LittleBits Explorations by Experimentalsynth.com

LittleBits + Koushion + Ableton

Published on Apr 22, 2015 experimentalsynth

Three videos by www.experimentalsynth.com

"Connecting LittleBits to the larger world of audio gear generated some surprisingly musical results. With an external sequencer like Koushion driving it, you have both hands free for knobs and switches. With some creative patching and a little extra gear, it was easy to make a highly synchronized music production environment.

Ableton provided the master MIDI clock for the Koushion step sequencer app (connected to the iMac by an iConnectMIDI2+). This gave a quick interactive composition user interface, and the trigger from the LittleBits MIDI Module was used to clock the Micro Sequencer Module controlling the Filter Module’s cutoff frequency.

The LittleBits system is the only audio source in this video. Its audio output was run into Ableton for effects processing. Since Ableton’s tempo-based effects were synced to the same clock as Koushion and the LittleBits Micro Sequencer, complex, yet cohesive sounds are easy to create, and sound great.

LittleBits + DSI Pro 2 :: CV Applications

Published on Apr 22, 2015

"The LittleBits CV Module’s Control Voltage input and output allows LittleBits systems to modulate and be modulated by a world of electronic music equipment. Everything from large modular synthesizers to new small analog synths, even some effects pedals are fair game.

In these examples a Dave Smith Instruments Pro 2 is used. The Pro 2 is a Control Voltage powerhouse, with four assignable CV ins and outs (8 total) making it the perfect test rig to push the LittleBits farther into modular synth territory."

LittleBits + Moog Voyager + CP-251 :: CV Applications

Published on Apr 22, 2015

"Combine a LittleBits Micro Sequencer, CV and Power module and you have a fun, low cost CV Step Sequencer. It can be used with LittleBits equipment, or can enhance other CV synth systems. Here are a few examples of the possibilities when used with a Moog voyager and CP-251 Control Voltage Processor."

ContinuuCon 2016 Announced

via Haken Audio

"Continuum Enthusiasts –

ContinuuCon will be June 9-11 in Asheville NC. Asheville is in a beautiful part of the USA, even more amazing than central Illinois where I live. (Here in Illinois we have both kinds of plants, corn *and* soybeans, so central Illinois is pretty cool too, but come here some other time.) If you are unfamiliar with Asheville, check out this short video showing Asheville time-lapsed dawn-to-dusk, and you may be inspired to join us:
http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/north-carolina/asheville-nc-video-time-lapse/

ContinuuCon is being organized by Asheville area Continuum owners, and is sponsored by the Bob Moog Foundation, MakeNoise, and ExperimentalSynth.com. I am really pleased they are doing it – I was not involved in organizing the event, but Ed Eagan and I will drive there to join everyone taking part.

ContinuuCon is not a sales event, and there will be no special announcements or sales hype at ContinuuCon. The idea of ContinuuCon is that we all come together, get to know each other, and learn from each other. I will give a talk/demonstration that will show you much of the process of building a Continuum (including a live demonstration of the Continuum-Playing Lego Robot I use for testing Continuums), and I will show some of the Continuum insides and how explain why the Continuum has all those expensive guts, and I will bring some historical artifacts. But that’s just my talk, there will be lots of other presentations, concerts, and sharing of playing techniques, sound design techniques, and ideas. You will see some new things people are working on, including Ed’s new Surface Shaper he is bringing from Canada, and Christophe’s Wireless Remote he is bringing from France. (Speaking of Christophe, be sure to ask about his experience with Vangelis.)

I am thrilled ContinuuCon is happening. It is all being organized by people that purchased a Continuum and have gotten to like it enough to organize the conference. I can’t express how thankful I am that the Continuum means so much to people.

Thanks,
Lippold

PS: The official website is www.ContinuuCon.com – check it out, then buy your tickets!

PPS: If you want to give a presentation or performance, I don’t know if times are still available, I am not an organizer of this event – but you can email continuucon@gmail.com … If you are one of those Famous Individuals but do not want to give a presentation or performance or talk, that’s fine too, just come lurk!

PPPS: A message from Sally Sparks (of Asheville NC): Don't forget to snag your tickets for ContinuuCon 2016 before the end of the month to ensure the lower rate!"

The Scanimate

Moog Little Phatty and the Scanimate

YouTube Uploaded by experimentalsynth on Feb 1, 2012

"The first attempt at controlling analog video animation with control voltage created by a Moog synthesizer. Learn more at www.scanimate.com and www.experimentalsynth.com"

"Scanimate is a 100% analog video animation system in use form the late 60s to early 80s. It was used on a number of popular films & TV shows including, Star Wars, Logan's Run, Sesame Street & NBC Sports. Only eight were built and they originally sold for around $1,000,000."

Looks like an ARP 2500 style slider matrix in there.

via www.scanimate.com where you'll find additional details.

"Dave Sieg gave a talk at NotaCon in Cleveland, OH April 14, 2011 about Scanimate. 'The history of digital computer animation is fairly well documented, but considering that the 8 Scanimate analog computers ruled the airwaves for almost a decade, there has been very little written or revealed about them." Tracing his machine's roots back as far as the whirlwind project and some of the early work by Ivan Sutherland, Sieg showed a variety of clips from his archives to explain how animation was produced back in the days when an animator had to be an analog circuit design engineer.'"

Sequencer Jam - Sequential Pro 3, Arturia MatrixBrute, Moog Voyager & MF-101 - ExperimentalSynth

Published on Feb 19, 2020 experimentalsynth

"Sequential Pro 3 is the MIDI master clock. MatrixBrute sequencer is synced to it. A Pro 3 oscillator is sent out its audio-rate CV post and filtered by the MF-101. An aux envelope CV is also sent to modulate the MF-101 filter cutoff. The Voyager's filter cutoff is also modulated by a clock-synced S&H LFO. All are processed by a Line 6 Echo Pro also synced to the master clock. Learn more at experimentalsynth.com"
