They can be mounted on a panel or put on a motherboard and used a single board modular. Most of the boards are designed with the i/o connectors all on one side of the board. Using 90 degree headers they can even be mounted vertically.

VFX Mac Part 1: OP-X

YouTube via virtualoberheim
"http://www.sonicprojects.ch/vmbundle/

SonicProjects OP-X included in the VM Bundle played within the SM Pro Audio VFX application while at the same time recording the audio output of VFX to a track of Apple GarageBand.

SonicProjects OP-X originally is a windows only plugin. With VFX and the adapted version of the VM Bundle it's nevertheless possible to play and record it on intel macs.

This is a general example how to play and use a windows only VSTi with an apple intel mac. The advantage of VM Bundle is that it's optimized for it and also can be used in the optional V-Machine hardware box.

This is the first one of 3 videos. It's recommended to also check the other two ones. The trilogy:

- VFX Mac Part 1: OP-X
- VFX Mac Part 2: Stringer
- VFX Mac Part 3: Installation

For a complete visual installation guide have a look at video Part 3.

Roland Jupiter-8 vs. OP-X PRO-II

Published on Aug 29, 2013 virtualoberheim·51 videos

"Comparing some factory presets of the Roland Jupiter-8 to the cloned ones in the Jupiter-8 Collection bank for the SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II virtual analog VSTi synth.

The original Jupiter-8 clips were recorded by Paolo Di Nicolantonio from synthmania.com and were licensed for this comparison:
http://www.synthmania.com/jupiter-8.htm

The cloned presets in OP-X PRO-II were modeled by ear after these clips and are available in the "Jupiter-8 Collection" bank which can be downloaded here:
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/opxpro2/userarea.html#Newest

The flexible engine of OP-X PRO-II allows to mimic the character and sounds of several different synths. These direct comparison examples show that it works quite well for the Jupiter-8.

Pink Floyd - On The Run【OP-X PRO-II】

Published on Oct 10, 2012 by virtualoberheim

http://www.sonicprojects.ch/opxpro2/description.html

"Using the SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II virtual analog Oberheim VSTi plugin to play the famous Pink Floyd "On The Run" sequence from their legendary "Dark Side Of the Moon" album.

The used preset is "Floyd On The Run" which can be found in the famous bank which comes with the synth. To be able to fill in the notes step by step the arpeggiator preset has to be switched to "Record" which is a small 8-step sequencer.

After playing in the single note steps the sequencer playback can be started hands-free with the damper pedal by quickly depressing and releasing it again within less than half a second (time filter). The same action again stops the playback.

The original synth used for this sequence was an EMS VCS3 which also exists as a more handy case version with included foil keyboard called EMS Synthi A.

OP-X PRO-II is hosted in an Acer Aspire One 270-26Dkk netbook using Hermann Seib SaviHost as vst host and Asio4all drivers over the built in audio card which manages to process up to 10 voices including effects glich free. Because of the small screen the virtual keyboard of OP-X PRO-II doesn't fit the screen and so ony the operation panel of can bee seen which itself luckily fits.

The used MIDI keyboard was an E-MU Xboard 61 which is connected direcly over usb to the netbook which also powers the keyboard.

The patch also can be auditioned with the demo version of the synth:

SonicProjects OP-X

"The OB-X saw the light of earth in 1979 and was the first fully programmable polyphonic synth built by Tom Oberheim. It's the direct successor to the famous SEM based units. The secret of the OB-X is that it still has the old discrete 12db SEM-filters. All later units such as OB-Xa, OB8 and Matrix as well as many competing products made the use of the more sterile Curtis filterchips. This fact makes the OB-X one of the best sounding polyphonic synths of all time. Experts put the OB-X in the same league as the Memorymoog. We love this synth!!

The secret of analog behaviour: OB-X Voiceboards Various methods have been used in the plugins world to copy analog behaviour. SonicProjects has made a new and different approach. By extensive exploring of the real device it became obvious that a big part of the organic feeling comes from the minor differences in sound between the voices. This has nothing to to with random behaviour but with device tolerances and slightly different trimpot settings. SonicProjects has implemented this behaviour into the virtual device. There are four global buttons which let you control the detunings of the oscillators, filters, envelopes and portamento times."

Title link takes you there. Via this VSE post where you will find a couple of samples by , chnarles, also mirrored here.

SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II - Factory Presets Demo

video upload by virtualoberheim

"Playing some factory presets of the SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II virtual analog synth. No external treatment involved. All sounds are coming directly from the stereo output of the synth.

...

The video features 91 presets from 29 banks. The gigantic complete patches library the synth ships with is 2'500 patches in 66 banks, so the featured picked presets are just 3.64 % of all available presets.

OP-X PRO-II: Reaper x64 Test

Moog Modular V2.5 Filter examples

via UniQue Werkx in the comments of this post.

Update via UniQue Werkx in the comments: "the first sound is based on Radiostern by Kraftwerk, the second is RUSH's famous Tom Sawyer OB-X filter FX. The third is similar to Van Halen's "1984" type filter sweeps. Fourth is similar to Gary Numan's Car's Poly Moog lead (Vox Humana). The fifth is a based on the classic Moog bass sound in a random sequence. The sixth is a high res sequence and the seventh is a high reso bass sequence with lots of filter modulation."

Update via UniQue Werkx in the comments: "I just did another example of RUSH's Tom Sawyer sweep on the Moog Modular V2.5. Of course, it's originally done on an Oberheim OB-X. I actually think this is better and closer to the sound then the OP-X does! The OP-X is a VST plug-in that's modeled after the Oberheim OB-X. However, I think the new Moog Modular filters are actually able to get a closer to the Oberheim OB-X filter! Just listen....
