Moog Subharmonicon Granular Ambient Bells with Soma Cosmos and Linnstrument

video upload by riotbell

"This is a video featuring the Subharmonicon being controlled via midi by the Linnstrument. One of my favorite things about the Subharmonicon is the way oscillators can mix to provide some very rich bell and chime like timbres.

The Soma Cosmos is providing granulated repeats that slowly evolve into a droning pad over the course of the video.

Forgive my awkward reach, on the Linnstrument, I had trouble setting up an overhead camera and had to pace about to reach things.

Thanks for listening!"

1010 Music Lemondrop Synth, Soma Cosmos, and Linnstrument Ambient Flutes

video upload by riotbell

"This is another Lemondrop video. I don't know how many people are really interested in this little synth, but I've had a lot of fun with it, and it definitely punches above its weight class.

Wish it had MPE support, but it still works pretty well with the Linnstrument.

The Cosmos is on its most basic setting, having a lot of fun with this too.

I'm thinking of doing a Lemondrop review if there's interest. Please let me know.

Thanks for listening!"

Ambient jam with the Arturia Polybrute and Soma Cosmos

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.

With some busier jams coming up, I wanted to put another simple, ambient setup on the table. It had been ages since I explored the Polybrute, not because I don't like it, but because it's so big! But the Polybrute has great oscillators, filters, and effects, as well as a layout that is a joy to explore. Paired with the Cosmos, i.e. my favourite looper, and I've actually been making improvisations on this setup for a week.

Arturia Polybrute — All synth sounds and effects
Soma Cosmos — Asymmetrical drifting loop station

Performed and recorded live to a stereo output, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

Ambient jam w/ Soma Cosmos, Take 5, Polymoon, Marantz cassette tape piano, and guitar

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.

A common feature of many of my songs is a sort of upward progression in dynamics; so here, I wanted to try to do something different, a soundscape that flowed from one palette to another, its feelings moving laterally instead of vertically. This approach was inspired by the Soma Cosmos and having the feedback (loop decay) set below 1.0, so that the loops gently cascade out over time and allow for new loops to take over. I love the effect. I love the Cosmos.

For audio fodder, I had recorded an improv piano piece the night before to cassette tape, and found myself using it for more than just notes/snippets, instead following its chord progression at the end here. For live sound generation, I used the Take 5—I really love the warm pads it can do—and a baritone guitar through compression, reverb, and an amp simulator. Switching the Cosmos off and on, I let the guitar take the lead in the first section, and the piano and synth in the second, with the instruments switching roles into the loop. I love that the Cosmos's on/off is silent!

Thanks for listening.

Fender Jaguar Baritone into Union Lab into Union C-Verb into Strymon Iridium - Electric guitar
Marantz PMD430 - Cassette with piano on it
Mackie Mix5 - Mixer
Meris Polymoon - Delay/reverb on everything out of the mixer
Soma Labs Cosmos - Looping

Written, performed and recorded live to a stereo output, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

SOMA Lyra-8 + CXM1978 // Getting lost in the process

video upload by Dexba

"It is quite difficult to describe the relationship between me and the Lyra.
On paper, it does very little, or way too much, much of it is nasty sounding, dirty, unpolished, difficult to tune and keep in tune, interpret the Attack & Decay pattern.
But, without me even noticing it, I always end up with very intense, involved jams, lasting several minutes, and I need to trim them down to do the sensible thing for the youtube viewers (and still almost 9 minutes).
There is something (sigh, I have to admit it) very organic, organismic, about how the Lyra behaves and how it forces you to interact with it.
It's the fear of the unreplicability (is that a word?), it's the gritty nature of the oscillators, with their seemingly random palette of harmonics that will eventually get in the way of tuning and creating chord, I really don't know. But I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Sort of. Tempt me!
Oh, and yes, that's the insanely for-no-reason expensive reverb pedal, and I am torn between liking it a lot on the Lyra and missing some of sparkling (or muddier at the same time) vibe of a BigSky or a DBA Room.
I definitely need to try the Cosmos tho!
I had a nice video in the making, with a sort of a Lyra review/comparison with the Solar50, but then life changed rapidly and I had to ditch all of that.
Now I am waiting for an Ornament-8 to complete my set with the Lyra and Pulsar-23 too, and I hope I will be able to show you something before the end of the year 💝
In any case, enjoy ✨"

Friday FUN Synth Hydrasynth Explorer 1st Look Synth Jam

video upload by sonicstate

"We posted our review of the new Ahsun Sound Machines, Hydrasynth Deluxe- the twin engined Hydrasynth with 73 keys, and now the Hydrasynth Explorer has just arrived. Rather than post a full review, we fired up the system, hooked up the Soma Cosmos - Drifting Memory Station and took a look and a listen in the form of a Friday synth jam.

The Explorer feels like another nicely constructed piece of hardware with a plastic case but still sturdy, no ribbon controller, but with a 3 octave mini key, poly aftertouch keybed. Essentially all of the Hydrasynth under the hood (8 voices, FX etc)

Nick takes a look at the new form factor and plays some sounds into the Cosmos for a musical interest."

Waldorf Iridium and SOMA Cosmos [New Firmware]- Synth Jam - Friday Fun

video upload by sonicstate

"Big thanks to @Technomadic for the loan of his Waldorf Iridium - the desktop incarnation of the larger Waldorf Quantum. We're pairing that with the Soma Cosmos Drifting Memory Station - (just reviewed) but it has a new Firmware - currently Beta, which adds a more traditional Looping option. This will be available as some point in the near future, but we thought we'd use it.

WAV File available via our Patreon Page
http://patreon.com/sonicstate

The Arturia Keystep 37 is plugged into the Iridium USB host port (no MIDI cables needed), the Iridium then goes directly into the Cosmos and out to the recording.

The Iridium is certainly a lovely piece of hardware with a ton of features and synthesis options - sadly we didn't have time to go into that, but the hardware is really lovely."

New SOMA Synths COSMOS Drifting Memory Station Effect Pedal

Demo Performance (no talk) video by Vlad Kreimer

via SOMA Synths

"COSMOS is a drifting memory station designed to work with meditative states through music. The design of the controls, functions and generated soundscapes are intended to evoke, in both performer and listener, states and experiences inherent in meditation, such as limitless space, fluidity, spontaneous development, presence, the ability to hear, tranquility, the experience of subtle harmony and happiness enveloping the whole world.

From a functional point of view, COSMOS is a large array of sound memory, in which recorded sounds undergo constant recombinations, spontaneously generating an ever-changing soundscape. This is achieved in three ways — by a mathematical shift based on the relationships between large prime numbers (the size of all delay lines are different primes), an asynchronous operation of the LFO, and modulation with a slowly changing chaotic signal. As a result, it allows the endless layering and processing of various sounds, as in a looper, but without an intrusive, repetitive loop.

COSMOS generates rich, fluid and evolving soundscapes perfect for ambient music. Using COSMOS, you can play an entire meditative solo concert while being in a spontaneous flow and without using studio-prepared sequences, backing tracks and other things that can’t be a reflection of the 'here and now'."
