WMD METRON S. Bus Tutorial - Using METRON with Malekko Voltage Block

"WMD Metron is a 16 track Trigger and Gate sequencer with tons of deep features, real-time control, and a very easy to use interface.

METRON can be expanded to have up to 64 CV tracks as well by adding the Voltera expander (4 CV tracks per Voltera)

Metron also sends commands via S.BUS to communicate to other modules that are on the same powered bus board. These messages are MIDI program changes that are primarily used for recalling presets on other modules using the METRON interface.

In this video, Alex goes through how to set up your METRON to send these program changes to the Malleko Voltage Block, allowing you to change the Voltage Block's presets remotely and automatically from METRON. this is great for a Eurorack live performance, where you are using METRON as the master sequencer, but would like to recall presets on your voltage block. METRON's S.BUS function allows you to send multiple messages in one sequence, per variation, or per track. Eseentially treated as a 17th track, you can also change the pattern length of the S.BUS track independent of the other tracks, meaning you can have a polymetric feel to your program changes."

TIME WARP is a dual channel, gated slew module with some extra features that make a powerful and versatile addition to any Eurorack Modular Synthesizer System.

Its unique, Gated Slew function allows users to add slew to any voltage signal at designated times by sending it a gate signal from a sequencer or similar source. Switch it up with Invert Logic on the gate input, or use the switch as a real time performance tool for hands-on control over when the slew will take place.

With two modes of symmetry and a full wave rectifier on the input, Time Warp can function as 2 independent Slews, two A/R Envelopes with tied controls, or even as an envelope follower, taking audio and turning it into a useful envelope signal. CV control over the Rate of slew! Time warp puts all of that in a compact, 4hp package."

"The WMD DVCA is a powerful little dual VCA eurorack module in 4hp. It is great for all sizes of modular synthesizer rigs big and small. The Zero Crossing Detector (ZCD) allows you to use snappy envelopes on smooth waveforms and eliminate clicks and pops.

There has been some mystery around the UPD A jack of the module which essentially lets you sample voltages to set the amplitude level of the VCA. In this video, Alex runs through two potential uses for this input and why you might decide to use it in a future patch."

Over the past couple years we consistently felt the need for a simple crossfader module that would allow users to switch between two stereo sources, add a stereo effect path, or easily mix a mono source with a stereo one. AXYS was born from this need.

Each crossfader features stereo inputs with normalling for mono to stereo uses as well as independent CV control. Control both crossfaders with one CV easily and decide how the Y will react to X's CV.

"Synthesis techniques are what eurorack in general is all about. having all options available at all times is a huge reason why one would want to get into modular synths. That said, it's common to learn a few things and settle, ending up uninspired yet again.

Subtractive synthesis is synthesis is a technique that is used in countless synths on the market both hardware and software, and we can all agree that simple voices sometimes just sound the best in the right contact. However, when patching up the same modules the same way every time, it can get a bit boring and one could ask "why should I use modular if I'm just going to patch up what a Moog Model D does every time?"

In this video, Alex explains a simple, yet fun technique to get more out of your eurorack system with modules that you probably already own. He explains the usefulness of Ring Modulation and Amplitude modulation to create filter-like sounds that have a different overall character. Revealing some tricks along the way like synching your modulator oscillator, and Filtering the modulator's signal, this video is a must watch for anyone stuck in the same old loop when it comes to patching.

The DVCA is a voltage controlled amplifier module with an all analogue signal path and a digital detection circuit, allowing the user to easy eliminate clicks and pops from using a fast envelope with low frequency and smooth audio signals.

"Eurorack and modular synth performances can benefit from using different techniques to transition from one "song" or mood to another. This can be achieved in a number of ways depending on the gear you are using and what techniques best suit the feeling at the time.

In this video, Alex covers a technique he's calling the "loop and swap". Using our newest Eurorack Module AXYS and creating a hybrid eurorack and computer setup (microsoft surface), he demonstrates how to record a loop of something you are already playing in order to give you a time buffer to create something new and move on.

This is a basic demonstration of the idea and could be elaborated on a ton.

AXYS is a super useful module and has tons of uses that we'll be showcasing in the next few videos we release. This is just one of them."

"Mixing worlds between guitar pedals and modular synths is a super fun way to get more out of a minimal set up.

In this video, WMD Metron is in control of a 4 channel drum machine. Each of our drum modules, Chimera, Fracture, and Crucible are running through the WMD/SSF Blender 4 channel mixer with 2 drums going to Left and 2 drums to the right.

The ZOIA is receiving CV (gate signals) and Audio from this @wmdevices Eurorack drum machine. The Gate signal from Metron is triggering an ADSR envelope on the ZOIA. This ADSR opens a filter connected to a randomized polyphonic chord on the ZOIA made possible using the new scale options on the ZOIA’s quantizer tied to a single random LFO.

ZOIA is processing 2 separate channels of audio with 2 drum tracks on the Left channel and 2 drum tracks on the right, each channel has separate effects going into the ZOIA’s mixer and lastly into a stereo reverb on the ZOIA."

WMD Black Panels WHAT!?! - WMD is moving to a new look!

"In order to provide our user base with the best possible quality product possible, we decided that it was time to bring our panel making process in house. This is one of the last processes that we had been outsourcing as it is a very difficult thing to get right.

We finally landed at a process that we are extremely excited to share.

From now on, our modules will all feature a virtually indestructible panel made of black anodized aluminum with engraved artwork and lettering. For now, we are only offering newly build modules as black versions. We do not have the time or resources to offer a black replacement panel for each module however this may become an option down the road. As we run out of things, we will be filling new orders with black versions, starting with Crucible, Fracture, Chimera, and of course, METRON.

WMD TEST LAB - Generative Music with WMD METRON and CRUCIBLE

"This is a little jam using METRON as a random trigger generator for the rest of this small 6U eurorack system to create some generative, ambient, spacey sounds.

Crucible is being used as a resonator for the WMD Fracture module. The melodic lines are created with two WMD/SSF Spectrum oscillator modules, with occasional FM from one to the other. The Modbox' Sample and Hold output is choosing waveforms on the geiger counter as well controling the VCA that is in control of the FM and crossmod for the Spectrums."
