Anciana SD032 by Tonylight of LepLoop Featuring the Arpopone+Multicassa+0coast
English translation below.
(Tonylight, 2020)"
Googlish:
"Last summer in the mountains I recorded about 90 live songs, like jazz but electronic improvisation, let's say, using two of our lep instruments: 3
Leploop Multicassa and a Harpopone, plus some effects. I purposely limited myself in the set up to stay more focused and creative. Then in late 2019 I asked my friend Philippa Nicole Barr to make a selection of the 90 tracks. Australian freelance journalist from Sydney based Wire that I met in Milan in 2012 for an article on the Milanese experimental music scene, Philippa seemed to me the most suitable person to help me in this impossible selection, also stimulated by his distance from Milan.
So Philippa selected 5 \ 7 tracks, I suggested another pair and in the end we kept 6.
Philippa suggested that I title the tracks with some names in Italian because more particular, exotic sounds would be played abroad.
So I found the names of some edible wild herbs that are collected in Val Trompia, where I have the house and I have finalized the tracks. Anciana is the name of an edible wild herb in the Valtrumpino dialect.
Then Philippa asked her Australian sound friend to do the master, David Matthew, an electronic music producer who also calls himself B.I.N.T.
Then I asked my friend Judy Rhum if she wanted to think about the cover. Barnaba liked everything so much that, besides making it come out for his label Sangue Disken, he also made a video for the song 'Farinel', all shot from his mom's home window, where he is blocked from the beginning the lockdown caused by Covid-19. The (R)evolution of Multicassa
Pictured: three iterations of the Multicassa in via leploop. The Multicassa is inspired from the Trautonium. You can find additional details here.
"The Multicassa is a full analog electronic instrument composed of tree Cassa (bass drum) generators controlled by an analog Trautonium like rhythms generator, without a microprocessor, available in desktop and euro rack format.
The term Trautonico is inspired by a vintage instrument, the Mixturtrautonium, invented by Oskar Sala musician, a student of Hindemith, which elaborate it, since the 30s on the basis of another instrument more simple, the Heimtrautonium, manufactured by Telefunken in the '20s, one of the first electronic instruments for the living room.
Early versions of Mixturtrautonium use as frequency dividers the Thyratron(a type of gas valve that could be used to build oscillators and frequency dividers), these dividers acting on the notes producing subharmonic that could be mixed (hence MIXTUR) for produce complex sounds, the same principle is used here with two differences:
- The valves are replaced by solid-state trigger circuits.
- Dividers act not to the notes but on the rhythms, by dividing a basic rhythm (clock) for a variable number (with the command Clock Divider) rhythms are then mixed 2 by 2 (Trig Mix) generating a complex poly rhythms.
- An output mixer allows you to adjust the volume of each speaker.
Each Cassa has a pitch, resonance and distortion control, the tree Cassa generators have different pitch range:
1_Low(Cassa), 2_Medium(Bongo\Tom), 3_High(rim shot\wood block).
The high channel can produce some scratch noise when you move the frequency pot, because the circuit design and the very high pitch, this is normal.
The clock can be generated internally or applied externally through jack on the left side of the unit.
The Multicassa accepts any type of clock pulse or square wave of 3-12 volts amplitude, with any polarity including the Midi clock, as long as the midi line is present only midi clock and no other messages (notes, control changes, sysex, etc.) ."

LepLoop Arpopone Specs & Details
Some details just in via LepLoop. Be sure to see previous posts for demos.
"The Arpopone AKA HARP'O'PHONE is a melody/bass line generator with a chord and rhythmic section, available in desktop and eurorack format.
It is based on analog ramp divider, similar to those used for the Multicassa which are inspired to Oskar Sala's Mixtur Trautonium, an early electronic musical instrument, each divider generates a voltage ramp starting from a master clock (internal or external) a potentiometer is used to set the number of steps and thus the division ratio with a minimum of 1 there are ten of such divider in the different sections of the instrument:
- 2 for the rhythmic section (trigger pulses 1 and 2)
- 2 for the scale generator, these have a ramp output that forms the melody line
- 6 for the audio dividers, the 2 prescalers are chained with 4 note dividers, one for bass and 3 for chords
A further divider comes into play if external clock is selected, in this case the BPM control acts as a clock divider making possible the synchronization with other instruments (at maximum speed divider=1)

'S Gone - CALC- Novation Circuit controlling 0-Coast, ARP 2600, Leploop and a ton of other stuff.
Published on Dec 7, 2016 -CALC-
"This is a bit of a monster set-up. Circuit is controlling everything and it's a huge chain of events.
The track found its way into two parts with a huge pallette of synths at the beginning and a Leploop psyche odyssey jam at the end. not without it's errors but it was a jam.
Gearwise:
Circuit's MIDI output is feeding a Hotchki55 Banana split 6 way MIDI thru.
That in turn is feeding MIDI to a Roland Juno106, Korg Poly61M, Make Noise 0-coast, Leploop… oh the lovely Leploop and (using the fantastic Hotchki55 CVOCD MIDI to CV converter) the Multi Cassa V2 is being triggered by Circuit’s Drum 3+4
A nice thing is using the 0-Coasts MIDI B CV and Gate output to control the ARP2600 from Circuit’s Synth (MIDI) 2 sequence. Having the ARP sequenced from Circuit is a massive joy!
Circuit’s synth 2 track is actually sequencing the Juno, Korg, ARP and its own Circuit sound towards the end.
Synth 1 is controlling the Leploop and 0-Coast sound arpeggiating notes from MIDI 1 but with a trigger from the CVOCD for a bit of rhythmic interest.
All the stuff is running through the strymon Big Skies and TimeLine and the Circuit takes a slightly dizzy spell through the amazing Rodec Restyler.
The Strymons really PSYCHE this out towards the end of the track.
Of course the is a heavy helping of Leploops Cassa and noisey hats throughout and the incredible new Multicassa V2 is just sublime. Especially triggering it from a sequencer… there is a lot more to come with this little wooden box.
So there is the set up… as I said it’s monster but everything used is totally being controlled by the two MIDI channels of Circuit, with some percussion and triggering added by Circuits sample drum tracks. The Leploop, 0-Coast and MultiCassa take their midiclock from Circuit too.
Just goes to show what you can do with two midi channels and 4 drum tracks and a midiclock output."

LEPLOOP MULTICASSA DESKTOP RHYTHM SYNTHESIZER
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"All Analog . Very Cool Synth . The Multi Cassa Desktop consists of three drum sound generators and four clock dividers which sequence the drum sounds. It can be clocked internally or from an external input to sync it with other synthesizers or clocks. Each sound can be triggered from two of the internal clock dividers simultaneously with their own individual velocities. A mix/crossfade knob controls the level of the clock divisions which then trigger the drum sounds. Each sound source has a control knob for Mix, Frequency, Resonance, and Distortion. Resonance can be used up to self oscillation, turning the multicassa into a three oscillator drone bank. When the external clock input is being used, the BPM knob becomes a master clock divider.
Features
Smart phone sized rhythm generator
Three independent drum voices
Controls for Mix, Frequency, Resonance, and Distortion for each of the three drum voices.
Four internal clock dividers
Each drum voice can be triggered by two clock different clock divisions
Individual clock velocity controls for accents and dynamics
Clocked by internal clock or by the External Gate input
