Acces Virus B Desktop Synthesizer SN 10002048

via this auction, also on Reverb

"Access Virus B in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original power supply, manual, and rack ears.

The Access Virus B is the second generation of this German made desktop synth-module. A favorite for its aggressive analog sounds, the Virus B is very intuitive and user-friendly, with 32 knobs and 27 buttons, all of which allow tweaking in realtime. The Virus uses physical-modeling to digitally recreate analog sounds, with an incredibly punchy and clean analog sound that can give you anything from low sub-woofer blowing basses to overdriven 303-style lead lines.

The new OS in the Virus B doubles the original Virus A's polyphony from 12- to 24-voices and the oscillators, from 2 to 3 per voice. The new OS also added an enhanced programmable 32-band vocoder. There are now up to 82 simultaneous effects, a retro-phaser (6-stage stereo phaser with 24 filter-poles), chorus/flanger, ring modulator, multiple forms of distortion, an analog boost algorithm, and an envelope follower. Up to five FM (Frequency Modulation) modes are also on-board and many new sounds are offered in this notably improved iteration of the Virus."

Répétition du concert du 15 Mai 2018

Published on May 18, 2018 RADIOKLOW

A new performance from MATRIXSYNTH reader RADIOKLOW, known for his compositions with the Access Virus TI. Side note: his music was actually the tipping point for me in finally picking up a Virus TI2. I have analog and VA covered. RADIOKLOW's experimental use of the Virus TI proved it was capable of much more. But, enough of me. The above is a rehearsal video with some interesting visuals. The below is the actual concert. The composition was done with RADIOKLOW's students.

Concert du 15 Mai 2018 : Raison, Rêves et autres délires

Published on May 18, 2018 RADIOKLOW

"This concert was given on Thuesday 15 May 2018 by the Philosophy and Electronic Music Workshop I created seven years ago. On this special occasion, we performed a show including music and a film.

Saturday 12th of may 2018, eight of the nine members of the Philosophy and Electronic Music Workshop I created seven years ago, gathered at my home to rehearse with me our concert of the 15th of may. This rehearsal appeared to us interesting enough to be presented to the public. Since the filming of it was only a work document consisting on a unique picture with nothing interested to be seen in it, we decided we would use here the film created to be shown during the concert.

Our theme was this year : 'Reason, Dreams and other deliriums'.

During the sessions of the seventh season every student worked on magic objects and created an original work. These objects and works are shown in the film. Various quotations of philosophers and poets about our notions give a written echo to the images and the music.

The music was performed on an Access Virus TI 1, Roland Fantom XR for the piano sound, acoustic instruments including : tibetan bowls, bells, indian cymbals, stones, marbles, various decoys, flutes and two electric guitars.

The musicians are :
Victor Chemla : Virus TI, various percussion instruments and decoys
Herménégilde Claux : Virus TI, various percussion instruments and decoys
Grégoire Lombard : Roland Fantom XR
Louisian Germain : Electric guitar, shaman drum, various percussion instruments
Valesca Goulmot : Various percussion instruments and decoys
Antoine Grimaud : Electric guitar
Clara Maeso : Various percussion instruments
Lucas Mollard : Virus TI, various percussion instruments
Foucauld Monteux : Flute, various percussion instruments and decoys
Marc-Henri Arfeux : Virus TI
As a bonus, you will find a composition I created and perform alone on a Little Phatty. This composition, exploring in the same field as the music for the concert, is called : Ritual of bowls."

Performing in a Cathedral - Marc-Henri at Saint Bonaventure in Lyon

Published on Apr 15, 2013 RADIOKLOW·77 videos

The Access Virus acts as a controller in this performance. The first sounds you hear are actually the Roland V-Synth XT. Later it controls the Snow. The Little Phatty controls the Blofeld.

'Concert with poetic reading given at Saint Bonaventure of Lyon, during the festival "Artistic Adventures at the Cordeliers' the 10th of march 2013.

With Marie-Ange Sebasti : poems and Marc-Henri Arfeux : synthesizers (Virus TI, Roland V-Synth XT, Virus Snow Blofeld, Little Phatty).

Many thanks to Michel Morlot.

This concert lasted one hour, but since we had small technical problems with the filming, I decided to select 45mn of the whole show, divided into five moments, from the beginning to the end."

Marc-Henri dedicates the performance to the people of Boston and the inocent victims.

Update: Video of the performance added above.

Pics of via Marc-Henri's (aka RADIOKLOW) setup and performance at Saint Bonaventure in Lyon. The performance was yesterday, April 10.  Four of the pics were taken in the afternoon before the performance. The second to last is a still from a video of the performance which will be available at a later date.  You can see an Access Virus TI & Snow, Moog Little Phatty, Roland V-Synth XT Rack and Waldorf Blofeld. I asked Marc-Henri if I could post the images as you do not see this every day. The video of the performance will follow when ready. Until then, see the RADIOKLOW and Marc-Henri links above for previous posts featuring Marc-Henri's work. He is a true explorer of sound and his compositions with the Access Virus Ti are reminiscent of what others do with expansive modular systems.

Access Virus Update in the Works?

NAMM 2018 - Christoph Kemper - KUCR Published on Feb 1, 2018

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

Comes in right at the beginning and some talk at 9:15. Not clear what it might be, or when it might happen, but I can state this: I finally ordered a Virus TI2 desktop back in January and am still waiting to hear back. There is no word if they have been discontinued, if more are being produced, or if orders are on hold for an updated model. I'm hoping for an updated model myself. We'll see if anything is mentioned at the upcoming Musikmesse or Superbooth.

Video description:
"We speak with the legendary programmer Christoph Kemper who designed the Access Virus, the Kemper Profiling Amplifier, and much more."

Update via bacizone in the comments:

"As he mentioned, it will not happen these days. I expect around 3-4 years later, once the current DSP technology will not be is really available anymore.

2 nice examples of tweaking the presets (IQ-PAD RP & V-BRASS RP for example)
into something of your own. So easy to use, fun to tweak, and
the prices are GREAT 2nd hand. Be sure to test before you buy,
some outputs, knobs & buttons can be bad by now.
Still worth it even as a MIDI module controlled by another device.
Here I am controlling the VIRUS A from my Roland JX-305.
The two are excellent together!! Any good sequencer & VIRUS
will be a dream come true! (TI owners may disagree with me
due to some OS issues but I'm sure even then they still dig it!)

Access Virus TI Sounds Part 4 - Self Programmed Sounds - The last sound group from the old batch

video upload by Friendly Noise

"First introduced in 1997, the Access Virus and all his following variations are without doubt one of the most iconic and used synthesizers in the 21st century. The last versions of the Virus are full of details with a real musical function, like three oscillators, three LFOs, dual multimode filters (+ comb and formant modes), great modulation matrix and effect section, FM, ring modulation, wavetable, Hypersaw (kind of Rolandish-Supersaw)… to name a few features. With that power, the Virus can cover all the basics for different kinds of musical styles. A 16 part multimode and great polyphony can deliver all the sounds you need for whole songs… providing you like the characteristic sound of the Virus. Some love it, some hate it. Was the amazing polyphony achieved at the cost of the high end? The Virus is not the brightest synth in the town, but how much do you care about that?

The sounds are illustrated with pictures of my own Virus. There is no video, because those are old recordings, made long time ago before I started recording videos. The purpose of the recordings was exclusively for personal use, a way to remember sounds I liked. Some of the recordings can be useful today in order to get familiar with the sound of the featured instruments, so I decided to upload them. In fact, no video is an advantage: you can do other things while just listening to the sounds. :-)

All sounds were programmed by myself.

Video sections:

00:06 Start Pad
01:27 Hypersaw
02:21 Hypersaw + Rate Reducer
04:46 Moog Style Filter
07:44 Ring Modulation
10:41 More Ring Modulation
11:46 Arpeggio
12:45 Sequence + Rate Reducer
14:02 Superpad
15:06 Resonant Sounds
17:01 Nice Internal Effects
18:33 More Hypersaw"

Great Synth Mysteries Ep. 6: There will NEVER be another Access Virus

video upload by Noir Et Blanc Vie

"This is a love story about a synthesizer unlike many others, in my opinion a synth the came out so long ago still eclipses many releases of today. Great Synth Mystery, mmm, maybe... but I wanted to make a compelling piece about such a wonderful instrument. As a musician and not a reviewer or journalist I think this really speaks to how ahead of it's time the Access Virus Ti was."

Bus Powered Access Virus TI + Nord Modular g1 25 Synth

via this auction

""Everybody serious in the electronic music scene knows that the Virus and Nord sound cannot be achieved through software plugins alone"
--
Up for sale is my completed synth project.

Technical Notes:

In a nutshell, the combo is comprised of the following 3 main parts :

1 Novation 25 key SL mkII
1 Clavia Nord Micro Modular
1 Access Virus TI Snow

All parts have been soldered and mounted together inside the novation shell:

the micro modular and the TI snow receive power from the fw800 bus.

(you no longer have to plug them into the wall!)

unlesss you want to of course, all orignal power sockets are intact and accessable from the outside so you can still use wall wart power if you prefer.. the [audio out] of the micro modular is hardwired to the [audio in] of the TI snow. I also left the four micro modular 1/4" jacks accesable so you can plug input the mm voncoder or output the raw mm signal. the midi ports of the micro modular are hardwired to the midi ports of the novation. All original Virus TI Snow and Nord Modular jacks are accessible from the back of the synth (as seen in photo 6) also as you can see from the photo 1 , the main virus volume knob is routed to the upper right hand corner. I also swapped out blue for red on the novation scribble strip. so in total the synth requires 3 cords/ports to operate: 1 FW800 cable for power 1 USB port for novation SL/mkII and micro modular 1 USB port for the Virus TI Snow Also included are original cases and parts for the TI Snow and Nord Micro."
