Electronic Perspectives: Vintage Electronic Musical Instruments by Tom Rhea - New Pics
You might remember Electronic Perspectives: Vintage Electronic Musical Instruments by Tom Rhea previosly posted here.
Heath Finnie wrote in to remind me of the book and I noticed a few new pics of the inner pages have gone up on the Electronic Perspectives website. I thought they deserved a new post. If you are not familiar with the book, here are some details:
"Forty-five years in the making, Electronic Perspectives: Vintage Electronic Musical Instruments contains all of Tom Rhea’s fifty-two influential columns that were first published in Keyboard magazine from 1977-1981. This 400-page tome greatly expands on the original content with updated information and hundreds of newly restored images. Electronic Perspectives: Vintage Electronic Musical Instruments includes two CDs of unearthed recordings; spanning multiple eras of electronic music. All in a gold foil-embossed hardcover book, housed in a deluxe slipcase."
Note Tom Rhea helped design the Crumar Spirit with Bob Moog and Jill Scott. He also penned a few classic synthesizer user manuals. You can find additional posts mentioning him here.
You can find the book on Electronic Perspectives here.

Two portable cabinets and a 184
via Heath Finnie's The Secret Life of Daytime
"This is a portion of the system as it will be. Truth be told, it already looks different as since the photo I changed the layout and added some modules that were not present in this photo. A fourth oscillator, Steiner filter, STG sea devils filter (EMS Synthi clone) and STG Post-Lawsuit filter ('clone' of the 4072 in the ARP 2600). The left cabinet is now pretty much comprised of nothing but oscillators and filters."

Bartesho - All Yamaha CS80 Album by Heath Finnie
"This is an album called `Bartesho'. I'm currently offering it for free here on my site for a limited time. It was improvised using nothing but a Yamaha CS-80 synthesizer and some reverb to add some "space" to the recording. I hope you enjoy it. The mp3's are encoded at 360kbs for better quality. It's fairly ambient but does have more experimental sections as well. The two tracks named parts one and two like this are my slight homage to Vangelis's "Beaubourg" which also features a CS-80 prominently.

Red MacBeth M5N

Some notes on the current albums:
"Two of my albums are now available on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, etc. These are made of of songs/fragments that were worked on over the last few years. So these are compilations, but of things that have never been for sale before. "Sounds From Beneath the Floorboards" is a full albums worth of louder and nosier songs, and the ep "Moments Before the Eclipse" is a mix of some louder and some more melodic songs. I'm putting together "The Leaves that are Brown" which is a compilation from the same period but will feature more mellow and even ambient recordings from the same time period. "
Synths used:
ARP Odyssey MK1
EML 101
EML 200
EML 400/401
EMS Synthi A
Korg MS-10
Korg MS-20
Moog Memorymoog Plus
Oberheim Matrix-12
Roland System 700
SCI Prophet 10

"In recording songs for an album I'm working on I recorded this little bit of noise last night. I'm sending it to you because its all Memorymoog Plus. It's not usually what people hear coming from a Memorymoog (strings, pads, leads, etc.)"

P.M.S Swan Up for Trade
via Heath Finnie on AH:
"PMS S.W.A.N. if anyone is interested in trading for an EMS Synthi AKS which would be great for me in processing audio and FX. I'm just trying to become more practical in my studio. Here is some more info on the S.W.A.N. It has two oscillators and a straight osc output on the back. Oscillators are variable waveform. It has a SSM 2040 IC filter with LP, BP and HP and self resonance and audio input. S&H, Ring Modulator, ADSR and AR with repeat. LFO with variable waveform. It also has probably the nicest square wave sound I've ever heard. Outputs are: OSC 1, OSC 2, KYB, GATE, LFO, ENV 1, High and low output. Inputs are: CV, Gate, Audio. It's in excellent condition and works fully. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is essentially a Syntar in a 'normal' keyboard. The only one ever built. It's great fun or me to have such a rare part of synth history, I just believe I would actually get more 'use' out of an AKS. Serial number is Prototype 1. I have some pictures of it up here [mirrored here]. Thanks, Heath"

Mia and The Bird - EML Track
"is about 8 minutes of a noise coming from an EML 101 and 200 combination. It's sort of a noisy drone."
