Linnstrument demo of a demo software off the shores of Aalto

Published on Aug 14, 2015 spunkytoofers

"Demoing a Demo copy of Madrona Labs Aalto. Also trying out the mpe beta- multidimensional polyphonic expression protocol, both of which Roger Linn Design Linnstrument and Madrona Labs Aalto adhere to. The watermark noise swells goes along with not being able to save the patch on the demo software. Just a few simple tweaks to a basic setup default patch in Aalto."

spunkytoofers cvu1 and hexinverter jupiter storm

Published on Oct 4, 2013 spunkytoofers·67 videos

"I've been working on a series of discrete modular systems/cases using a 4ms mini power supply system. Passing the rails via din-5 cables and any of the boxes able to be the main psu as a starter.

Originally was going to put the Jupiter Storm with a few other modules but was pretty surprised by the vast range of sounds with just a few cv sources.

The control interface box I was planning on making before was able to tightly integrate with the Jupiter Storm so I made the control box just a little bit different to acommadate the JS. The control box's main focus is track and hold voltages since I find that a very key feature to my modular experiments in general.

The box uses a selectable cv matrix interface via rotary controls with track/sample hold, pressure controls, touch rotary, external cv select in, IR sensor, LDRs, and a din-5 port for external controllers (the first made being an accelerometer on body strap-or any other one I decide to make later) The track/sample hold can use the colored buttons as triggers or use external triggers via colored switches at bottom. Built in attenuation."

circuit bent alesis nanosynth mycrologic by spunkytoofers

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Alesis nanosynth. replaced battery and inserted battery clip for user replacement. item is based on my color wheel patching system and is probally one of the most flexible, easiest, and intuitive way to circuit bend. alot of specialty parts (micro rotaries, hardware, sloped hammond enclosure multi function leds and specialty rotaries)

everything works perfectly and is in very clean condition. will come with power adapter and original user manual. since the patching is fairly intuitive instructions will be a basic email explaining the circuit bending features to the purchaser.

a few mild disclaimers as i like to be upfront: i have used this for about a year for personal use. also to make room for modifications the metal cover has been removed which exposes the circuit board as pictured. some common sense to not touch the exposed circuit board or allow metal objects to short onto circuit board. seller claims no responsibilities for damages. the unit will occasionally crash. i have noticed this only on certain patches only but this is due to the complex nature of the circuit bend as well as every possibility being exploited for circuit bending via the interface. this was intentionally designed to expose every bend but because of this it is unavoidable to escape the occasional power down power on to reset the instrument. it is not destructive in any way. it simply crashes or will freeze or make a loud white noise and stop playing. patch mapping bends is highly recommend for recalling settings rather than improvising bends for live performance purposes. since this is one of the crazier bends and the beast is tempermental the trade off is a good one in lieu of simpler circuit bend units with more predictablity/stability. this will be a extremely rare and exotic synthesizer and most likely a one of a kind from me personally and quite possibly a one of a kind in the world.. i have alot of circuit bends and to be honest i'm trying to simplify my gear/life etc so i have to let a few things go. also i have been circuit bending considerably less with only a few instruments made a year. i have less time to circuit bend so any output from me is going to be pretty rare in general as i am mostly only doing a few custom bends a year and this was simply a project made for myself.

the sound demos above [below] features the nanosynth simply triggered via keys and velocity. the 2nd demo is a collection of patches one after another played with keys and velocity. notice this is for the alesis qsr but which is very similiar to the nanosynth in almost everyway (except for os, a few wave forms and file structures)"

"these are rare keyboards. this one was sent in on commision. casio va-10 is a keyboard and a multi-effects processor which can effect sounds onboard or from external ins. an ambitious keyboard for the consumer market that didn't make it far for production.

this keyboard had alot of bends that were unstable so i just went for a simpler approach to effect the effects processor.. the kinds of control you can apply to the effects proccessor range from feedback depth, unique ring modulations, continously variable bit depth reduction, clocking the pitch shifters like a whammy, psychadelic panning effects, strange sounding chorus sounds, modulating pitch for sampling and delay playbacks, etc etc.. some of the multi effects onboard controls aren't very useful but when bent some in particular are very effective.

on this keyboard besides various ways to control the effects i've added an onboard sample looper that is sent from a seperate output from the main outputs on the keyboard.

in this demonstration the self oscillation from the delay feedback from the effects is used as it's own as an instrument.. there are various ways to EQ the delay feedback, vary it's modulation and depth, and it can be pitched just like an analog delay feedback..

that plug is a power cord 9V negative tip. the sound you hear is coming from the speakers on the instrument in this demonstration

it's a really great piece of casio gear.. when bent it probally is one of the more unique effects processors out there.. good luck if you ever find one.. this one has to be sent off unfortunately.."
