4 iPad's & laptop live jam @ Apple Store Berlin September 2015

Published on Sep 10, 2015 Oliver Greschke

Short clip but very cool to see. Exposure for our world at an Apple store. BTW, anyone looking forward to the iPad Pro? I started with the original iPad excited to use it as a controller and for virtual synths. It works well as a controller and I still use it to this day. It was a little underpowered for synths, especially newer ones. I picked up an iPad Mini Retina which works well for synths, but I'm missing a larger screen. I'm definitely tempted by the Pro, but man, the price...

Video description:
"Live jam from our talk we gave at Apple Store Berlin.
Featuring Elastic Drums, zMors Modular, Studiomux (Midimux&Audiomux), Touchable and Ableton Live on a Laptop.
Elastic Drums and zMors Modular were synced via Midimux to the Laptop, which was the tempo host. zMors Modular went directly into the laptop via Audiomux VST Plugin. 2 other iPads were controlling Ableton DAW and Ableton instruments with Touchable. All connections were made with standard lightning cables, no special soundcards or connectors have been used."

Requiem for the Unrequited [Live Hard Psy]

Published on Jul 17, 2015 Tim Webb

"I try not to get political in my music or blog. I will however say that this is a pro-necrophilia song. Now doesn't it seem silly that some people are worrying about gay people getting married, when we live in a world with a pro-necrophilia song?

This track features a voodoo drum pattern that I reworked into 4/4 and is played on Taiko drum samples, which are further supplemented with synthesized drum parts on the Analog RYTM. I'm really pleased with how they all came together!

Ieaskul F. Mobenthey Eurorack Modules From Ciat-Lonbarde's Peter Blasser

via Control

"Peter Blasser's - Ieaskul F. Mobenthey modules are now In-Stock. Couldn't be happier to have Peter's stuff in-stock, he's been pushing the limits of instrument design and the philosophy behind it for years with Ciat-Lonbarde and very much encompasses the ideals of what we find inspiring about synthesis, electronics and the makers who make them. Limited Qty available."

Details on each, captured for the MATRIXSYNTH archives, follow. You'll find a video of them previously posted here.

"Ieaskul F. Mobenthey - Denum

The Denum module is essentially a bounds/bounce oscillator. It has the “triangle core” circuitry used in many
oscillators, but it adds a correlated bounds modulation, according to the concept (see below). Here, bounds and
bounce are each given equal treatment, with separate linear and exponential controls and inputs. In addition,
this module has a fully featured bi-polar VCA with complimentary inputs, to get you quickly going sending
“bb-objets” out the left and right channels.

Denum is an 8HP Eurorack module that runs on +12 and -12 volts. Attach power connector positive to “+” and
negative to “-”. Failure to follow proper power polarity will result in instant destruction of unit.

Looking at the front panel of Denum, note that inputs are marked by copper fill. There are three main sections:
bounce, bounds, and the VCA. Bounce is above bounds to emphasize the numerator/denominator relationship
of the two. Each of the two has exactly the same inputs and knobs. The “basis” knob sets the base rate or
position for bounds. There is a linear control input, marked by a a caret. Linear modulation is an alternative
input for pre-enveloped audio, since it has no attenuverter. However, the exponential control input is tied to an
attenuverter, marked by a characteristic bow-tie. An attenuverter works like this: at noon the modulations are
nulled out, they have no effect; clockwise from there they increase in intensity, with positive input meaning
“more”; to the counter-clockwise direction, modulations increase as well, but with negative input meaning
“more”. This knob is essential to controlling how much, and in which direction, your modulations apply.
Between the bounds and bounce areas, there is a range switch. When in middle position, Denum runs at a
standard audio rate. Pointing downward is a low audio rate, and pointing upwards is a definite CV, lowest rate.

The triangle output speaks the position of the waveform in voltage, and square expresses the frequency in terms of
negative and positive 10 volts. The triangle output is bussed into the left and right audio inputs of the VCA,
at bottom. Either can be swapped out for external audio energies, via the “left, right signal inserts”. The “left,
right VCA inputs” are for controlling the amplitude of the signals, with either a linear or exponential mapping. If the
left input is greater than right, sound goes out the “left out”. If right is greater than left, sound goes out the
“right out”. The voltage amount of difference maps to loudness in these channels. The “linear, expo switch”
chooses linear when cocked up, as marked by a caret, and exponential when cocked down, as marked by a
rounded form. There is an optional mute when the switch is in the middle.

Sliver for iPad Now Available

iTunes: Sliver - Alex Matheu

Videos posted here and here.

"Sliver is a powerful tool for soundscape and sonic texture creation.

Working beautifully with any audio content... melodic, rhythmic, noise, or otherwise, Sliver is well suited for a broad range of project types including:

Soundscapes
Ambient
Drone
Glitch
Noise
Pads
Sound Design / Sound Effects
Unique Sonic Textures
Cinematic Sound Elements

Creating a playable instrument from any sound.

The core of Sliver is the 4 real-time resizable clips (slivers) that can be moved around the waveform. Each sliver has it’s own channel with independent volume, pan, filter, and sliver size. These controls can be set in motion with Sliver's automation engine. Sliver uses a real-time automation system to movement in your textures. This system also allows for override to be able to shape the ongoing captured performance. The filters and size windows are controlled by XY pads, giving Sliver a natural playability, creating a new type of instrument.

Touching along the waveform places, moves, and sizes the slivers, allowing you to intuitively scrub the waveform with a variable loop size.

A chain of effects assigned to XY Control pads allows you to shape and mangle the sounds produced by the slivers.

You can Automate every control.

Sliver uses Apples UIKit Dynamics to create physics on the XY Pads, allowing customized settings for the controls to shape the sound randomly with physics.

Sliver supports Audiobus, sitting in an input slot.
You can import samples via AudioShare import or Audiocopy.
You can resample, record your own samples via the Mic, or do both at once.

This app uses Background Audio and Records from the Mic. You will see a red bar when placing the app in the background.

Sliver supports MIDI learn and is fully controllable from Virtual, Network, and MIDI hardware.

Make some noises, mangle some sounds, create your own soundscape.

Emmanuel Top - Acid Phase (live version with Elektron Analog Four, Virus TI, Ableton)

Published on Jul 9, 2013

"JUST FOR FUN I created a remix of Emmanuel Top´s all time rave classic "Acid Phase". I used no samples from the original. Instead I programmed a (slightly different from the original) 303 pattern on the Elektron Analog Four. The hookline is made with a sample from the "X-Static Goldmine" CD which has been used A LOT in the early 90s by the techno producers. It features basically ALL classic rave samples that we know from the early techno days. For further fun I added the Virus TI later.
Everything has been sequenced and launched live in Ableton with TouchAble and Mackie Control."

"Let me introduce you one of the best innovative iPad/iPhone apps, which brings a totally new concept of a touch-less, audio-visual application that literally make music in the air and visual effects at the same time. The audio control of generating sound can be compared to the theremin. The trick is that you need not to move or touch your device.

The application uses a combination of the magnetic sensor, great graphic possibilities, and marvelous sound which are offered by iPad/iPhone and iOS. The magnetic sensor is placed just around the biohazard sign on the app's view, so closer you get with a magnetic stuff the higher tones are generating. By included keyboard you can determinate in which musical scale will magnetic fields play sounds.

The sounds are very suitable for music like funky, dub step, electro, trip hop, noise, and many more.

So just grab some magnetic, metaled stuff or get closer to them by upper-right corner of your device and try out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eslyZi7TSNI

Use:
– unique musical instrument
– the most impressive metal detector ever
– practical tool to teach/learn how physics or music works
– magician's tool, to make illusion of a magical hand

Features:
– uses 3D space around magnetic sensor to make sounds and animations, touch-less control
- up to 5 octaves available (depends how strong magnet is)
– change speed or variation of particle animation sequences
– change particle size of animation sequences
– variety of 5 synth instruments simulating sound of organ, human voice, clarinet, flute and
saxophone
– tune color or vibrato of the generating tone
– change sound volume
– set your own musical scale by the virtual keyboard to be played
– save your settings
– play along with your music library or on the background while playing another touchable or shakeable instrument (more feasible for dual-core devices)
- designed for iPad2, but iPhone version included

iPod devices does not have possibility to detect magnetic fields so you cannot use them as the musical instrument (only basic tone is generating)."
