Thanks to Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers’ new temperature-stabilised, dual-VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) oscillator core, the analogue audio engine of the Microvolt 3900 feeds a set of timbral wave-shapers carefully crafted for deep harmonic shaping, allowing a layer of additive synthesis alongside the classic synthesis waveforms. Waveforms are fed into the binary filter, a custom state-variable filter architecture allowing for near-infinite resonance — with or without self- oscillation. Sonically speaking, this creates a juicy, fluid filter, adding depth and energy to the oscillator that can capably scream on demand!

I used CVToolkit to control two inputs of the General CV. Input 1 was mapped to control the reverb level of the preset, this was modulated by using a LFO. Input 2 was mapped to control the cutoff scale, this was modulated by using a LFO also.

Soundtoys Echoboy JR, some chorus for stereo widening and some eq to boost mid frequencies.

Microvolt 3900 Through Thyme Delay

"We wanted to test out the new Pittsburgh Modular Microvolt 3900 and the Bastl Thyme, so we figured we should make a video with both of them together. The Microvolt 3900 is a semi-modular synthesizer with a single oscillator, wavefolder, filter and VCA with dynamic response, as well as an LFO, function generator and ADSR for modulation. The Bastl Thyme is a digital delay which isn't a tape emulation, but is modeled after a tape delay, a kind of digital tape. The Thyme also has "robots" which can modulate many of the settings on the machine.
