Arturia MicroBrute SE Demo - 15th anniv.

"Arturia MicroBrute SE Demo - 15th anniv."

Update and the official press release:

"Arturia makes colourful analogue waves with massive-sounding SE edition of miniature MicroBrute

'This mighty little machine runs the gamut from metallic, brutal bass to velvety bleepy, bloopy goodness — sheer joy to play. The single oscillator is wildly diverse — wait ’til you meet the Metalizer and Ultrasaw, and I love the SEQUENCER and MOD MATRIX — very inspiring!'

- Tara Busch (I Speak Machine, 2014)

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: music software and hardware company Arturia is proud to announce availability of MicroBrute SE — a ‘special edition’ of its widely-acclaimed MicroBrute Analog Synthesizer, available in a choice of three tempting colours to suit whatever playful mood might make anyone’s musical day, be it Christmas or otherwise — as of October 15...

Arturia’s award-winning MiniBrute Analog Synthesizer rapidly reset the price/performance ratio benchmark when soaring through the subtractive synthesis sound barrier upon being launched in 2012 to much critical acclaim and subsequent success. Afterwards, Arturia built upon that success last year when introducing a ‘special edition’ of its namesake sibling, the MiniBrute SE, sharing the same physical footprint, but building upon this amazingly compact and bijou analogue monosynth in both looks and features. That same year, Arturia adventurously took the ‘shrinking synth’ concept one step further with its equally big-sounding little-brother, the MicroBrute Analog Synthesizer, an even smaller semi-modular monosynth with inbuilt step sequencer, boasting MIDI, USB, and CV connectivity with a whole host of unique features — guaranteed to bring big smiles to go with those massive sounds! Similarly, today the MicroBrute has been given the ‘special edition’ treatment to become the MicroBrute SE — same physical footprint and full feature set! So what’s with those colours? Blue, orange, or white, they all sound the same... that is to say, sounds massive. But who’s to say you can’t make a bold style statement with a massive-sounding synthesizer, however small it may be? Thanks to the colourful MicroBrute SE, now you can!

But beneath those colourful, compact and bijou bonnets resides a living and breathing, fully-fledged analogue synthesizer that belies its diminutive dimensions and is actually anything but basic. For starters, just like its MiniBrute SE bigger brother, the OSCILLATOR that beats at its musical heart features SAW, TRIANGLE, and SQUARE waveforms that are all mixable to help shape the resulting sound without the limitations imposed by comparable contemporary and vintage synths alike. Additionally, the new Overtone oscillator generates additional harmonic content, ranging from one octave down to a fifth above the base OSCILLATOR pitch, while the Sub > Fifth control can continuously sweep spectrum. Moreover, Metalizer adds complex harmonics to the TRIANGLE waveform for creating harsh, harmonically-rich sounds, while Ultrasaw adds a lively and bright ensemble effect to the SAWTOOTH waveform — perfect for crafting sounds suited to dance anthems. And let’s not forget the all-important Pulse Width control for creating nasal-thin tones or rich square sounds. Simply speaking, never before has such a small, single-oscillator synth sounded so big... or looked so good!

Of course, filtering helps shape any analogue synth’s sound — be it big or small, and here the MicroBrute SE definitely does not disappoint. Indeed, its distinctive-sounding Steiner-Parker FILTER plays a big part in helping give the MicroBrute SE a unique sound — again, just like its big brother. This filter design dates back to the Steiner-Parker Synthacon, an analogue monosynth built by the namesake Salt Lake City-based synth manufacturer between 1975 and 1979. Its HP (high-pass), BP (bandpass), and LP (lowpass) modes make for far more filtering flexibility than that found in synths many times the price! And that’s before factoring Arturia’s acclaimed Brute FactorTM into the musical equation, adding anything from subtle overdrive to full-blown intermodulation havoc — choose your settings, and let the fun begin!

Speaking of having fun, the eight-Pattern step SEQUENCER is an almost endless source of inspiration and rhythmic creativity — step input notes and rests to create storable sequences that can be played back and switched between on the fly at a variable Rate or synchronised to external MIDI clock. Meanwhile, MIDI, USB, and CV GATE connectivity, of course, combine to ensure that the MicroBrute SE is ready and willing to talk to the outside electronic musical instrument world, wherever it may find itself. It’s even blessed with an external audio Input with an adjustable Input Level control, so why not use it to process whatever you feel like sticking into its 1/4-inch socket — within reason, of course!

The front panel-mounted MOD MATRIX moreover allows adventurous users to control many aspects of the MicroBrute SE’s massive-sounding single voice for different internal sources, as well as controlling them via external synths and modules. MicroBrute SE comes complete with two stackable jack cables for that very purpose. Preset sheets also come as standard, so no need to worry about forgetting those adventurous sound settings!

With a space-saving 25-note mini-keyboard and weighing in at only 1.75kg, the MicroBrute SE is as compact as it is colourful, yet positively punches well above its weight with a rip-roaring analogue sound spanning woofer-flapping bass, screaming leads, ear-opening effects, wave-folded growls, punchy drum sounds galore, and much in-between and beyond. Pick one — or even all three — up from an authorised Arturia dealer or retailer today! To make this perfectly portable package even more portable, Arturia has helpfully included a stylish carry bag guaranteed to turn heads wherever the stylish synth goes. Go ahead. Make a bold style statement while making a massive sound!

A ‘limited’ run of 4,000 MicroBrute SE units are available for purchase in a choice of three tempting colours through Arturia’s global network of dealers and retailers for €329.00 EUR/$329.00 USD.

Arturia Officially Announces MicroBrute - Press Release

"Arturia makes massive analogue splash with miniature MicroBrute

'I really love the sound of the original MiniBrute, and the MicroBrute’s got that character and can be even wilder. You can get all kinds of crazy and musical interactions going on with other analogue gear and drum machines. Combine the two together and you’re rocking!'

- Adrian Utley, 2013 (Portishead)

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: music software and hardware company Arturia is proud to announce availability of the MicroBrute Analog Synthesizer — an amazingly compact and bijou, semi-modular analogue monosynth with inbuilt step sequencer, boasting MIDI, USB, and CV connectivity, together with a whole host of unique features — as of October 25...

Arturia’s award-winning MiniBrute Analog Synthesizer rapidly reset the price/performance ratio benchmark when soaring through the subtractive synthesis sound barrier last year to much critical acclaim and subsequent success. Today it is joined by its equally as big- sounding little brother, the MicroBrute Analog Synthesizer. Putting all the basic building blocks of an analogue synth classic into an even more compact and bijou package that’s pure hand-ons fun at an affordable price, the MicroBrute is guaranteed to bring big smiles to go with those big sounds!

But the MicroBrute Analog Synthesizer is actually anything but basic. For starters, just like its big brother, the OSCILLATOR that beats at its musical heart features SAW, TRIANGLE, and SQUARE waveforms that are all mixable to help shape the resulting sound without the limitations imposed by comparable contemporary and vintage synths alike. Simply speaking, never before has such a small, single-oscillator synth sounded so big!

Of course, filtering helps shape any analogue synth’s sound — be it big or small, and here the MicroBrute does not disappoint. And that’s before factoring Arturia’s acclaimed Brute FactorTM into the equation, adding anything from subtle overdrive to full-blown intermodulation havoc — choose your settings, and let the fun begin!

Speaking of modulation, the easily accessible, front-panel mounted MOD MATRIX is a Volt per Octave-standard patchable system of modulation routing with ENV (envelope) out, LFO (low frequency oscillator) out, Ultrasaw modulator in, PWM (pulse width modulation) in, Metal (Metalizer) in, Overtone/Sub modulator in, Filter cutoff in, and Pitch in — meaning more in-depth, inbuilt sound-sculpting possibilities, as well as allowing Arturia’s own MicroBrute to be easily brought into the interfacing mix, or mixing and matching with third-party modular synth systems for far-out sonic explorations! Dig as deep as you need or dare to go with the MicroBrute!

Similarly, the new eight-Pattern step SEQUENCER is an almost endless source of inspiration and rhythmic creativity — step input notes and rests to create storable sequences that can be played back and switched between on the fly at a variable Rate or synchronised to external MIDI clock. Arturia MicroBrute Analog Synth Demo

Published on Oct 24, 2013 SourceDistributionTV·69 videos

"Skip to 4:07 for Sounds, 8:23 for Sequences, 11:39 for Drum Processing! Questions? Read on:

MicroBrute is NOW SHIPPING TO THE UK & IRELAND. ORDER NOW AT A DEALER HERE: http://sourcedistribution.co.uk/deale...

With an RRP of £269 inc VAT, Arturia's new MicroBrute is a crazy deal for a musician who wants an immediate, hands on analog synth with sequencer, modular flexibility and tons of character. Alex from Source Distribution UK puts it through its paces in a hands on video.

Why is MicroBrute such a big deal? It packs an insane amount of features for the price into a very small package, and with a character that's properly its own.

It's got an (up to) 64 note sequencer (with tap tempo!) so you can program and loop complex melodic ideas on it (with rests), and you can use that sequencer to sequence other analogue gear (and while the sequencer doesn't output MIDI - the keyboard, via USB, can be used as a convenient little DAW master keyboard with velocity - and obviously you can send MIDI INTO it). You can advance the sequencer using an external analogue gate source, or use the sequencer gate out to drive other analogue gear (rests do not output a gate, which can be cool if you want to output irregular gate patterns). You can transpose the sequence in real time using the keyboard, MIDI, USB and CV - that's fun done live as you see here.

It's semi modular so you decide where to apply the LFO and ENV. You can drive up to about 4 CV destinations using those outputs (without signal drop) and you can send CV to multiple destinations with any old headphone splitter as Alex mentions (it doesn't have to be some special type). This would mean you can use the MicroBrute ENV and LFO to send to external analogue gear, to a MiniBrute for example! You can also try putting them into the expression inputs of compatible guitar pedals to add modulation. Or of course to your modular!

You can use the audio input to expand the oscillator section. Want to add a noise generator to help make snare drums etc? Stick the output of a tiny portable radio tuned between stations into the audio input and off you go! Tune it TO a station and remix Miley Cyrus! Well, maybe not that. One super cool trick is using your computer, running a sample of your voice, or a softsynth with the filter fully open, and making it so that both the MicroBrute and software are being triggered at the same time and the same pitch (perhaps by the MicroBrute's own keyboard, that's easy to do) - you can detune the external source and it becomes a two (or two hundred) oscillator synth. To be honest though with the complexity of the inbuilt oscillator (it can sound HUGE), you may not even need to. Notice a tiny sneak peek of an external analogue modular oscillator being added at 0:30

At some points in the video you can see some red cables with 'pass-throughs' built into them being used, these are TipTop Audio 'Stackcables' (not included sadly - but you do get the two small orange patch cables!)."

"MIDIBrute - A universal application to configure Arturia Mini and Microbrute synthesizers.

Stuttgart - July 16, 2015 - Available for iPhone and iPad today, MIDIBrute is a universal iOS replacement for Arturias 'MiniBrute Connection' and 'MicroBrute Connection' applications which are only available for Mac and windows. MIDIbrute allows to configure the devices in a more convenient and mobile way. This includes features like Bend Range, Hold feature, Midi Channels, Step Size and so on. MIDIBrute also allows to send a MIDI Clock signal for easy sync with other devices.

Overview:
MIDIBrute is a companion app for the Arturia Mini and MicroBrute analog synthesizers which allows full control over all of the device's software only features. Previously a desktop PC was required to change any of the synthesizers internal settings, with MIDIBrute all of this can now be accomplished using either an iPhone or iPad. MIDIBrute is perfect if you're using a mobile setup only and try to avoid using a dedicated Mac or PC.

Features:
* Direct access to all internal synthersizer settings
* Universal Application
* Send separate MIDI Clock signal to the synthesizer in order to synchronise the clock in case no sync mechanism is in place.

The configuration set depends on the connected synthesizer:

MicroBrute:
Keyboard Parameters: Note Priority and Velocity Response
Sequencer Control: Hold, Sequence Retrigger, Next Sequence, Step on, step divider
Midi Channel Select: Transmit Channel, Receive Channel
Module Parameters: LFO Key Retrigger, Envelope Legato Mode, Bend Range, Gate Length, Clock Sync

"I am currently preparing a liveset with BURG, set to June 13th here in Kuala Lumpur.. and while playing, in somewhere around the third variation for the set i make a really dreamy and epic sound on the microbrute using the strymon timeline ICE algorithm.. and this melody (totally unrelated to the BURG liveset) pops out of my head.. so i grab my zoom q4, point it on the microbrute and start recording.

Sorry for the crappy video quality, low light.. close upm weird angle etc, but all my other cams were not setup so i had to take what i had nearby.

I sort of sense this melody has a twin out there.. but what the heck, its my ode 2 the microbrute. Lovely little synth, dont you agree?

Gear used, Microbrute SE + Strymon timeline (if you hear any hiss sounds, thats all the other stuff turned on but didnt use/mind shutting off)

cheers!"

Minisizer-MicroBrute-Party :D (w/ Volca Beats & MicroGranny 2.4) #TTNM

Published on Jul 19, 2016 The Tuesday Night Machines

"Lured the Arturia MicroBrute out of its hiding place to patch it with the Anyware Instruments Minisizer :D

The Volca Beats clocks the MicroBrute, which sequences itself and the Minisizer. Some of the Minisizer's audio is fed into the MicroBrute as well, but other than that, the instruments are sent into a mixer separately. The MicroGranny 2 is played manually.

Audio gear used:
- Anyware Instruments Minisizer (mini analog modular synth)
- Arturia MicroBrute (analog monosynth with sequencer)
- Bastl Instruments MicroGranny 2.4 (granular sampler)
- Korg Volca Beats (drum machine)"
