"While not copying originals, some of the features were taken to a better point. Continuous blendable multimode filter (HP-Notch(BP)-HP in 12 dB mode and 4-1 pole in 24 dB mode). 32 and 64 bit versions included.

OB-Xd is based on the Oberheim OB-X. It attempts to recreate its sound and behavior, but as the original was very limited in some important ways a number of things were added or altered to the original design.

The OB-Xd was designed to sound as good and as rich as the original. It implements micro random detuning which is a big part of that sound. However, it was not designed as a self-contained completely independent soft-synth. It needs to be contained within a VST framework where things like transposition, automation, layering, arpeggiation, etc., are available.

Also, like many synths of the OB-X's generation, the OB-Xd has no internal effects so its sounds and textures can be greatly enhanced by the use of additional processing like chorus, reverb, delay, etc."

The OB-Xd is a synthesizer that has been designed to recreate the sound and behavior of the Oberheim OB-X. However, the original design of the OB-X was limited in some ways, so the OB-Xd includes a number of additional or altered features. discoDSP Takes Over Ownership of OB-Xd

You might remember the OB-Xd from this previous video. It looks like discoDSP has taken over development.

Before some years, Soshi Studio developed this Synthesizer Plugin (PC, MAC, Linux) and released for free in all the communities. Now this great plugin has a new home. OB-X Based VSTi OB-XTREME, OP-X & OBXD OSC & Filter TEST

By popular demand...let's do a basic comparison of the OSC and FILTER sound of those OB-X based VSTis, as nobody seems to read products specs and details..

No insert, nothing on the master bus, just the VSTs, same settings.

I have been used all at some point and they are all good, I will quickly showcase what the differences are and why OP-X, OB-XD and OB-XTREME have each their nice peculiarities.

IMO:
OP-X PRO is really good for lush PADS because it features interesting modulations the other don't have.

OB-XD is free (which is a point :) ) and feature a really nice clarity and top end the OP-X can lack while sounding warmer.

OB-XTREME have a simpler 'hands on' approach with far less functions and features but it provides 2 analog saturation stages before and after the filter and a FAT mode which makes it growl in a way the others don't.
It also feature 8 separate outputs so you can have 1 channel per voice in your DAW if you want :)

Basically I needed to have the "essence of the OB Sound" not the full feature list, mainly that huge analog wall we all love.

That is why I made OB-XTREME in the first place, in you liked the OB-X you should have them all :)"

SoundForce Introduces SFC-OB Class-Compliant Boutique Oberheim OB-Style Hardware Controller

"The SoundForce SFC-OB is a class-compliant boutique USB MIDI controller dedicated to OB-style synth plugins.

Features
With 37 rotary pots, 41 switches and 45 LEDs, you can finally control your virtual instrument in an instinctive and fun way. Create better synth sounds easier and improve your overall experience. A couple of extra “USER” controls are available to be freely assigned to additional parameters, for example Reverb size, Delay time, DAW FX sends levels. etc… The controller sends out standard MIDI cc messages and can be used with any software that is MIDI-mappable. A web-based control panel app allows the user to change the cc messages number for each control, change the MIDI channel and load the different plugin modes.

Plugin modes
Although the controller can be used with any software that can be mapped to MIDI CC messages, the SFC-OB has been specifically designed to work with the most popular OB-style synth plugins. Set the controller to the right plugin mode using the control panel. This will ensure that every switch on the SFC-OB is fitting the plugin used as well as possible. Build quality
The controller is assembled in The Netherlands with parts from Europe and Asia. It is built to last and withstand intense usage on tour and in the studio. SoundForce has an excellent track record for its controller line, with many units built and very little registered issues and repairs. The enclosure is made of 100% sheet metal and is manufactured by Grawart (http://www.grawart.pl). The case is made of bent steel and powder coated in black. The front panel is aluminum, also powder coated and screen printed with scratch-proof white and blue ink. Walnut wood side panels of 8mm thickness are fitted to both sides of the controller. On the electronics and firmware side, the controller is powered by the same STM32 Cortex-M micro-controller platform used successfully in previous products, insuring a very high level of compatibility with different computers and DAWs. The devices have been even used successfully with iPads.

2-way/1-way communication
As with previous controllers, users can enjoy 2-way integration using the latest Arturia OP-Xa V. This means that the controller interface can be updated when presets are changed in the plugin, when plugin instances are switched or even manually on demand. The controller even accounts for discrepancies between a plugin pot-position and a controller pot-position, and implements pick-up or smoothing modes to avoid juming values. This allows for an improved and tighthly integrated workflow. Other traditional 1-way MIDI CC mapping is available for the brand new GForce OB-X, SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II, DiscoDSP OB-Xd and Synapse Obsession. Those modes, even though more limited, still offer a fantastic new hands-on experience for virtual synth users.

The SFC-OB is available on the SoundForce webshop for 399 euros incl VAT (exact price will depend on your local VAT %) in the EU and 329 euros for customers outside the EU. This demo was recorded dry straight to Pro Tools, with no external FX, save for some light compression and leveling for the purposing of uploading to YouTube. What you hear is what you get! Of course, users are encouraged to add their own FX, such as chorus, reverb, delay etc. to the sounds. Please see my upcoming video '20 minutes of beautiful OB-X8 & Strymon soundscapes' to hear some of these sounds in context.

There are 64 patches in this preset library and they will load to patches 'OB-X: Groups 8-16' on the OB-X8. The introductory sale price is $39 (normally $45).

This video is an exploration of tone and sound, hopefully capturing the essence of the beautiful pads, strings, plucks, and soundscapes that the instrument is capable of creating. The Prophet Rev 2 has become one of my favorite synths of all time, due to its incredible modulation capabilities and pure sound. Although the Rev 2 sometimes gets overshadowed by its more expensive siblings such as the Prophet 6, OB-6, and Prophet 5/10, I have found that with a little time and careful programming, the Rev 2 stands up to the others. In many situations, it actually outshines them. Many thanks to Jason Cooper over at www.voicecomponentmodeling.com for providing the inspiration to create even more compelling patches for this instrument.
