Atari Punk Console 2.0 Kit from GetLoFi

more info including how to order on GetLoFi

"The Stepped Tone Generator circuit by Forrest M Mims III has been around for ages. Recently the same circuit was rediscovered and reborn catching the attention of the Internet as the Atari Punk Console for its coarse and crunchy tones. When it became apparent that the demand for this sound was still great it was decided that offering a Kit is not such a bad idea. The original schematic and PCB transfer drawn up by Matthew Helm seemed like a good place to start, however it is riddled with needless complexity and was not something one could wrap their head around easily. Plus it was not taking the advantage of superior PCB mounting capabilities. Behold the Atari Punk Console (APC) 2.0! Redesigned entirely from scratch and based on the original schematic from the Radio Shack Book. The APC 2.0 is designed so that its components solder directly to the matching traces on the printed side of the board. It is quick and easy to put together even for a novice."

Dr Blankenstein builds Atari Punk Consoles (3 Year Anniversary Video!)

Published on Dec 13, 2015 DoctorBlankenstein

Congrats to Dr Blankenstein!

Dr Blankenstein (Drew Blanke) builds his Atari Punk Consoles (3 Year Anniversary Video!)

I can not tell you how excited I am to finally put this video up, or should I say... A video like this (a fast motion build video). I am equally excited that today (meaning 12/13/2015 at the time of this video) is the 3RD YEAR ANNIVERSARY of my version of the ATARI PUNK CONSOLE! Here is the original video if you haven't seen it: https://youtu.be/v-VsaC33edU Since uploading that video I have sold HUNDREDS of units to countless talented musicians and art collectors from all over the globe. This video is a kinda thank to all those people, giving you a FAST GLIMPSE of all the work that went into your little video game sounding drone synth. When people say "hand made synth"... they usually don't get much more hand made than what you see here. I am excited to share that experience with all of you. I really do hope you enjoy.

So how the video goes is... I was building a batch of 6 APC 2600's when a ton of holiday order rolled in at once. So, I needed to start to finish a few of them off one by one. So, I only really finish ONE Atari Punk Console... BUT, you are really watching me prepare a batch of six of them. Sorry about all the weird lighting and camera angles, I still haven't gotten the perfect camera for these sorts of shoots and my space is limited for lighting and tripods... so it is what it is. :)

I obviously was shooting for a video in the style of the great TIM SWAY: https://www.youtube.com/user/timsway or say the amazing Jimmy Diresta: https://www.youtube.com/user/jimmydir... (sorry for goofing on your name btw, I was totally just playing dumb:).

Well I guess that's it for now... here's to another year of making crazy sounds together. Thanks for all who have grabbed an APC 2600 from me over the years, and for those of you who haven't... well... I hope to speak to you soon. Be well, have a happy and healthy holiday season.

If you enjoyed this video... please pass it on. If you want to see more like it... please SUBSCRIBE NOW :) Thanks again!

Ambient Explorations pt.32 (Atari Punk Console DIY Synthesizer)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"I decided to start learning about how to build DIY synthesizers, and the basics of circuit bending as a whole, so as a complete noob in all of this, I bought an Atari Punk Console DIY synthesizer kit on synthrotek. I spent probably close to 7 hours on this simple build, just because I never soldered anything in my life so it took some troubleshooting at some point, but I managed to get it working somewhat. I will be making videos about DIY synthesizers and time-lapses and whatnot of my beginner experiments, and such. For now, I made this 'ambient' piece with the 'Quinoa Punk Console'. I thought it would be funny if I put it into a used box of Chewy granola bars, instead of a normal box.

The Atari/Deathlehem Punk/Jazz Console/Choir - PREVIEW

YouTube via dolphinicus — April 20, 2010 — "I took another circuit I developed last year and applied IT, to the Atari Punk Console idea, that you see all over the internet. This is a SHORT preview of my breadboarding of it.
This unit whilst simple in the amount of controls, will have a far greater sound capability, than, the Atari Punk Console. It is also VERY QUIET. Outside of my voice, the sound from it, needs to be turned up to be heard."

it's pitch is modulated by the top sequencer either pitch or pulse width
second atari punk/stepped modulates the main apc pitch's cv pin
third atari punk/stepped modulates the pulse width of main apc
this goes through a low pass gate w/ switch for vca/band pass/low pass and
second row of sequencer modules its cutoff via a depth pot

psychotronic generator

YouTube via coloringpad. via coloringpad on the forum

"the psychotronic generator is a circuit bent atari punk console built by coloringpad housed in a case featuring the artwork of paul laffolely. amongst it's features are are the two main knobs, a cross mod, a battery sag, two led distortion knobs, and 3 photoresistors mounted inside of a pulsating light. The recording here does not do the sonic mayhem justice, and on top of everything, the entire atari punk side of the device is one side of a ring modulator, which allows any input to combine its sound with this machine. for more, visit coloringpad.blogspot.com"

dual atari punk console with cross mod

"two apc's with a cross mod switch (each modulates the other), one apc routed to the left, one to the right."

buddha machine bent by coloringpad

"a buddha machine circuit bent : additions include a switch to double playback speed, a knob to adjust the rate of playback, minor and major glitch inducing switches (sound like distortion here), and a selection button. easy and fun."

Arduino Punk Console - programmable 8 step tone sequencer

More info on the Arduino Punk Console here. via fotosis.

"This is my first build using an arduino microcontroller. I wanted to create a simple tone output device along the lines of the 555-based atari punk console, but using solely the mcu as the tone generator. Unfortunately, that was just too simple a task with a microcontroller to play with--it was done in about five minutes and my mind was already forging ahead with a bunch of stupid ideas."

Custom/Portable ANALOG NOISE Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction - video at the auction and below.

"This auction is for one custom analog synth and mini-amp made by foam_FORM. The "Trigguitar"
adds that sonic grit to taste and grinds it down, too. Features include:
- Atari Punk Console inside (capable of some extremely hardcore analog sounds) controlled by an Arduino Uno.
- 6 selectable LED's can be turned on to conrol the pitch based on their light frequencies and intensities
- 6 Photocells can also mod frequencies (most effective on higher pitches)
- Arpeggio programming is possible (screw off one of the side-plates on the instrument to access the Arduino's USB)
- Can be powered using a single 9V battery or with a choice of 2 different power adapters (slightly different tones).
-High-quality HAPP arcade pushuttons
-Includes a mini metal amp (9v battery powered!) with volume knob, 1/4" input jack, and sound/speaker/hole"

Trigguitar Analog _ one Published on Jun 20, 2013

"Here is an example of how you can use an Arduino (or ATMega-related product) to send CV signals to control an external synth. Here I am controlling an Atari Punk Console by sending a PWM (square-wave pulse using the preset "Blink" code) to a homemade digital-to-analog converter. The converter is made of 2 resistors in series which are connected to the positive pin of an eletrolytic capacitor and the Arduino "common" pin. The CV (where the speaker normally goes) is hooked up to common and the negative side of the capacitor. There you have it-- a cheap programmable CV converter!!!"
