out to smite me with their dislikes. They're cute.

Monosynth - Ok, that's the part of this that I think really makes this instrument stick out. I mentioned in my previous video (or the comments) - the SK-20 just doesn't seem that interesting, since it contains everything minus the monosynth. The SK-50 has, what, a second keyboard? Crazy. That seems huge. And apparently it lacks the mixer section... but that must be wrong. I can see it in the photos. Anyway, it's too big. The SK-30 is too big too, but it's got a cool look to it.

Where was I? The Monosynth section, yes. Ok - aftertouch on the monosynth is really fantastic. I use it here with "brillance" which like, opens up the filter? At least that's what it sounds like. Really really love how it sounded here. It was also mixed with the organ and sometimes strings to make it stand out.

I like playing a nice 'pad' sound on the lower octaves and then use the mono part for a lead, because I'm not a good keyboardist and couldn't use the monosynth for bass - although it would be wonderful with that if I was capable. Others are no doubt.

I had a lovely conversation with someone about the Yamaha SK-30 versus the Korg Trident, a synth I have longed for for quite a while. The Trident wins as a polysynth because it has 8 voices, each able to articulate with the filter (it has 1 filter per voice, unlike the SK-30 which has 1 filter for all voices). Still - they seem different, the two synths. The SK-30 with it's monosynth for leads on top of pads, seems like it makes sense to me. But obviously, given the two, I'd go for the Trident. If only because it looks cooler, but also I suppose because it has MIDI kits available and that polysynth section seems worth it. Anyway -

Monosynth. That to me is where this shines. I probably would have (within days) gotten rid of the SK-30 if it weren't for that 1VCO SOLO section.

Now, if only I could figure out how to make it sound in tune when using the Analog keys to sequence that... Right now, it works, but it's waaaaay out of tune. Maybe I'll figure it out some day.

Korg Trident Mk1

MrFirechild

"Here is a track using sounds only from the Korg Trident Mk1 from 1980. A very cool machine combining a fully programmable and real eight voice polyphonic synthesizer with a divide down section with brass and strings. Built in Flanger completes this classic synthesizer. From being somewhat forgotten in the early 2000 it is now pretty sought after with its great sounding SSM filters.
The track is called Open Your Eyes.
