benjolin percussive rolls -- response to a question

Published on Aug 9, 2013 Epoch Modular·14 videos

"Regarding the percussive rolls, these are very easy to get. Basically, that's the Rungler in loop mode, with the rate on the oscillators (particularly B) going at a faster rate. The rungler output can be used as a clock also, and this comes in hand when the rates on the oscillators are up higher, because while both the pulse outs and the rungler run at -5/+5, peak to peak, because of the length and of the rungler Step patterns the positive edge comes at a much slow rate than that of the pulse outputs. In this way the rungler can be used to obtain percussive roll type effects from the benjolin outputs as well as with other modules.

With regard to clocking the rolls, it depends on what you mean, you can control where they drop initially, by using a precision clocked module such as the 4MS RCD or SCD modules, but you can't always control exactly where the rolling effect will end, this is because depending on the settings of the module, the loop function may also excite the rungler after the loop is complete. This being said, as long as you are using a precision cv to clock the hold pattern you can maintain a substantive amount of control over the behavior of the rungler as well as the other outputs. In addition, if you run precision triggers, gates or envelopes into the oscillator CVs and the filter cutoff this creates even more control over the chaotic functions of the benjolin. This is demonstrated in my video "in response to a question" where the trigger and gate out puts of the 4MS modules are being used as CVs for both oscillators and the filter, and later in the video to hold the rungler pattern as well. Keep in mind also that the chaotic behavior of the benjolin can be greatly limited (even eliminated) by using the Rungler attenuator knobs on the right of the panel. When you turn these all the way CCW, this breaks the interfence pattern that animates the aleatoric patterns that the core circuitry produces."

Windsor Hum Instrument for Ableton Live

Published on Aug 9, 2013 AfroDjMac·146 videos

"The Windsor Hum is a mysterious and creepy low frequency sound heard in the Canadian city of Windsor, outside of Detroit. No one knows what is making the sound but it can be heard clear as the day is long! I sampled it and made an Ableton Live Instrument Rack with it, download it for free!

Arturia MINIBRUTE E - Fractal Arpeggio featuring Electribe EMX

Published on Aug 9, 2013 VJ FRANZ K·613 videos

"Arpeggiating the arpeggiator ( ! ) creates a note sequence of increasing complexity. I'm using the arp on Synth Part 1 of the EMX and sending that via MIDI to the MiniBrute, where I'm also adjusting parameters on it's built-in arp."

Malekko Richter Megawave 1st Riff 2013

Published on Aug 9, 2013 djangosfire·116 videos

"My first actual "patch" jamming with the new Malekko - Richter "Megawave" wavetable/waveshaper module.

I patched a Saw waveform from the "Oscillator II" into the Megawave wave shaper input. Then an "Envelator" provided a clock (for the sequencer) and nice transient patched into the Megawave CV wave select.

Output of the Megawave patched into a "Dual Borg" VCF/LPG then finally into an Echophon Delay. Also, there is a free running Tri LFO from an "Anti-Oscillator" - patched into the CV cutoff of the Dual Borg.

4 notes pounded into the ground - meanwhile knob tweaking timbre exploration."

"***first exposure to Malekko Richter Megawave***

so far i like this thing a lot. so many uses and so_many_waveforms.. secret acid is in this thing and all kinds of pretty sparkle.

module info at

http://malekkoheavyindustry.com/produ...

the patch is pretty simple - trigger riot clocking RENE feeding bubble sound VCOb which provides saw tooth input for the Megawave. Envelope is a Malekko Wiard Envelator, VCA is intellijel Linix.

*** there is not filter used in this demo. figured it'd be better for people just to hear the sound of the module.. which is really f-ing nice.

*** important to read the info at the link above.

some of the ROMs/Banks scan smoothly and others do not. it's all part of the design. details are at the link above. Also, if you hear the clicks now and then it's the rough interpolation of waveforms in some of the banks and/or the poor choice of modulator on my part.

more demos will come... perhaps just some soundcloud uploads though as the video stuff is not my thing.. obviously."

info here:

probably hard to tell but some of the waveform banks do weird stuff to the transients of the drums. very cool . sounds equally as awesome on oscillators or synths or whatever else you wan to put through it."

Tribute to Mr. George Duke, by Danielle

Published on Aug 9, 2013 TheSynthFreq·200 videos

TheSynthFreq will be performing at this year's Knobcon.

"Upon hearing the very sad news of Mr. George Duke's passing, I wanted to offer a short tribute song I composed just for him. This composition is of a "jazz style" (which is a rare style for me to play in, please pardon any incorrect structures). I used a simple fret-less bass/electric piano split mode on the Yamaha Motif-6. The jazz drum pattern is 'performance' pattern that is running in the background. The bass and the ep are improvised.
I am very inspired by Mr. Duke for his amazing talent and wonderful music he has given the world. May you rest in peace. :)

:) Danielle"
