Access Virus FM Power | Synthmorph Sequences

Published on Apr 28, 2017 SynthMorph

Virus FM Power is not just a distinct soundset of 94 presets based on FM synthesis capabilities of Access Virus, but also contains 20 special morphing Synthmorph MIDI sequences."

"Although the classic Access Virus B and Virus C are primarily virtual analog synthesizers, they are armed with a simple two-operator FM mode applying frequency modulation synthesis. Despite this simple 'pseudo-FM' structure, Virus uses some clever methods to extend the range of possible FM sounds into its own unique territory of amazing sonic landscapes.

As this synthesizer has a special frequency modulation character, it proved to be a rewarding idea to dig deep into this part of the Virus and making presets using its FM-only features. What does it mean? The filters are usually completely off (as the original Yamaha DX7 did not have a filter at all), but the unison modes, the arpeggiator and the otherwise powerful distortion are hardly used too. Even the built-in effects were used differently – they are disabled most often!

The idea was to create pure, punchy, bright FM sounds. While the presets were inspired by some classic FM presets, a Virus always encourages you to break the rules and create something beyond the ordinary: you can use these sounds not just for synthwave, ambient, techno, edm, pop, psy, house or trap, but basically for any purpose.

The sonic palette is varied: deep and raspy FM basses, crystal clear keys, tinkling mono leads, animated pads and sharp plucks, often spiced up with some irregular yet controlled atonal, aliased, and droning nature."

Join us and explore the world of vintage synths using the Access Virus Ti and VIPER 1.1.0 . Whether you're a beginner or a professional producer, we provide the best vintage synth presets for Access Virus Ti and VIPER software 1.2.0 VSTi"

More info at :
https://www.ultimatexsounds.com/alpha106

" ALPHA 106 " is a Access Virus Ti & VIPER library inspired by the JUNO 106 and JUNO 60 synthesizers.
The library contains 114 presets divided into categories.
For many weeks we refined every detail to make the experience as good as possible
Very warm and analog sound that you will double check if the sound is generated by Virus Ti

How it was made ? The idea ?

First we created a several basic presets close as possible to the original from JUNO 106/60.
But we didn't want to stop there.
We wanted to go a little further, exploiting the capabilities of Virus Ti, but not exceeding a certain limit.
The last stage is polishing every detail of the sound.
In addition, in the package you will find a lot of very interesting and inspiring sounds.
They sound massive, wide and very analog.
Definitely a must-have for all fans of classic sound.

Designed by MR.X
" I spent many hours on every single preset. Believe me !
Anyway, It was worth it !! "

The The Future (?) of the Access Virus

synthmorph has a speculative post up on the future of the Access Virus here. What makes this one interesting is it goes into the reliance of ever obsolete DSP chips. It also lists out the chips used for each Virus. I never managed to pick up a Virus, because every time I was about to be ready a new model would come out. I wanted to pick up one Virus that covered all previous Viruses, which still leads me to the question if the latest can cover the character of previous incarnations. If anyone has an opinion, feel free to leave a comment.

"First we should talk a bit about the special computing chip, the heart of every Virus synthesizer, a certain version of the Motorola 56k DSP (digital signal processors). The origin of the DSP 56000 series came from Motorola's requests to the U.S. Music Industries as to which DSP architecture features they would need to produce synthesizers and other keyboards. This happened in the mid 1980s when the Japanese music industry introduced digital keyboards using ASICs (Application Specific Intergrated ICs), and started dominating this field previously exclusive to US manufacturers. Yamaha, Korg, Roland and others started to outdate Moog, ARP, Oberheim and Sequential Circuits. The result of this request was the birth of the first Motorola 56000 digital signal processor (DSP) generation in 1986. These 56k chips were used widespread also in the audio industry since the mid 90s, not just in hardware synthesizers and effect processors, but appeared as an auxiliary digital signal processor for audio functions in some high-end multimedia computers, like the NeXT, the Atari Falcon or the Silicon Graphics Indigo workstations...

As you certainly know, Virus is a digital synthesizer, with a 56k DSP running software code to generate and modify all aspects of the sounds, these are the exact models:
1997 Virus A - 1 x Motorola DSP 56303
1999 Virus B - 1 x Motorola DSP 56311
2002 Virus C - 1 x Freescale DSP 56362
2005 Virus TI - 2 x Freescale DSP 56367 - 2x150 MHz
2009 Virus TI2 - 2 x Freescale DSP 56321 - 2x275 MHz."

Synth Shorts - Access Virus C/DSP56300 - Classic Hardstyle Lead & Flute

video upload by Eyezer Productionz Sound Design

"A classic big sounding Hardstyle lead made with the DSP56300 emulator, which is running Access Virus C ROM. I used full panspread in the global unison section and around 5-6 voices of global unison. The panspread really helps to widen up the sound. It's quite funny how modern day Hardstyle producers use tons of layers, while the good old Virus can sound huge with just 1 synth layer. Simplicity is the best, imo.

Midi: Showtek - Hold Us Back
External FX: Valhalla Room/Delay, Fruity 7 Band EQ, Fruity Limiter"

Quintette

YouTube Published on May 16, 2012 by RADIOKLOW

"Quintette is a collective work achieved with a group a four students of Lycée Edouard Herriot, Lyon, France : Laure Varichon, Noé Charmet, Clément Poignet, Kiefer Wiessler. During the year 2011-2010, they joined a course I created about philosophy of aesthetics and electronic music. The result of our work is this composition in five movements for Virus TI, Microkorg and Doepfer, to which we added parts for voices and piano. The voice parts are the free theater like interpretation of two famous texts by Emmanuel kant and Friedrich Nietzsche about the question of genius. The voices and the piano were sometimes transformed with the GRM Tools. The five films were created by the four students and I to illustrate the notion of creation in a free way, through the process of a painting's creation followed until the end of the fifth movement. A bonus consisting in one of my own composition was added to the Quintette. The whole work was shown for the first time in Lycée Edouard Herriot on friday 11 May 2012, to a large audience during the Week of Arts of this high school. I want to thank the four students for their friendly involvement and beautiful work in this project !"

The movements and synths used:

1st Movement [Doepfer for intro, Access Virus Ti for majority of piece, MicroKORG solo at end]
7:15 2nd Movement [All MicroKORG]
11:50 3rd Movement [Access Virus Ti - appearance at 17:06]
21:25 4th Movement [All Moog Filtatron]

Access Virus B Rackmount Virtual Analog Digital Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Following up on the success of the popular Virus, Access unleashed an upgraded model in 1999, the Virus B. The original Virus A had 12-voice polyphony, but the new OS in the Virus B doubles the polyphony from 12- to 24-voices and the oscillators, from 2 to 3 per voice. The new OS also added an enhanced programmable 32-band vocoder. There are now up to 82 simultaneous effects, a retro-phaser (6-stage stereo phaser with 24 filter-poles), chorus/flanger, ring modulator, multiple forms of distortion, an analog boost algorithm, and an envelope follower. Up to five FM (Frequency Modulation) modes are also on-board now and many new sounds have been created for this bigger and better version of the Virus.

OS 4.0 was released in late 2000 with even more amazing features! The update is downloadable from Access (free of charge!) and comes installed in all new Virus synths to ship after its release. OS 4.0 adds a reverb with advanced features such as pre-delay sync-able to Midi clock. There's also a groove delay, surround sound capability, external effect sends using the individual outputs, an Intelligent Random Patch Generator, sound categories to sort all your patches in a logical order, Direct FX to use your Virus as an effects-processor while maintaining full polyphony, 16 independent arpeggiators with numerous patterns and realtime parameter access, and an advanced distortion module with lo-fi and filter dsp-effects. OS 4.0 makes the Virus one of the best analog modeling synthesizers to date! Complete control of parameters is available via MIDI. "Adaptive Control Smoothing" ensures ultra smooth parameter changes. There's also a free Emagic sound-driver based Editor/Librarian for Windows and MacOS."

"Access Virus A 2016 Return of Virtual Analog POWER!
by Rik Marston 100% No Talking! *Watch in HD*

The Access Virus 'A' is where the Virtual Analog craze started for me.
(AND a ton of killer EBM, Gothic & Industrial bands, too!)
VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, Covenant, Depeche Mode...
There was always a VIRUS in a track, from Berlin to New York,
Chicago to Tokyo, a VIRUS in the track. That's because the
VIRUS can do just about any sound. Not to mention it's
awesome internal EFFECTS.
Still worth the cash if you can find one in working order!"

NAMM: Access Virus TI2

They and we is pleased. :)
Note that "Learn more" link isn't working for me in Firefox or IE. I found the following under News.

"OS3 Public Beta available for download
01/15/2009
We is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the Virus TI2 series. The successor of the acclaimed range of totally integrated synthesizers adds 25% more calculating power and sports a redesigned housing and front panel. We also used new materials to bring down the weight of the keyboard versions. On the software side of things, a major feature update, OS3, will be available by the time you read this. The new operating system adds several new FX such as a Tape Delay, Frequency Shifter and several new Distortion algorithms along with a new feature called Character.

Character allows you to adjust the overall tone of a preset reminiscent of several vintage and well-known synthesizers. In addition you can emphasis certain aspects of the patch to allow it to cut better through the mix, or fade it into the background with an extra-wide stereo field.

The new distortions were built from scratch and feature an extreme dynamic range along with sophisticated controls to tailor the sound to your specific needs. They can add everything from warm, tube-like overtones to complete sonic deconstruction more reminiscent of circuit-bending. The new algorithms also include a revamped bit and sampling-rate reduction, allowing you to change the quality and cutoff point with precise, continuously variable control.

The stereo Frequency Shifter and the new Ring Modulator are state of the art algorithms modelled with old '70s stomp boxes in mind.

The Tape Delay goes way beyond the possibilities of the real Tape Delays in the '60s and '70s. It smoothly syncs to tempo, lets you decide if a Doppler effect takes place when changing the tempo, and even switching the delay time between presets is all smooth, making it perfect for performers. Last but not least, a modification to the main "VCA" algorithm enables OS3 users to design gating FX known from electro and minimal influenced music.

Virus Control has received a completely redesigned user-interface thanks to various improvement requests over the last years. The plug-in now features a side chain input allowing you to mangle audio from a sequencer track with the FX and sound engine of the hardware Virus (for selected hosts only). The best news, however, is that OS3 is compatible with all legacy Virus TIs and the Virus TI Snow, thus enabling Access' vast user base to update their existing instruments with all the new software features totally free of charge.

OS3 will be available immediately. The Virus TI2, which comes in the following flavours will also be available shortly after NAMM.

Virus TI2 Desktop 19" desktop synthesizer with wooden front application.
Virus TI2 Keyboard 61 keys (semi weighted) keyboard model with wooden side panels.
Virus TI2 Polar 37 keys (synth action) keyboard model with alloy and wooden side panels.
