BAF 2025: Dreadbox Artemis Polysynth

"at BAF 2025, we spoke with Orfeas from Dreadbox about *Artemis*, their forthcoming six-voice analogue synthesizer. The synth features dual VCOs per voice with full MPE compatibility, demonstrated alongside a ROLI Seabird for enhanced expression. Dreadbox introduced a through-zero FM capability, a first for the brand, allowing for more dynamic bass tones and FM-style sounds. The onboard modulation matrix lets you assign parameters to CCs, aftertouch, and polyaftertouch.

The synth comes with a classic Dreadbox filter, switchable between two and four poles, reminiscent of the Erebus series. Stereo voice panning is enabled through a voice spread function similar to the Murmux.

Effects from Sinevibes offer enhanced modulation, delays, and reverb options within four effect slots, providing greater creative control. Connectivity includes stereo outputs, USB for MIDI, and classic MIDI in/out. Expected availability is end of February to mid-March."

"In this demo I'm exploring every mode in the new DNIPRO Radiant: A Eurorack Modular multi-effects unit with Dub Delay, Phaser, Chord Maker, Distortion/Bitcrusher, Feedback Shifter and Re-trigger (kind of a beat chopper), as well as resonant filter, flip/reverse effect and a huge and lush algorithmic reverb. DSP code is by Sinevibes who make really really nice sounding/elegantly designed plugins as well as algorithms for Korg synths you may have seen or even tried. The ace in the hole here is morphing, letting you morph between three states.

Morphing Between Presets

One of Radiant’s standout features is its ability to morph between presets. This allows for seamless transitions between different effect states, creating evolving and dynamic sounds. The morphing feature makes it ideal for live performances, as users can shift smoothly between various sonic textures.

Three-Band Filter

Radiant includes an onboard three-band filter that lets users shape their sound by adjusting the low, mid, and high frequencies. This is particularly useful for fine-tuning the effects or isolating specific frequency ranges for more controlled sound sculpting.

Reverb and Sound Reverse

In addition to the core algorithms, Radiant provides a built-in reverb, adding space and depth to the sound. The sound reverse function allows for experimental sound manipulation by reversing the audio signal, creating eerie, backward effects that can be synced to the external clock.

Preset System and Save Function

Radiant features a straightforward preset system that allows users to save and recall different effect configurations across 3 available slots. These presets can be morphed in real-time, offering expanded creative possibilities.

User-Friendly Interface

Despite its complex capabilities, Radiant is designed with a simple and intuitive user interface. The module offers easy-to-use controls, allowing for quick adjustments and real-time tweaking of effects. This makes it accessible for both experienced modular users and those new to modular synthesis, providing a powerful yet approachable tool for creative sound design."

Dreadbox Artemis is a six-voice desktop polyphonic analog synthesizer with two VCOs with waveshaping, PWM and FM, high and low pass VCFs, four Sinevibes effects, a polyphonic sequencer and 640 presets on board. "Eternal is a barber-pole flanger effect plugin. Unlike a traditional flanger which has its tone repeatedly go up and down, a barber-pole flanger goes upwards or downwards in a seemingly endless fashion. To accomplish this unique effect, Eternal employs a thoroughly calibrated low-frequency oscillator with six output signals which modulate and crossfade three flangers – and they do this in a very special way. Since these oscillators have a “through-zero phase” design, Eternal can go from downwards to upwards motion and back completely seamlessly.
