"This video shows the Elektron Octatrack MKII being used as a drum sampler and midi sequencer for the Waldorf Microwave XT wavetable synthesizer. The Octatrack delay is used as a looper/stutter effect and can be controlled with the crossfader and scenes. The Octatrack can sequence external synthesizers with midi and then they can be mixed with the internal sounds of the Octatrack via the 4 inputs. The Octatrack effects can also be used on the external synths.

Just off camera I'm tweaking the little phatty with my right hand in real time. Just a little experimenting with lo-fi + distortion. The machinedrum is routed through the octatrack, all the bit reduction + distortion is done by the octatrack. The little phatty is routed separately and has some eventide space applied to it.

Dusty Patches Microset | Octatrack & Modular Synth

"Composed on Eurorack modular synth and sampled into the Octatrack.

I began by creating chord progressions by patching Pressure Points to Ornament & Crime Acid Curds. PP gives you a bunch of knobs and 4 presets for setting chord shapes, root notes, etc.O_C sends pitch data to four different voices - Waveforms, Clouds, Loquelic, and Braids. The voices are triggered in interesting rhythms by Pam's New Workout. With a patch like this you can easily create interesting chord progressions.

The results were sampled into the Octatrack, where all the percussion, arrangement, and some effects were done. The Octatrack is also sending MIDI sequence data to the QMI2, which relays it in turn to Loquelic Iteritas and Braids for live modular goodness.

All of this audio is then routed back into the modular for more effects processing. fxbox is patched to Pressure Points for different touch effects. Choices provides a joystick to control the timbre of Loquelic Iteritas. And the Octatrack has two handfuls of live performance tweaking fun. I'm switching between the delay control and quick mute pages on the Octatrack. The crossfader is fading between different scenes of effects programmed in the arranger."

"Individual track lengths and time signatures

Every track can be up to 64 steps of length and all the tracks of a pattern can have both unique length and time signature settings. A master length parameter sets the number of measures the pattern will play before all tracks are restarted from the beginning. If the master length is set to infinity, the tracks will play and loop within themselves infinitely. This amount of pattern customization makes it easy to create intricate and continuously evolving poly rhythms.
Micro Timing

The Micro Timing menu brings detailed and very precise note trig editing to the Octatrack. Every note trig can be nudged back and forth on a 1/384th step resolution note grid. The resolution doubles when the time signature of the track is set to 2x. Lightning fast flams through special repeat parameters, off-kilter stutters and organic grooves are all made possible by the Micro Timing feature.
Dedicated MIDI Sequencer

Apart from the eight internal tracks the Octatrack offers, by the simple press of a button, eight dedicated MIDI tracks. Every MIDI track features an arpeggiator, three assignable LFOs and two pages of CC parameters. Micro Timing and individual track length and time signature settings further enhance the MIDI experience. The eight MIDI tracks can play in conjunction with the eight internal tracks, making the Octatrack well-suited for controlling other instruments during a live performance.
Parameter Locks

The parameter lock feature contributed a great deal to the functionality of the Machinedrum and Monomachine sequencers and is found in the Octatrack as well. A parameter lock allows individual parameter settings for all note trigs. Trigless trigs is a parameter lock variant that doesn't trig samples, instead they alter only parameter settings for chosen sequencer steps. Through the use of trigless trigs the melodic structure of for example a vocal loop can be completely changed. If the loop is subject to timestretch the pitch can be altered without affecting the timing."

"All eight tracks of the Octatrack are playing. During the first bars the tracks are all 16 steps long. At 00:17 the pattern is changed. All tracks of the new pattern have a unique length, resulting in a complex rhythm."

Playing out my first live Octatrack project after several years of sitting pretty on the memory card. Using the cue function to improvise more effectively. Radio, record, percussive samples combine to make some mid tempo jams, that start atmospheric and get more dancefloor friendly along the way. I edited the jam in a couple of places to shorten some longer passages and fix a couple of errors."
