MacBeth Mk1/X-series Touch Keyboard Proto

MacBeth Mk1/X-series Touch Keyboard Proto from Ken MacBeth on Vimeo.

"This Sunday has been fun. I have thought about this idea a lot. I've played with various ideas on this for a few years. Last week- I got the parts in for the last thoughts I had on it- the great news is - it works! This is a purely analogue design and it opens the door for new touch controlled stuff! I'm using this 5 note test device to play my Mk1 Syetem- Barabus! I fully intend to have a fully functioning synth out of this guy- micromaccers watch out!

MACBETH X-SERIES MICROMAC

via Ken MacBeth on Facebook:

"...as well as the 5U stuff that I'm working on.....I play with the idea of designing some very small (42HP in 3U) midi driven analogue! Whay just have one oscillator and one envelope generator when you could have three oscs and two independant envelopes?!"

Update via Sean: "Over at Muff's, Ken announced that he's taking orders. He's only making 100 of them. The price is 995 GBP (1500 USD, or so) and it comes with 3 oscillators, 2 envelopes, vca, 24 db filter, noise, x-mod, and Kenton midi. If you're interested, e-mail Ken through his website."

"Here is another video of the MacBeth Elements Synthesizer...more spaced out meanderings! I will be doing what I call *standard* demos....but some people seem to like the off beat stuff that I'm doing...! All sounds on here- one machine! Available for purchase from Analogue Haven/Schneiders/Alex4/Awave....and direct! Release date June 2014"

MacBeth Elements SynthesizerVIDEO3

Published on Mar 24, 2014

"Here's a slightly more dramatic video- a face off between the Elements Synthesizer and the MacBeth MK1 Monster 5U Modular Synthesizer! The keyboard and modulation functions are driving the bottom row of the Mk1 Modular - that is (including the Elements synthesizer) 6 audio oscillators. The Elements Spring Reverberator is well active here too....! The row above on the Mk1 is another 3 Oscillators/Mixer/Filter/EGs etc and that is being driven in a percussive way froma Korg SQ-10 Voltage Controlled sequencer...watch out for one of my (own) x-series modules fly out of the rack I'm at as I bash away! I wasn't screwed in- and it made a soft landing! As mentioned in previous videos- the Elements Synthesizer is available for pre-order from Analogue Haven/Schneiders'/Alex4 and Awave! THings should be out in June!"

MacBeth MK1 Oscillator 'A'

via Ken MacBeth's Photos

Left: "Now that I have all the MacBeth Mk1 Modular Metalwork and PCBs in stock- I normally build each thing I'm working on as a final test before they go off to the assembly plant. This is the MacBeth Mk1 Oscillator 'A' that I built up yesterday..."

Right: "This is the rear view of the MacBeth Mk1 Oscillator 'A'.......this module, like the other that I am doing has a very flat profile- ideal for suitcase etc!
I included to jack sockets (minijacks) that feature on the tunable elements such as oscillators and filters. Instead of having to use multiples and multiple cables to send CV to each unit- I thought it would be neat to send CV from one module to another using minijack cables.....in the background so to speak!"

"Ken MacBeth plays two X-Series Dual Oscillator modules with two of the 'Backend' Filter combo module prototypes. Used here are a Korg Prophecy being utilsed as a controller keyboard with a Kenton Pro4- this is doing the octaving arpeggio. The main lead stuff is being played via the first X-Series Keyboard 1 prototype- this is a totally analogue keyboard assembly! Recorded on a Fostex FD-8, ART LTX processor and filmed on a Nikon D90 camera using a Nikkor 18~150 VR lens on manual...enjoy!"

Macbeth Studio Systems: X-Series Pair

flickr By Analogue Haven

"Here's another photo of the new Dual SV Filter, this time pictured with the X-Series Oscillator. These modules are not just smaller and more economical variants of the Dual Oscillator and Backend Filter, they have different features too. The Oscillator has a wide range osc sweep knob, a switch for LFO mode as well as suboscillator outputs. The Dual SV Filter has 2 x 12db octave multimode filters and you can use it in stereo."

NAMM: MICROMAC 1 TEST 2 + Korg SQ-10 Sequencer

YouTube Uploaded by macbethsynthesizers on Jan 14, 2012

"Here we see the MacBeth X-Series Micromac in action again. One reason to include 3 Oscillators in any synth (and give them separate CV inputs) is to have the ability to play them all seperately! Here I use a Korg SQ-10 Sequencer to drive Oscillators 2 + 3 and use the Mk1 Vortex Keyboard synth to drive Oscillator 1 as well as the sequence! I guess this is pretty unique amoungst the desktop synths! Amazing that this sound comes out a very small synthesizer...! Again- it has to be said- this project and this format began well over a year ago!"

MacBeth X-Series Photon

via Ken MacBeth on Facebook:

"I was very inspired by my recent NAMM experience! The micromac received a lot of positive attention and when I got back- I designed the sister synth- Photon! This is a Euro sized module of a mere 21HP- half the size of the micromac- sporting 2 Oscillators, Noise Fat 24 dB/Octave Filter 1 VCA and 1 dual purpose EG this thing rocks! Primarily- Photon is aimed at those who still yet can't afford the economical 3 Oscillator micromac! Priced midway- this delightful unit is in the £595.00GBP slot!"

Macbeth X-Series Dual Oscillator

YouTube via Bruce73X
"Demonstrating the Macbeth Dual Oscillator: Pure oscillator sound going through a Analogue Systems VCA (RS-180), a Mackie Mixer and directly into the audio card (M-Audio) of the computer. No FX, no EQing.

First pure waveform listening and wtaching (sin and saw) for nerds, than a little bit modulation (used the Sherman FB LFO for that) for weird nerds and at the end switching through the octaves with displaying the tune.

Ask me for high quality audio.

Have fun!"

Macbeth X-Series Dual Oscillator Eurorack Module SN AH0002

via this auction

"Massive. Beautiful. A truly robust analog oscillator with an incredible feature set. It sounds as high end as a VCO can sound. Will be missed.

Minor cosmetic flaws such as a rounded corner, slight screw marks (knurlies weren't in existence when I bought it) and a couple tiny marks on the top edge which don't show when racked (Macbeth modules fit VERY snug and solid.) Everything is in the pictures.

Functionally perfect. Will probably be ready for a slight tracking calibration/adjustment after shipping. It has been properly racked in a case for its entire life, and moved within that case only twice."

MacBeth Micromac-R X-Series Analog Eurorack Synth Module

"From MabBeth Studio Systems:

the idea started a while back when the first analogue destop synthesizers first made their appearance.

a while back, i too, was considering how much sound creation facility could be put into a very small area. historically- my designs have been integrated analogue synthesizers at which i have some expertise. more recently, i have worked on modular synthesizer too. my style is to offer a no comprimise, quality sound product employing whatever it takes to make that possible! i have worked on various ideas that employ the integrated aspect with the flexibility of a modular synth. the result now is my latest products, the micromac-r and the micromac-d.(series)

the micromac is a full scale integrated analogue synthesizer in a very compact space. there are two units to be made available. the micromac-r is aimed at the 3u eurorack modular synthesizer users and the micromac-d is aimed at those who wish to take a synthesizer into the live performance domain. the micromac-d is housed in a compact desktop unit coming with an extra two lfos and a sophisticated midi/glide/lfo control section- allowing the unit to be used in many situations where it may be the only analogue instrument in use.

the highest priority was to design a synthesizer that would have not one oscillator, or even two- but three voltage controlled oscillators. key was to have more than the standard sawtooth and square waveforms available- but also to employ triangle waveforms and sine waveforms. it was also also deemed very important that the oscillators would have their own voltage control inputs and separate audio outputs to integrate with other modular synthesizers. another very important audio component was the inclusion of a noise generator. any full-scale synthesizer must have dual envelope generators. the first eg is key to sweeping the filter- but a separate eg is also very important to shape the final output or voltage controlled amplifier section.
