Turnado Lemur Template

Published on Dec 3, 2013 mCKENIC·15 videos

"Quick video of a Lemur template I did for Turnado desktop. It performs almost like the Turnado iPad app now! Nothing special I know but its a LOT of fun to use.

4 - X/Y pads (with reset to zero on finger lift), a Wet/Dry mix and a Randomizer button.
You have to push the button twice because of whatever way I have it mapped in Ableton Live!"

via Dave O Mahony on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

iTunes: Lemur - Liine

The reset to zero on finger lift is interesting. Lemur costs a bit more than other editors for the iPad, but it's generally more powerful. It also had a history as the proprietary Jazz Mutant Lemur hardware controller prior to the iPad launching. There's a huge user community and custom templates for all sorts of things available for download.

Update:

Turnado iPad - Desktop preset
Published on Dec 4, 2013

"The same preset used on Turnado iPad and desktop with my Lemur template. Its not 100% as the scaling on the Lemur template is different but it is a joy to finally use my iPad templates on the desktop version!"

February Filter Sweep YouTube Protest & a Call to any YouTube / Google Employees

Youtube claimed copyright on a synth filter sweep video by ranzee

"I can't believe we are now getting copyright claims just for performing tests on synths! Yep - all I did was a filter sweep - and BAM! Copyright Claim police came on in and took my video away (partially) from the world. This is ludicrous!"

This one was sent my way via supporting member, Synth Addict.

For those not aware, YouTube has algorithms that scan audio in videos for copyright infringement. If something is found in violation, the video is automatically unpublished. The problem? Apparently certain filter sweeps are triggering take downs. This is becoming a problem for synth demos (per ranzee above, and previously mentioned here for example). I am curious what sample is being used for the comparison. Rush's Tom Sawyer? :) Actually, Synth Addict mentioned it being a Chemical Brothers track, which does sound familiar. Anyway, if anyone out there reading this has any connections, maybe you can reach out to someone that can fix this?

For the rest of us, not sure how the following will help, but if anything it will bring some attention to the problem amongst the synth community.

via Synth Addict:

"What users can do:

Post a video on YouTube of yourself demonstrating a filter sweep on a synth or synths of your choice and tag it #FFS

SFX-JII & Blofeld

Published on Jun 6, 2013 mCKENIC·9 videos

"The wonderful SFX-JII from Gugabox.com!
Getting to know her a little more - she plays VERY well with the Waldorf Blofeld. Next partner is my fave synth purchase from the last year - the brutal M-Audio Venom :-)

I nudged the SFX psu right before recording - so display was garbled but it kept on trucking. Of course I forgot to save my mapping as an SFX preset - doh!

DreDrum & Maths

Published on Oct 29, 2014 mCKENIC

"A quick & dirty demo of the Buranelectrix DreDrum & Makenoise Maths for my Wiggler friend plastilina/Gerardo.

Maths CH4 is set to cycle and the EOC (on CH4) out is going to Ch1's Trig in. The OR output is triggering the DreDrum and sweeping from Log to Lin on CH1 speeds up the triggers. I hope you can see the Maths set-up at the end of the video, the lighting makes everything a little blurry (sorry).

The DreDrum is a FANTASTIC module and capable of much more than I demonstrated here. I hope to pick-up a 2nd. If it had cv over the pots/osc switches and individual as well as mix outs... it would be to die for! As it is it is a brilliant 3 voice perc, noise, osc and at a bargain price!"

Harry Plotter @ Sines & Squares 2014

Published on Oct 27, 2014 mCKENIC

Modular plotter at Sines & Squares festival.

Update: "The device was a plotter of the kind used in manufacturing in The Netherlands, used I believe to monitor tolerances in industry etc. He had attached a pen as you see in the video and IIRC said the voltages had to be low (I think a couple of volts, certainly lower than 5v). He was using a Doepfer VCS to control the x and y axes. The speed also has to be low so no audio rate stuff. But he was more than happy to 'compose' a picture and he & Jim Frize spent a little time setting up an LFO to 'draw' etc. A very interesting and unassuming chap, he invited us all up to look and have a go. A wonderful addition to a great event!"

Update2: you can find Harry Plotter on Facebook here.

Gorf XL loop

Published on Aug 6, 2013 mCKENIC·12 videos

"Quick n dirty mess about with the GorF-XL eurorack sequencer module and the Doepfer A-111-5 'Dark Energy' module.

GorF-XL is playing back a simple 16 bar loop. It has Buss access so no patching needed to trigger the A-111-5! Messing around with the ADSR & Filter. Kick is being triggered by the ADSR, hence the strangeness.

The Doepfer was so loud it overloaded my cam input and compressed the drums too much - sorry :)"

1st Pot = LFO speed.
2nd Pot =Max delay time.
3rd Pot = Randomness.

I did nothing to edit the code - this is not my code please see the link below! Imna try optimize it for modular use eventually but it is fairly cool out of the gate!

From the Spin Semi website - user slacker posted the code. Thank You!!!

DM1 TT303 Arp Test

Published on Jul 5, 2013 mCKENIC·11 videos

"Test of the Arp function of the Bass Bot TT303.

You can see at the beginning Im using Slot 1, Bank (BB), Pattern 8 as the arp source. The arp plays pattern length, slide and accent based on the pattern selected and within the range of notes the user chooses.

Drums are a single loop from the iPad app DM1. iPad output is going in to the TT303 Mix-In socket so everything is in mono.

Lots of fun and you can see the wobbly TT303 pots a little towards the end. Still, love this little monster!"
